I think the problem is that some of the people who have been moderated in the past have returned and are up to their old tricks of calling people names apparently not having learned their lesson the first (or fourth) time around.

I mean seriously, what is someone supposed to do when making factual posts and here comes Mr Troll calling that person a stupid gash?

This was an insult?

Yes. I've gotten notes from mods for a whole lot less.

Maybe we miscommunicated did you mean calling him a stupid gash was the insult or pointing it out was if the former we are in total agreement.

two of the most offensive people I have talked too

Put them on Hide?

one the other either went away on his own or was "encouraged" by the mods.

Since that post was about me.... that comment didnt bother me in the least. I have been around long enough to take insults and keep on going.

Not picking on you here Taz, just wanted to catch the stupid gash quote and a response.
See, when someone does this, the next post should address the content, then say something like, "Hey dude, we don't do the name calling and personal attacks here. We leave them out and stick to the subject."
As should the next post, and maybe the next.
That's what I mean by self policing.

Not a personal rebuttal. Not playing into the feeding frenzy/trolling/emotional knee-jerk reactionism, just a assertion from the group that we don't play that way in this here sandbox.
It really shouldn't be that difficult. There's a limited number of posters on each subject who tend to get reactionary. The remainder, even while sometimes saying incredibly inane crap or being uber nitpicky re verbiage, syntax et al...(By which I mean, almost all of us [8D]) or just flat out wrong (Defined as not agreeing with me [8D][8D]), tend to stay within the lines as dictated by TOS. Convince these folks to lessen the personal crap and things would change quickly.
Of course, that's kinda like asking lunatics to act sane, so it's undoubtedly a dubious concept.
Funny thing though-I run on a bunch of forums cross the net on a variety of topics. Most have no moderation, or at least things have to be catastrophically toxic for someone to be barred, but to a site, the posters behave with far more decorum than I see here, most especially when compared to P&R.
Cripes-P&R makes the yahoo comments section seem like a lake of tranquility.

tazzygirl -> RE: Zimmerman Threads -- Quite Complaining to the Mods (7/5/2013 1:12:06 PM)

Sort of like putting the inmates in charge of the insane asylum. lol

I could have addressed the "gash" comment... I didnt. I can be hell on wheels on threads.. some say "overly aggressive". Then I get people like that one who feels name calling should be a part of every day discussion. On another thread, he called women who are pro-choice "rabid, yet flippant feminazi baby killer". I reported that one and was told that because he didnt direct it towards one specific poster, it was fine.

I have developed the habit of really not reporting all that much anymore.

Him calling her a stupid gash was an insult and was certainly meant to be one.

No argument., I misunderstood your initial statement.

FR

This won't win me many friends, but I plan to continue reporting posts as I see fit.

A poster who attacks another or who injects hijacking BS into a thread degrades the experience for the rest of us. That makes threads irksome to read and, I strongly suspect, has played a role in the exodus of a lot of our smart, informed, thoughtful posters.

cloudboy -> RE: Zimmerman Threads -- Quite Complaining to the Mods (7/5/2013 1:37:31 PM)

If the Mods lock all the Zimmerman threads the only recourse is to start another one. People care a lot, and there is a lot of action.

Whining to the mods about another poster calling you names on a Zimmerman thread --- deserves the passing out of diaper like Kirata suggested.

And has seen an exodus of many of the problem posters. It only crops up every now and then as "old" posters return.

that was MEEE! hehehe someone said I called M a kid when I had actually quoted the person I replied to and didn't use quotation marks to show it was a quote even though it was a WORD FOR WORD quote

GUILTY!!!!!!
heheh

Actually, it wasnt you. I know that upsets you greatly.

It was about setting up sides, pointing fingers at a select group and saying "These are the elite of this group, they never do wrong!"

So, of course I will take exception and I quickly pointed out the fallacy of that position.

You dont have a problem with being put on a pedestal in an attempt to shut down other voices?

I would.

We do seem to have had a number of folks return from the deep end lately.

It may be nostalgia, but political/religious conversations here seemed quite a bit smarter and more interesting when I first started hanging out on CM.

tazzygirl -> RE: Zimmerman Threads -- Quite Complaining to the Mods (7/5/2013 1:48:37 PM)

I agree, its what drew me here, the intelligence level. I have learned a lot from these threads over the years. I have also seen that politics, for some, come with blinders, and an inherent need to shut down voices that do not agree with those positions.

Good luck with that.

Im thinking that is also against TOS.
