Well, I will give my opinion. I really don't give a rat's ass what they do to journalists in China. There is nothing to stop a journalist from exiting china before filing a story, and despite what many people feel, there is no gods-given right of a journalist to write/say whatever they want. We give them that right here in the west, but the important part of that phrase is the first 3 words. The Chinese are just trying to avoid having embarassing stories filed, and in their typically pragmatic way, have found a way to go for a foreign currency grab at the same time. Again, not unexpected. The change in China's attitude in recent decades has blinded many people to the fact that the PRC is still a repressive police state wherein the people have absolutely no rights. The Gvt of the PRC can still do whatever it wants with its people, they can still call in the tanks like they did at Tienanmin not so very long ago.
