In the trial that George is in for a little while more, the prosecution at the last moment tried to sneak in a charge of "Child Abuse" this morning. It was in an oh by the way email to the Defense this morning. Of course, the Judge tossed it out.

Do you think the prosecution are slime balls for doing this?

mnottertail -> RE: Is the prosecution a bunch of slimeballs? (7/11/2013 10:49:31 AM)

Prosecutors prosecute.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Is the prosecution a bunch of slimeballs? (7/11/2013 10:52:42 AM)

They're lawyers. WTF did you expect?

tazzygirl -> RE: Is the prosecution a bunch of slimeballs? (7/11/2013 10:59:04 AM)

Nope. They have a job, just like defense attorneys have a job. I expect both to pull out every attempt to do their job. Wouldnt you?

Desperation [:-]

But would it not be nice if for once the system was used for justice and not how to win at all costs.

That is not the system we have in this country.

vincentML -> RE: Is the prosecution a bunch of slimeballs? (7/11/2013 11:28:53 AM)

It is an adversarial system by design or precedent. So, winning is an integral part of it. Are other systems, those who seek "justice," really superior?

I personally feel the defense trying to slip in their biased animation as evidence was pretty slimey.. I feel the lawyer selfie pic with derogatory references to a witness as stupid is pretty dam slimey.. (I would bet his kids are gonna grow up to be slimey lawyers just like dad).. and there are lots of other examples of defense lawyer slimeyness..

but you felt you just had to set up a poll to knock only the prosecutors, huh?.. [8|]

kdsub -> RE: Is the prosecution a bunch of slimeballs? (7/11/2013 11:39:42 AM)

What other systems?

I believe our system of justice has become a circus like a reality show. We need to take cameras out of the court room... teach judges how to control their courts...start holding prosecutors and defense lawyers in contempt over their grandstanding.

Stop releasing evidence before a jury is even selected to try and bias their opinions and make it a criminal offense for those that do. Keep the names of the accused from becoming public until after a conviction as well.

Give me a few minutes I could come up with some more... for so reason I am in a radical mood today...slap me!!!

True... but their rulings are subject to scrutiny and a Judge with a bunch of over turned convictions on their resume dont look good.

The defense is paid (and takes an oath) to be zealous... the prosecutors aren't supposed to.

Since prosecutors are often elected career politicians, why would we expect them to be any more effective, honest, or useful than say, Congress?

And BTW, the President didn't say 'would be like Trayvon'. In specific reference to the misleading picture of 12 year old Martin in the headlines at the time, and in the context of the age of his own daughters, the President said if he had a boy child he would *look* like that picture in the headlines

What bit of thin air did this bit of dumbfuckery exist in before it wafted into here?

Subtlycaptivated -> RE: Is the prosecution a bunch of slimeballs? (7/11/2013 2:47:04 PM)

As an undergrad majoring in law, I was curious about the statement that the prosecutors are not held to the same ethical standards that defense attorneys are. I was under the, possibly misguided, impression that the prosecutor would have to zealously prosecute, as he or she is representative of the people of the state in which he or she is prosecuting. Thereby making his client the people, which would mean that he would have the same ethical responsibility, no?

I mean, that is just my understanding of what is ethically required.

Further, while I have yet to actually see the trial, it is my understanding that there was no way Zimmerman was going to get a "fair" trial in either direction because of reported familial political connections. After all, wasn't there a to do about his even being picked up because of his grandfather?

And, if the judge has a long record of over turned convictions, why isn't there something being done by the state judiciary committee? Wouldn't they be the ones to look at her and say that she is mishandling her judiciary power?

Like I said, I am an undergrad, and I haven't been keeping up with the trial, so I am kind of flying blind based off what little reading I have done, these comments, and of course facebook CNN reports.

I will say that the one thing that did interest me was the release of Trayvon's tox screen. At what point did having weed in the blood become cause for public execution with out charge, trial or conviction? And even then.
