Yes it is. Most people don't realize that the padding on the dog's paws are in reality tender and when the asphalt is hot, it can burn their paws.

Keep them in a yard or indoors.

This is an image of what can happen to a dogs feet on hot pavement. They do make "shoes" for dogs to protect their feet, but they are very expensive. You must also remember that pavement and concrete lose their heat slowly.

Bought a set last winter when my brother brought his boxer when he came up for a visit. They cost less than $20.

Oh, that poor animal. The only thing about the shoes for the dogs is the look on their faces when they have them on.

From $15 to $40. But the expensive ones are awesome looking.

I actually saw a piece on CNN the other day about doctors in Las Vegas who were warning parents about kids going barefoot on pavement. It has been so hot that it only takes a couple of minutes to burn the feet.

I take my dog to the woods when it is this hot. The trails are much cooler and walking on the packed dirt is cooler

I should have taken a picture of the boxer with a coat on and its little winter boots. She looked truly unhappy.

The things we do to our loving animals to keep them healthy and happy...

They really hate the boots though.

They're not that expensive. I have bought some for my daughter's cat (he's a big, fat cat and could wear small dog booties) and they were less than $10. These days you can find them made of all kinds of materials anywhere from a couple dollars to expensive. check out Petco.

It pisses me off when I see people on bikes with their poor dogs trailing behind them oh the hot street being pulled along on a leash. I had one woman tell me once that dogs feet were tough and didn't burn and that it is natural for them to walk or run on hot surfaces. I pointed out that dogs are probably smart enough to seek out grass or dirt and keep road travel to a minimum. Dogs are smart. There owners, not so much.

~FR~

I go barefoot a lot (and for whatever reason, even if in the middle of summer this seems to evermore freak people out upon seeing it).

But anyway concrete reflects more than it retains heat, and it is noticeably less hot than black pavement, which absorbs a lot of heat because it reflects only a small portion of radiation, and releases heat only slowly.

i may get her some booties, but it's usually not a concern since she has a huge yard to wander should she wish to wander.

Your dog need to go for walks and it won't hurt you to spend an hour or so walking with your dog.

I love walking barefoot. It's one of the big things I miss now that I live in Baltimore. There's no way you can do so here. I used to walk barefoot all the time, no matter how hot or cold the pavement is. I found that my feet would eventually get used to it, build up a thicker skin after a week or so.

I am barefoot all the time , but as thick and callloused as my heels are my toes an the balls of my feet hate the hot pavement. just a few minutes on the pavement at 2:30 to test how hot the road and driveway was, had my feet stinging for hours.
