All these pages and yet no one has asked:

How long will the jury deliberate? When do you think they reach a verdict?

Well, from what I understand about how juries work, the longer they take, the less likely Z is going to be convicted. Mind you, it's not a lead-pipe cinch he's going to walk, but if they haven't decided the issue in less than a hour means there are serious problems on either side of the dock. Or they just want to avail themselves of all the free stuff they get. Who knows? They do things differently in Florida.

Juries are rarely out for only an hour. And the stats are that time out has no bearing on guilty versus not guilty verdicts.

Bets on a verdict of manslaughter, folks? That's my feeling.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least with that one.

I would bet on it. My feeling is that it will be a compromise verdict. None of the jurors are likely comfortable with the idea of letting him walk so manslaughter becomes the obvious solution.

vincentML -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/13/2013 3:46:33 PM)

Zimmerman's life will suck in any event, guilty or acquitted. He will be a target in jail or out. His lawyer O'Mara said there are a lot of crazies out there who know what he looks like and who are anonymous to him. He will not be able to get a job or travel in public. Maybe back to Peru or wherever. Better out than in jail but he will have to go into hiding for sure.

MasterCaneman -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/13/2013 4:04:08 PM)

Oh for sure. He's done either way. If he's convicted, his life expectancy will be measured in days after the initial orientation period. If he walks, unless he leaves North American proper, some street punk will want to have him as a notch, no doubt.

kdsub -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/13/2013 4:10:44 PM)

Our voyeuristic society makes it hard to get justice in America in my view. How many falsely accused have had their lives destroyed by the public circus of our court system?

True justice needs to be open to the public to assure fairness but leaking evidence and plastering the picture of the accused and aggrieved all over the media is wrong for obvious reasons.

~FR~

And of course, all of Zimmerman's woes hereon out will be attributed to the jury, or else to Florida, certainly to Tayvon, to a rabid bloodsucking PC populace, to porcupine mating season, etc.,

His troubles arising from anything and everything but his own actions.

Yachtie -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/13/2013 4:22:34 PM)

FR-

In an unrelated case, though having definite racial tones and worthy of a moment of humor amidst the Zimmerman feud ... a banker got what he deserved.

As if the nation didn't have enough racial tension on the line with the Zimmerman trial about to leave many people on either side of the gaping racial/social/political divide very angry any minute, now the bankers are involved. And not just any bankers, but apparently ones from that universally lauded incubator of central planners, Goldman Sachs.

According to the Post, "a drunken man was punched out and sent to a hospital in serious condition last night after he yelled racial epithets at a couple quietly eating at a West Village burrito shop, cops and witnesses said.

A woman who spoke with the man before he was knocked out said he was upset over his wife leaving him and about his job at Goldman Sachs. But why would he be upset: has the market not been manipulated high enough to guarantee every banker in the US record high bonuses yet? "I felt so bad," she said. "He could hardly walk." By all appearances, the Dow will have to hit 20,000 before Goldman bankers are no longer upset about their 7+ figure bonuses...

In the meantime, and as so often happens, the man who punched out the banker was promptly arrested:

Martin, according to his GF instigated the confrontation.

Nobody thinks her testimony is worth a shit about anything else, so why is she seen as a credible witness on that one?

If convicted, he'll be kept in solitary until let out on supersedeas bond until the inevitable appellate reversal.

The only people that think her testimony isn't worth a shit are the same people that think everything Zimmerman said is gospel, even when the things he said conflict with each other.

MasterCaneman -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/13/2013 4:38:01 PM)

I never said the man was guiltless. He made some stupid decisions that night, no doubt. But what's happening here is totally out of proportion to what goes on every day in our inner cities. You've got your knickers in a twist over poor innocent Trayvon, shot down by the bad, bad white man.

Where's the angst for Kelwynn Jones? Or Raymond Carmichael? Oh wait, that's right. They were shot and killed by other blacks. That's okay then, right? Go ahead, Google them, and start spouting off about how unjust their deaths were. The fact of the matter is, this whole circus was politically motivated as soon as the facts started coming out. If Obama hadn't said anything, this would be relegated to the local section of the paper.

I doubt you and all the other chest-beaters honestly give two wet shits about the kid-hell, I bet if you saw him strolling down your street, what are the chances you'd check your doors? This case has become a celebrity in its own right for the White Liberal Apologist movement, and frankly, I wish it was over with. But it attracts eyeballs to the tube and the Net, so it's allowed to stagger on. How much money do you think all the "news organizations" have made off of this? Now how much do you think the kid's mom is going to get?

I don't like to hear about anyone that age dying for any reason. I don't care all that much about whose skin color was what. Two guys both did dumb things one night. One's dead, and the other is essentially fucked for the rest of his life no matter what the verdict. Rich white men have made lots and lots of money over this, and will continue to do so for some time. That's the point about this whole Chinese Fire Drill no one seems to be seeing.

And how long do you think they'll be able to pay for that security team (should he be acquitted)? I know a couple of bodyguards who won't touch a job unless it's $60 an hour or better. That is, if he doesn't OD on Cheetos...[8D]

If acquitted he will be fine... the hero of his neighbors who appreciate what he was trying to do for them. He may also be a hero to the Hispanic community which is numerous and powerful in the state. Certainly the darling of the gun toting crowd in Florida.

BTW one more time a couple of very minor injuries does not justify shooting anyone.

BTW one more time a fear of greater injury does justify deadly force.
You do not have to wait until you are dead or crippled to defend your self.

No. Fear of greater injury does not make it. It has to be a reasonable fear of imminent great bodily harm and that clearly did not exist. That's why Zimmerman made up the lie about Martin trying to take his gun.

So you admit that actual injuries are not relevant.

Of course they're relevant. they prove that Zimmerman did not have an imminent fear of death or great bodily harm from Martin's physical assault. That is why he had to make up the lie about Martin going for his gun.

Get back to me when one of your personalities wins this argument.

Almost none. I know teen kids, now. In general there's plenty that's irritating and even annoying about them, but very little that's actually frightening. What can I say? One side will always call that my PC attitude rather than my real experience, as I know it and feel it.
