There isnt more... its just not polite to discuss it in the South in public.

Not only does she and I disagree with you but so did MLK

I grew up with the south too.... deep backwoods south... what was said in private was never uttered in public among different races... after the 70's.

I believe the only reason the Feds are going to push a civil-rights case is to assuage the black community. Nothing more, nothing less, and irregardless of whether or not there really is a case. Like just about everything else about this, it's all smoke and mirrors to placate a population. While I am no fan of Obama, in this case I think he's made the correct call in pushing this. If a civil-rights case is found lacking by a black AG directed to do so by a black President, it will go far in keeping the chance of riots down.

Except that it sets the expectations for the next time and the next time and the time after that.

Obama pushing for ANything is a terrible precedent. It nationalizes what should be a local incident, and it says that we don't trust the people we elected / hired to do the peoples business. Just like the case with the cop and the boston professor obama jumped on the wrong side.

~FR~

This unmoderated thread has shown to me that I am glad other discussions are moderated. It has also shown that those on both sides of an issue use the same tactics and hypocrisy. I hope this experiment by Alpha does not become the norm.

BamaD -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/15/2013 9:14:28 AM)

I grew up in the Midwest, didn't move here till early 80s and it was worse there
but each persons experiences are different
Do not forget it was Detroit not a southern city where all school busses were burned to avoid integration and it was Boston as well as Little Rock that shut down their systems to avoid integration.

Something else no one can answer for me... anywhere... how did Z's nose swelling go down so fast?

Di Maio testified that was a sure sign it was broken, that setting the broken nose will often cause the swelling to go down quickly.Do Miao further stated that a nose unbroken would have remained swollen for days.

I'm not saying it's true.Just relating what the testimony was.

From CNN livefeed:
"Di Maio says he believes Zimmerman's nose was broken and that either Zimmerman or someone on scene could have popped it back into place. Di Maio says that if it was just swelling on Zimmerman's, it shouldn't have gone down in only four hours."

She was black, and in the south longer that me,  so I thought she should know.

tazzygirl -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/15/2013 9:18:13 AM)

It was down between the scene and the police station... it reduces swelling in a few short hours? And who would have set it at the crime scene?

The Talk is something that this black father has been having with his now 24 year old son, since he was born. It's sad that we have to have The Talk but it could potentially be tragic not to have it. Situations like the Trayvon Martin trial and the upcoming trial for Jordan Davis are real life examples I show my son, of how the fears of some white people can be placed on him and cost him his life.

You make it sound as if that talk is a bad, unreasaonable thing. I give that talk to my children -who are lily white and do exactly the same myself as the actor.
For crying out loud - cops are shot at, verbally assaulted all the time. In Florida they approach from behind, with a flash light - there are very few things more dangerous than a nighttime solo traffic stop for a cop (except domestic dispute cases).

So damn straight I make it easy for the cop. I turn the car off, put the keys on the seat. Keep my hands where he can see them, and explain what I'm going to do before I do it. I'm going to reach into the glove box for my registration officer... I answer no sir, yes sir. These people have guns and arrest powers.

I heard what was said in private in many homes. Its amazing what I was privy too at that time. People tend to think a child doesnt listen.

Thats my problem. I highly doubt paramedics would have reset his nose, the liability would be too great. Could he have reset it himself? Maybe... it would be extremely painful. And it would have been noted.

I agree, it does set a terrible precedent, but he's playing to a power base, if not for himself but for the pols who he's supporting. Ultimately, everything about this case reeks of politics and how to control populations. It's just another case of not letting a good crisis go to waste.

More importantly,it compromises what is supposed to be an unbiased independent legal system. One which exists not only to protect us from each other, but perhaps more importantly,to protect us the citizens from the government.
Undercutting that damages the very nature of democracy.
It's incredibly dangerous.

Actually,I can speak with some authority here. I've broken my nose like 12 times.Broken noses hurt more before you set them.Once set,the pain and swelling start to diminish pretty speedily. They ain't hard to set either, just push it back into place, something that can be done intentionally or accidentally, just poking away at the injury.Di Maio testified that it's simple enough that the paramedics may have done it inadvertently or that Z himself could have w/o being aware of what he had done.

Basically,it's one real hard sharp jab of pain that goes under the eyes, then you can breath again, the pain subsides a bit,and slowly the eyes stop watering...

It doesn't matter as long as it gets more votes in the (D) column anywhere. Which is somewhat ironic to me.

We don't know. Would travon have assaulted a black man? We don't know.
Would Zimmerman have followed a white kid - we don't know. It was black kids that were breaking into apartments. If a white skinhead was roaming around maybe he would have.

Injecting race into this without evidence is corrosive.

My dad was a cop and you'd better be sure we got that talk, and I treat a traffic stop the same way you do.

If Zimmerman had been black we wouldn't have known about it, wouldn't have been "newsworthy".

Another one of the many lies fomented by the StormFront crowd. In Virginia a magistrate is the same as a justice of the peace elsewhere... zero judicial authority, and even less than zero in another state.

Zs daddio was some judge or something like that.

For people screaming justice for tm- the jury has spoken. Get rid of the DA who could have made charges that would have stuck.

There were no charges that would have stuck. Are you saying you wanted the DA to plant evidence or something?
