tazzygirl -> RE: Stand your ground in Missouri OH NO!!! (7/29/2013 8:28:46 AM)

Any idea when the last Jom Crow law was taken off the books?

Any idea when the last public school was desegregated in the south?

Do you know when it was that the SC upheld desegregation busing to end the practice of segregation in the schools?

Do you know about the Loving vs Virginia SC case?

Are you really going to try and insist that "1960's" ended all of it?

Alexander v. Holmes County Board of Education 1969
Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenberg Board of Education 1971
Wright v. Council of the City of Emporia; United States v. Scotland Neck City Board of Education 1972
Norwood v. Harrison 1973
Keyes v. Denver School District No. 1 1973
Milliken v. Bradley 1974
Bob Jones University v. U.S.; Goldboro Christian Schools v. U.S. 1982

There was a long standing cultural integration of discrimination in this country that 50 years hasnt gotten rid of... and you are attempting to insist that events in the 60's didnt shape the actions of some conservative's in the 70's?

You

ALEC didn't even exist in the 1960s, when states started moving away from the Jim Crow era 'must retreat' chattel (slave) laws, and the move toward the right of *all* people to self defense (influenced by Wechlser ) began.

Me

Alec was "founded" in 1973. It began as the "Conservative Caucus of State Legislators". and, according to its founder, Mark Rhoads, it was a direct result of the feeling of powerlessness among the conservative party from the political climate of the 60's and early 70's.

You

So 1973 is the same as 'the 1960s' in your world?

Yes, 1973 was the same. Trying to insist that a few laws made a world of difference in 8 years is laughable at best.

Now you are desperately lying about what I posted. Let's get this straight right now, since you want to drag your racist spew into this thread after being exposed in the unmoderated one.

Your posts... your words... own them.

The ludicrous and racist meme being spread here, that ALEC of all groups, came along and helped black people arm and defend themselves is pure bullshit that needs to be exposed every time it comes up.

Excuse me... where did I say ALEC helped arm "black men"?

Powergamz1 -> RE: Stand your ground in Missouri OH NO!!! (7/29/2013 9:07:38 AM)

Here's the part you were careful to edit out... the post from someone else that I was replying to, where that assertion was made (as you are well aware):
quote:

Also I note you fail to even attempt to respond to the overwhelming facts that prove the ALEC and the NRA are behind CCW and SYG laws.

ALEC came along at the time Strom switched sides... do you honestly believe he would have supported a group that was "arming black men"? Heaven forbid Jesse Helms be part of such a group!

Almost immediately, the impact of this interaction was evident: In 1981, ALEC published and distributed 10,000 copies of Reagan and the States, detailing methods for decentralizing government from the federal to the state level. In 1982, ALEC began developing its first health care initiatives. In 1983, ALEC responded to the Reagan Administration’s landmark study, A Nation at Risk, with a two-part report on Education which laid the blame for the nation’s educational decline squarely where it belonged-on centralization, declining values, and an increasingly liberal social agenda that had pervaded schools since the 1960s-and which offered such “radical” ideas as a voucher system, merit pay for teachers and higher academic and behavioral standards for students as possible solutions to the problems.

The 60's bugged the hell out of these men.... in more ways than one. If you are under the belief they this fear mongering and angry group of men didnt seek to arm the white population, you are sadly mistaken.

mnottertail -> RE: Stand your ground in Missouri OH NO!!! (7/29/2013 9:21:34 AM)

And wasnt the first SYG law passed in 2005 in FL?

Powergamz1 -> RE: Stand your ground in Missouri OH NO!!! (7/29/2013 9:32:30 AM)

Since you weren't there to see it first hand, and you refuse to learn about it now, let me school you. The white men were already armed. Got it? They didn't need SYG, they had the birthright.

The chattel 'must retreat', and the 'may issue' laws benefited the KKK.

Later 'Retreat to the wall laws' were remnants that persisted as the black population increased in Northern cities.
The more recent trend to allow citizens of all colors and social status to defend themselves (culminating in the 14th amendment cases of Heller and McDonald), is bitterly assailed because of a fear of black men and brown men with guns, in more cases than people will admit.

Others can decide what side they are on, equal rights including self defense for all, or not. To quote Paul Robeson, I've made my choice.

SYG wasnt even in play until 2005. Apparently you need to go back to school.

Duh.. Thats pretty much textbook material for anyone in school. Are you now insisting that the KKK was comprised of blacks?

ALEC is a conservative based group, brought about because of the changes in the 60's, of which Civil Rights was a major aspect, along with the dismantling of segregation. Strom Thurmond switched parties because of the CVA.

The white men were already armed.

Yep.. for hunting... not for killing off other people.

Powergamz1 -> RE: Stand your ground in Missouri OH NO!!! (7/29/2013 9:45:27 AM)

Again, you weren't there. The KKK only killed deer and rabbits? You've gone off the edge now.

I'd suggest that you try to educate yourself on what really happened in the old South, like Rosewood, but you've refused before.

Keep your fantasies, I won't waste anymore time on your smirking revisionist history.

I believe the KKK lynched, burned, and or whipped to death more people than they shot to death.

eulero83 -> RE: Stand your ground in Missouri OH NO!!! (7/29/2013 9:52:21 AM)

so your point is that SYG laws are good because lunatics of any ethnicity can feel authorized to kill everyone whose presence bother them, not like in the 50's when it was privilege of caucasian nuts.

No, the KKK killed off black people, and anyone who dared to support a black person against the KKK. But they didnt often waste their precious bullets to do so. Fear was part of their make up.

You are placing yourself up at the resident specialist on racism... lol... which I find hilarious as hell. Considering you cant read the content within a post for shit then attempt to pack pedal and change your views mid-stream.

And you can try all you wish to dismiss me, but you continue to lose argument after argument. You arent as smart as you think you are. Eventually you trip up in your rush of assumptions.

Its rather comical to watch.

Your extreme exaggeration is amusing. SYG only says you're not obligated to retreat if facing a deadly assault or serious bodily harm, nothing more, nothing less. They were passed, mainly because of anti gun overzealous prosecutors prosecuting gun owners that hadn't ought to have been prosecuted. Lawyers will use any excuse to get their clients off. Sometimes murderers get away with it like OJ or Casey Anthony. I don't believe for one second that those who have used SYG to get away with murder wouldn't have used some other excuse to get away with it had SYG not been a factor. I would also think a good lawyer factors into it as well.

http://www.tampabay.com/stand-your-ground-law        Here is a list from the local newspaper where I live about the real history of "Stand Your Ground" laws here in Florida. This law has already been abused by too many of the wrong people.

Of course the law has been abused. It is meant to be abused.

To no greater extent than any other law.
What is your opinion of the Roderick Scott case?

Scott is a murderer who should not have gotten off because he sought the confrontation. He could have simply called the police and been safe n his home.

I want a person who has gone to incredible lengths to justify a clear cut illegal killing simply because the guy had a gun to acknowledge that this is clearly 2nd degree murder and prove he isn't just defending the guy with a gun again.

I want someone seems to think that gun owner = murderous scum to show me one case of self defense he agrees with to prove that he has something approaching an open mind.

Again your characterization of me is wrong stupid and insulting.
Since when did manslaughter become a legal killing.
The floaters story is flawed to say the least.

A self defense case where the defender did not seek the confrontation is actual self defense. Some jackass with a gun out looking for trouble forfeits that right IMO.

The floaters were legally on the public way, the one guy who wasn't had retreated when told to. The murderer then went and got a deadly weapon and went back down to the river. He then fired at one of the group. That is all the law is concerned with. After that point the floaters had every right to defend themselves and every action he took besides retreating was criminal.

The only reason to see it differently is to defend the scum because he had the gun.

You and I will disagree on this. It was his property being robbed. He had the right, legally and morally.

They had already left his property when he got his gun and went out to confront them. He was wrong. His life would not have been in danger if he had not went looking for trouble which by his own statement he expected (he said he drew his weapon and chambered a round before confronting the men).

Seems to me it was kind of dumb verbally confronting the kid who was on some one else's property to begin with. I wouldn't want to explain why I had to shoot someone and especially take a chance on being prosecuted unless I absolutely had to though if more of these little pricks started getting shot during commission of their crimes it might put a dent in property theft. I certainly might have yelled at them from my porch or door, or stayed on the phone with the 911 operator as to inform them of the progression of the crime or their location as best I could.
