jola37 -> How long does it take you to recover from a beating? (7/9/2013 5:02:06 PM)

Hi, just wondering how long it take's people to get over a flogging/whipping/caning?

I have loved the look of single tail whips for many a year and recently was lucky enough to experience one for the first time. Lucky if you like that sort of thing I guess! 10 days on and the marks have all but disappeared but still feel a bit striped underneath if that makes sense. I'd like to go back for more in the future but was wondering how long is a safe enough time for the body to completely recover. I was guessing about a month but have no idea really. I couldn't go back now, that's for sure as I still feel 'beaten'.

I'd love to hear other people's experiences on this area

Honestly, it depends on the instrument used, duration of the session, and the intensity of the blows. I typically use paddles, and rarely leave marks, so the person getting paddled doesn't ache for more than a day. Obviously, that is a pretty tame example.

If the skin on your body isn't broken, I'd recommend taking a bath with Epsom salt in the water to soothe the welts.

I'm a big fan of single tails. These days, sadly, I'm very hard to mark and the effects don't last more than a day or two but that's after a couple o' three decades of pretty consistent, often edgy stuff. A few years ago, we attempted to lower my tolerance by engaging in fluffy, bunny stuff for several months but within a few sessions, my Kevlar coating kicked right back in. :( Enjoy this time while you have it! Tolerance builds up fast.

Depends on how masochistic you...are.
When in that mode...I would crave it, and jump back in after a day...ahh to *fly*
tsk tsk

this is something I didn't know about. I couldn't imagine getting a tolerance to a single tail, does it get to the point where it has to be used so firmly, it would actually cut the skin?

littleclip -> RE: How long does it take you to recover from a beating? (7/9/2013 5:43:22 PM)

it depends on what you mean by recover for me i dont stay in space very long but the beatings help me be focused and grounded. otherwise i would be ready nearly every weekend. the bruises are dependednt on the person as some bruise eaisly and others dont and take more to get a mark

TieMeInKnottss -> RE: How long does it take you to recover from a beating? (7/9/2013 5:52:21 PM)

I think there are many factors that go into this... I have olive skin-can spend hours in the sun without burning, not sensitive to chemicals, does not bruise or breakout easily...My skin recovers pretty quickly. It also depends on the amount of force and the technique of the top. Generally, sensitivity lasts only a day at most, any red marks usually fade in a couple hours...bruises couple days maybe... Start slow, know how your skin handles "trauma", make sure the top knows how to alternate & massage to prevent the blood pooling,..

Not for me. I'm still the giant wuss that I was 10 years ago. I can't take pain at all, and I certainly can't process it to pleasure.

I bruise incredibly easy, but usually it wont take more than a day or two for the bruises to subside. I rarely feel them either, because they're not deep enough. I've tried for a long time to build up my tolerance to pain, and it's never worked for me, so now I only play with Tops who are focussed on the reaction, instead of the action and the marks.

I actually enjoy playing beyond my own limits, but at the same time, I usually long reach that point before anything is serious enough to cut skin. Hell, pushing it that far I wouldn't be surprised if I'd end up fainting. [:)]

If you're lucky. [;)] I have a pic somewhere around here of my behind after 300 with a single tail and you can barely tell it's marked. I must admit, I felt that one for more than a few days afterwards every time I sat down. It was a double pleasure, too, because after the 300 with the single tail, Himself used Selena's oil on me.. for the extra kick. I crashed hard from that one, too. Took several hours before I was back to my normal self.

It's not so much that I built up a tolerance to single tails per se ( - I have leather butt from, literally, years of having weapons of ass destruction used upon it - ) .. it's just one of the few things that can kick my endorphins up almost instantly.

I'm very much into stingy (as opposed to thumpy which is nice for a massage but doesn't do much on a pain scale for me at all) and single tails fall nicely into that category. Knives, needles <--no question my hands down favorite .. stuff like that which bring the stingy. The subspace, for me, comes only through pain and when the pain stops, so does subspace then the chemicals take their dive and what happens, happens. Sometimes it's tears and sobs, sometimes it's hysterical laughter.. often it's both.

I continue to love the ride and, of course, I have more body parts than just an awesome ass. [:D]

thanks to everyone for your words of experience and wisdom here :-)

It is something I'd like reasonably regularly, maybe like 6 times a year or something but I don't want to put my health in danger.

Great time frame there. Himself and I are always mixing things up so that no one body part is getting too much undue attention and not enough time to heal in between play times. Rotation of toys pretty much assures us of avoiding routine and you just can't do the same things with a flogger that you can with vaginal piercings and weights.. it's all good somewhere!

Whether you get laughter or tears or both, I hope you get what you deserve and that what you deserve is also what you desire. [;)]

littlewonder -> RE: How long does it take you to recover from a beating? (7/9/2013 7:23:22 PM)

It depends on the beating.

One where there has been a lot of emotion involved....a very, very long time and probably has changed me permanently in some way.

Physical play, depends on if it was all fun and games and light, which only takes a few hours or a day or two, or if it was a heavy, sadistic scene...then it can take me weeks to a month to heal.

Master likes to bite me hard when we're just sitting around watching tv or whatever. Those bruises usually take about two weeks to heal but I have some that are still there from months ago, albeit very faint, but you can still notice them a bit.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: How long does it take you to recover from a beating? (7/9/2013 9:30:07 PM)

I've never used a single tail, but even in our heaviest scene I almost never bruise and marks heal frustratingly fast. Mind you, my 'heavy' scene isn't in the same chapter of the book as LW's heavy scene, so who knows?

jola37 -> RE: How long does it take you to recover from a beating? (7/10/2013 4:05:26 AM)

I don't know what possessed me AthenaSurrenders but at then end, I was asked if I had learnt my lesson, to which I replied something I shouldn't have, earning another 10 strokes. I think now had I kept my mouth shut, then I wouldn't be feeling it quite so much now lol. Lesson learnt there!

I guess it all depend on the hardness of the beating then. I have seen a few whipping videos online, some really classy ones too. From what I can gauge, I think on a scale of 1-10, mine was around 7. But I am new to this so I understand I may harden up a bit. Thanks for all the posts from everyone :-)

The "I hope you get what you deserve..." line needs to be added to you sig. It's very cool.

DesFIP -> RE: How long does it take you to recovery from a beating? (7/10/2013 10:24:45 AM)

Just realize that a 7 for you might be a 12 for me or a 3 for bita. We're all different.

I have no pain tolerance, thankfully he's focused much more on bondage and control. What pain I do like is thuddy. Unfortunately he finds he gets a better response (in his view) by giving sting which I jump and yelp from. He finds that funny.

But if you only do it a few times a year, you won't build up much tolerance.

LittleGirlHeart -> RE: How long does it take you to recovery from a beating? (7/10/2013 10:42:57 AM)

I don't play hard enough to bruise or leave marks or anything So I am recovered in hours.

ha...these days we don't really play hard unless you count hard bites all over and him liking to pinch me really hard. Even those leave huge bruises on me these days. Hell, most of the time I have no idea how I got my bruises. Right now I have a bunch of bruises all up and down my right leg. I have no clue where they came from but those bruises will be there for a good two weeks probably since they are deep in color. The darker the bruises, the longer I take to heal.

Ahh sorry. To clarify, I meant 7 / 10 going on the after pics of them and me. Some of the beatings I saw and once wondered if I could take were actually milder than what I had, in terms of marking.

For pain threshold, I totally see your point too. It's all a bit new still for me so I hope you forgive my daft questions :)
