Oh, yeah. As per the TheBox story. DON'T bend necks back on an angle, it will crimp the veins going into the brain.
They're may be still arguing about the stroke risk, they're not arguing about how a stroke will fuck up your brain FOREVER.

Seriously?

I so wouldn't have pegged you for a freak kalikshama. You always seems like such a normal woman. [:D]

Any other favorites in the same genre you'd want to share? I'm always on the hunt for new material.

I'm not sure I'm understanding your comment.

Are you saying that a hogtie with the head bend backwards towards the feet is risky? If so, if you have any medical articles and literature on that, would you mind posting them? I'd never heard that before, and it seems to be rather standard practice with the help of nose clamps.

SexyThoughts -> RE: Extremely long term sensory deprivation (7/13/2013 2:43:25 PM)

It's called "beauty-parlor syndrome", though they're also eyeballing neck twisting chiropractors.

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/releases/7628.php
"According to experts, when you push a person's head back into a sink his/her neck over-extends. According to neurologists Dr. David Bateman, Cumberland, UK, the neck can be stretched so that it kinks for a long time - as in hair-washing at a salon - the arteries get stretched and can tear if you are unlucky. As the bleeding between layers of tissue continues you can get clots building up, this eventually leads to a stroke."

http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(05)63607-0/fulltext
"Beauty parlour shampooing is generally safe but it may be hazardous for certain people. An individual's threshold for ischaemic symptoms depends on several factors, including speed and duration of movements, intactness of collateral blood flow, extent of atherosclerosis, and presence of congenital hypoplasia or intimal arterial defects"

http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/stroke/detail_stroke.htm#229841105
"Neck injury, when associated with spontaneous tearing of the vertebral or carotid arteries caused by sudden and severe extension of the neck, neck rotation, or pressure on the artery, is a contributing cause of stroke, especially in young adults. This type of stroke is often called "beauty-parlor syndrome," which refers to the practice of extending the neck backwards over a sink for hair-washing in beauty parlors. Neck calisthenics, "bottoms-up" drinking, and improperly performed chiropractic manipulation of the neck can also put strain on the vertebral and carotid arteries, possibly leading to ischemic stroke."

They're debating the fuck out of it, since it's a risk, but they're still figuring out how big a risk
http://www.nhs.uk/news/2012/06june/Pages/debate-on-spinal-manipulation-neck-click-stroke-risk.aspx

The kink world often plays harder and longer than hairdressers, so if there's a risk for vanilla's, the kink risk is proportionally higher

Age is a factor, a 20year skinny kink.com model with bendy artery's, can hold poses that a 30year old weekend amateur with harder artery's due to age, cholesterol, weight, age, probably shouldn't.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertebrobasilar_insufficiency
"Signs and Symptoms

Vertigo, the sensation of spinning even whilst a person is still, is the most recognizable and quite often the sole symptom of decreased blood flow in the vertebrobasilar distribution.[citation needed] The vertigo due to VBI rarely is brought on by head turning, which could occlude the ipsilateral vertebral artery and result in decreased blood flow to the brain if the contralateral artery is occluded. When the vertigo is accompanied by double vision (diplopia), graying of vision, and blurred vision, patients often go to the ophthalmologist. If the VBI progresses, there may be weakness of the quadriceps and, to the patient, this is felt as a buckling of the knees. The patient may suddenly become weak at the knee and crumple (often referred to as a “drop attack”). Such a fall can lead to significant head and orthopedic injury, especially in the elderly.

Thanks a lot for that.

I had never heard of it being an issue, learned something new again.

SexyThoughts -> RE: Extremely long term sensory deprivation (7/13/2013 6:25:03 PM)

It's symptomatic of the biggest problem with long term play. That's things the body can handle for a short time, it can't handle for a long time.

10 minutes in cock ring is sexy.
10hours in the same ring and your dick drops off.

ARIES83 -> RE: Extremely long term sensory deprivation (7/13/2013 6:43:11 PM)

Yer bending necks back constricts everything more...

Source: I've been choked by people who know what they are doing.[:D]

This is an example of why I start small and debreef my subs after play. I don't want to fuck up. And who knows what could cause a teainwreck. Also. Kink folks tend to want to go bigger. So starting kinda small and safe allows for going bigger while still not getting extreame. = gives you more room to grow.

Yeah, nah. Some things do not scale.

Anything involving the ABC fundamentals of living , Airway, Breathing and Circulation, tends to work past the point of no return. So stepping forward, step by bigger step, will walk you off a cliff

You really want to figure the risks before you take the path.

Tight ties share a lot of characteristics with tourniquets , the risks of which are peer reviewed.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_tourniquet#Risks
palsy,
myonecrosis,
pain,
clot,
fasciotomy,
acute renal failure,
rigor,
absess,
blisters,
abrasions,
contusions,
and pinching.

So read up on what not to do with tourniquets and then don't do that with rope, cuffs, shackles, etc. [:D]

Ishtar. It would be cool if you talked about your hood in detail on the gear and apparel section. I for one would love to hear more about it and some pics would rock.

I wouldn't really know what to post about.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to start a thread and ask them.

As far as pictures, go, if you're meaning 'pictures of me in the hood' instead of 'pictures of the types of hoods I use' fat chance at the moment. [:D]

My husband is banned from taking pictures of me until I hit somewhere close to my target physique, and I'm no longer utterly repulsed by seeing myself in pictures.

Lol. I'll start a thread tonight or tomorrow. As for pics. You need not model if your not ready. (tho I suspect if you did you'd have half the forum drooling. I was (I know it's a rare moment that I'm not pervy) thinking of the hood set on a table and filled out with stuffing of some type. So we could see its shape and fit. I've got a ton of questions. to start. You talk about hood creating white noise due to your head rustling within. I'm thinking that's brilliant. Also you meantioned using ear plugs. My very limited exp with hoods really intrigued me. I've had a couple on me but never used on another. Can we get some input from your hubby (Master). Would love to hear about working the outside while also getting some info from inside.

SwitchNSpanky -> RE: Extremely long term sensory deprivation (7/17/2013 3:39:43 PM)

Also. You said the hood plus ear plugs prevented you from hearing cattle prod charging (oh-I bought one. Gonna try on myself tonight. Have not unveiled to wife yet. Love the idea. Greatful you showed me the way!). Would love a discriprion from both sides (yours and his) as to how it plays out. It seems super awesome.
