OP: There's no need to be rude right out of the gate, so unless the response you quoted was in answer to your own rudeness...yeah, count your lucky stars she showed her true colors right up front.
I'd like to give one reason for the age "discrimination" from my own experience: women generally live longer than men. My Owner was 11 years older than I am, and I had some reservations about that because I didn't want to end up in the situation I now find myself in: he's gone and I'm alone. I decided that he was worth the risk, and he gave me the best years of my life. But, yeah, it's a valid reason for not being interested in someone so much older than you.
