Nice to hear bud. I'm getting close to attending my first one as well, the closest one is unfortunately over 1.5 hours away, but, I was introduced to a pleasant lady from the area who knows the local scene pretty well so we'll see how it goes.

My experiences with munches is that they suck. A bunch of very nice but socially dysfunctional people eating a lot of food and tipping poorly.

I wonder how the munch experience would be if they were sometimes held at a higher end establishment with a dress code and people were required to pay for a set menu including tip. It would weed out some people who had issues with hygiene (a problem I've seen and heard about at munches) and make a more positive experience. You can also rent a private room.

The San Diego social is held at a nice restaurant : http://www.94thaerosquadron.signonsandiego.com/. While I may not also like every single person that shows up, it also means that people don't show up in shorts and t shirts.

The LA Social when it was still going was held at the Sportsmen's Lodge by the pool and during the summer months would hit upwards of 200 people. It was a blast. http://www.sportsmenslodge.com/

They definitely have a different vibe than the ones held at TGI Fridays or Coco's.

One the things about the socials, it gives me a chance to socialize without having to watch what I say or call Himself.

I wasn't in a hurry to attend a munch. Not very comfortable meeting folks for the first time.
However, everyone was welcoming and friendly.
Through the munch, I now go to small spank parties and a kinksters dining out group (restaurants in the area, enjoying different cuisines).

Congrats! I still haven't worked up the wherewithal to go to one myself all alone!

I offer this up every time I see someone say this.

I took a while to work up my "wherewithal" to attend one also. Before-hand I had visions of some wierd place where a bunch of weird and mostly unbalanced people got together to do things I'd rather not know about. Reality was... uh... we went to a burger joint and chatted a bit about some pretty basic stuff with a bunch of people who looked like they belonged in a burger joint.

In short, learn my from idiocy :)
