Obsession and kink are not specifically linked. Neither is kink and trauma. The problem, in My opinion, with a lot of folks who are interested in kink, is that they turn it into their own personal obsession and compulsion. In effect, they allow it to become an addiction for them. It allows them to take over their time that they spend in thinking about it each day and the following compulsion erodes their better judgement. Once that happens, the cycle continues to grow. The side effects of such generally make a person exactly what another *doesn't* want in a partner. No different than somebody who is addicted to drugs, gambling, or any other thing. Of course, this comes from somebody who plays fairly frequently. However, I also have had periods where I didn't play at all. During which, I didn't sit and pine away for *not* engaging in such activities or relationships. I've had times that I didn't play tennis for six months, either. When I play tennis again, sure. It's fun. I didn't spend the prior six months dwelling on the fact that I didn't have a racquet in My hand or didn't have a doubles partner.
