If fired into the air you can't know were it will land, when fired into the ground it can bounce.
In either case it is aimed away from the other person.

A bouncing bullet is aimed away from the other person? As far as the air, what goes up must come down.

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Bullet-Fired-in-the-Air-Strikes-Chesterfield-Boy-214371901.html

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/ohio-freak-death-man-fires-gun-air-bullet-travels-mile-kills-15-year-old-amish-girl-article-1.994626

Bullets fired into the air maintain their lethal capability when they eventually fall back down.

In the case of a bullet fired at a precisely vertical angle (something extremely difficult for a human being to duplicate), the bullet would tumble, lose its spin, and fall at a much slower speed due to terminal velocity and is therefore rendered less than lethal on impact. However, if a bullet is fired upward at a non-vertical angle (a far more probable possibility), it will maintain its spin and will reach a high enough speed to be lethal on impact. Because of this potentiality, firing a gun into the air is illegal in most states, and even in the states that it is legal, it is not recommended by the police. Also the MythBusters were able to identify two people who had been injured by falling bullets, one of them fatally injured. To date, this is the only myth to receive all three ratings at the same time.

An illegal act isnt made legal simply because the shooter believes no one will be in danger.

The gun the gun come on that should be obvious.

Employment

Gonna have to have another idea - cause that aint gonna happen in the next 5 years. Besides, significant minorities wont take a job. Ever work at a welfare office - its hair raising.

The unemployment rate for the black communities have always been the highest. Why are they still in welfare offices after 5 years? Not all of them are there for "lazy aid". There are some there for true disabilities. Welfare doesnt just help those who are able to work, but wont.

BamaD -> RE: Stand your ground in Missouri OH NO!!! (7/28/2013 10:08:34 PM)

I want a person who has gone to incredible lengths to justify a clear cut illegal killing simply because the guy had a gun to acknowledge that this is clearly 2nd degree murder and prove he isn't just defending the guy with a gun again.

I want someone seems to think that gun owner = murderous scum to show me one case of self defense he agrees with to prove that he has something approaching an open mind.

Again your characterization of me is wrong stupid and insulting.
Since when did manslaughter become a legal killing.
The floaters story is flawed to say the least.

That it is the gun that is aimed away from the other person, don't give me any garbage about shooting at their feet it is still not aimed at the person.
And what is the big deal I am in agreement that warning shots should be fired unless there is more than one attacker (for the slow ones, not you ) that means the 2nd one gets a warning.

Its still illegal to do so. With good reason.

There is no reason to fire a warning shot. I am of the belief, as many experts are, that a shot should only be fired with intent to do damage, not intent to instill fear. Scaring someone only makes the situation worse.

I thought Zimmerman was innocent the jury agreed
I thought Scott was innocent the jury agreed
I thought Rodriquez was guilty the jury agreed the jury agreed
seems like I am doing ok

You don't have to convince me, I have know this for 40 years.

tazzygirl -> RE: Stand your ground in Missouri OH NO!!! (7/28/2013 10:50:34 PM)

Him shooting at their feet is a sign of aggression. If the tables had been turned and he had been killed, no one would convict.

If they were only there so the cousin could relieve himself which he had done when Crocker first came down why were they shouting that they wouldn't leave when they could have done so when he went back to his car.
The guy is nearly 60 and doesn't look to be well off I doubt he made the trip fast.
Manslaughter could be life for him.

Have to say bama, you've published a lot more facts than were available in early reports.

If its public access, why should they?

He left to go to his car, his life certainly was not in danger.

He didnt call the police because he said they would get away.

He agreed that leaving would have taken care of the problem.

According to a probable cause statement filed by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, detectives asked Crocker if he could have called law enforcement when the group refused to leave.

To which Crocker replied, “I guess I could have, but it’s my property and I was going to protect it.”

Crocker stated several times in the interview he was going to protect his property and if he would have left (to call police) the people would have been gone before law enforcement arrived, according to detectives.

Detectives then asked him even if the people had left, wouldn’t have that been the desired result.

Crocker’s reply according to the report was, “Yeah that would have worked too.”

.........

"I just shot the one closest to me," Crocker said, according to police.

Dart was shot from about three feet away.

And I still cant find the article about how the deceased was swinging at the gun.

Mostly I have read more closely
But I don't believe we are close to the whole story. When we do I may move over to murder or some others may move to manslaughter I find it hard to see how Crocker can be cleared.
Most damning, in my view is that Crocker went back to his car before the shooting that will be really hard to explain.

Lets see they were only there from the pit stop till they found out it ticked off the landowner then decided to rub it in his face that he couldn't do anything about it.
Or they were lying.
They had been drinking so I suspect the former.
Most of the mouth on their side seems to have come from the stepson so I suspect he just couldn't resist sticking it to Crocker.
Still think Crocker screwed up and should go to jail.
Manslaughter could easily be life for him.
And your post confirms that Crocker would have been happy if they had just gone away.
If you don't think a defense lawyer will drive that home ........

chatterbox24 -> RE: Stand your ground in Missouri OH NO!!! (7/29/2013 2:48:29 AM)

If they refused to leave the guy should have pulled out a cell phone not a gun, and called the police. Floaters usually have a designated place they turn in their tubes at the end, the police could have got them for public intox and possibly trespassing too. If they had been vandalizing his land in some way, I might feel different about the whole thing. I doubt it though, carving a tree or gathering flowers still doesn't merit the aggression. Most times its best to keep your gun in your pants, among other things......LOL.

I'd correct this with: "Crocker is a sociopath and if he has no moral issue to kill someone just because is annoying, he is a danger for society and so he should go to jail"

So 1973 is the same as 'the 1960s' in your world?

quote:

ORIGINAL: tazzygirl

Alec was "founded" in 1973. It began as the "Conservative Caucus of State Legislators". and, according to its founder, Mark Rhoads, it was a direct result of the feeling of powerlessness among the conservative party from the political climate of the 60's and early 70's.
