So my shoe broke half into at work the other night. My fav pair of course! Anyway, got new shoes yesterday and my feet are killin me! Ladies, y'all know how you gotta break shoes in?

Ok, sorry for the random thought. Lol

littlewonder -> RE: Random (7/27/2013 8:27:28 PM)

Ugh. While I love shoes, I have to break in every single pair. I have weird feet and every single pair I buy hurts the back of my heel and I end up with raw, bleeding skin. [&o] I now try to find shoes with no backs for that very purpose.

I have tried everything to break in shoes...stretching them with the stretcher things you can buy, putting padding around the heels or other parts that hurt my feet, buying the gel inserts, but in the end the only thing that works for me is to continue to wear them no matter how much they hurt my feet and just suffer until one day they're finally not hurting. I wish there was some way. I will be watching this to see other people's ideas.

kallisto -> RE: Random (7/27/2013 9:39:26 PM)

Wear them anytime you can ... especially at the end of the day. Your feet are supposed to be a little swollen at the end of the end of the day and more tired, making you stretch the shoes a little more than if you wore them first thing in the morning. When I get a new pair of shoes (if I have time before I actually "need" to wear them), I will wear them around the house/yard/shopping/running errands, etc., whenever I can. When my feet start hurting I take them off for a little bit and then put them back on.

And of course, wear plenty of bandaids [:)]

Toysinbabeland -> RE: Random (7/27/2013 10:00:02 PM)

if you can freeze your shoes, then freeze a big bag with water in it inside the shoe and it will stretch it naturally when the water expands.

Edited for damnable auto correct.

metamorfosis -> RE: Random (7/28/2013 1:23:06 AM)

I doubt there's any way than just to do it. I sympathize, though. Believe it or not I have, just this year, discovered shoes.

TNDommeK -> RE: Random (7/28/2013 4:06:28 AM)

Omg, I just got home. They were a little better tonight but damn, they still hurt. I'm thinking my gel insoles need to be replaced maybe. But also the part that comes across my toe is rubbing and it's causing blisters. :(

But the only way is to just deal with it. The freezer thing, I've never heard of that. I'll try anything.
LW- I have that same problem with some shoes, I always try to get shoes with out the backs. I have beautiful heels that I pretty much just stare at bc I know what's gonna happen when I wear them.

kalikshama -> RE: Random (7/28/2013 9:17:06 AM)

I think the quality and construction of the shoes is key.

I've had these 5" shoes since March and don't expect that they will ever be comfortable. See how thin the sole is? Note the pointy toe.

These are only an inch shorter and required no break in whatsoever. I bought them and wore them for hours to a wedding. No pain the next day. Look at the nice thick sole.

K - if you need the pointy heel - have you tried something like the Brash Kosmo? I tried them on at Payless earlier this year and they were pretty comfortable.

MasterCaneman -> RE: Random (7/28/2013 11:42:17 AM)

K, I don't know if this is an option, but the way I used to break in my shoes (combat/work boots/leather) was this:

Pour about four inches of very warm water in the tub.Put on a pair of socks you don't care about. Put on the boots/shoes and tie them snugly (not tight). Step in the water and stand there until the boots/shoes are saturated. If they've been water-proofed at the factory, you'll have to remove it with rubbing alcohol beforehand.
As the day goes on, loosen them as your feet expand, which usually happens in late afternoon or the last quarter of a "walking" work shift. Wear them until they dry out. Saddlesoap, oil, and polish them after letting them dry out completely (air dry, not one of those boot dryers). This method has worked for me (for the most part) for the past thirty years. Obviously, this works better in warm weather, and it won't work with steel-toes (they rust inside the leather).

TNDommeK -> RE: Random (7/28/2013 12:11:38 PM)

KK I haven't tried them, I have a red pair just like the black pair, and they are great. I only wear heels with very high platforms. So technically my foot isn't just all pointy and stuff lol.

MC the shoes I'm referring to are suede, I can't do water. :(

MasterCaneman -> RE: Random (7/28/2013 12:40:18 PM)

I should have guessed from the options offered up above. Boy shoes seem to work different that girl shoes, I guess. Real suede or that artificial stuff they make out of recycled bags (microsuede)? If it's real suede, it might work, although you'd have to give it a good brushing and oiling (suede treatment) afterward.

After consulting the mighty Google, there's a formula for homemade stretching fluid. 1 part rubbing alcohol, 2 parts water. Spray it on until saturated and walk until dry. Then do the suede care routine (brushing/oiling) afterward.

Thanks!!

MercTech -> RE: Random (7/28/2013 6:11:31 PM)

Ladies, ladies, don't you realize that women's shoes are designed by misogynistic sadistic foot fetishists and perpetrated on the fashion world as an attempt to use universal foot torture as a tool for world domination?

Or, it may be a plot by third world terrorists (where 99 percent of shoes are made) to cripple the population of our country?

Giggle a bit but commiserating with you on the lack of decent fitting footwear.

littlewonder -> RE: Random (7/28/2013 7:23:13 PM)

I have tons of beautiful heels that like you, I just stare at and know they will never get worn. It makes me sad everytime I look at them.

And now because of my feet being swollen from who knows what (doc still trying to figure it out), the only shoes I can wear are a couple of flat shoes that are really, really stretched out and flip flops. Everything else just hurts more than I can stand. It sucks.

I miss my nice shoes.

Sorry..I knew you were a guy before even checking your profile!! First...most heels that are made from leather, if they fit well at first, will be too big once they stretch. Not a problem with lace ups because you can tighten them. High heels become dangerous if they are too loose. Second...the pretty shoes NEVER come in "the right size " it is just how it is!!! [:D]

littlewonder -> RE: Random (7/28/2013 9:11:00 PM)

I don't think men will really understand women's shoes. They simply are not anywhere near similar. Most men have no problems with shoes except maybe with width from men I have been with. But other than that, the materials are rarely the same and they don't have to worry about high heels.

Sigh....men have it easy with shoes.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Random (7/29/2013 4:42:22 AM)

I wear canvas shoes so the main problem is the rubber soles cracking. I have to wear a size larger than usual because of edema.

One thing I learned...different makers use different sizes...what might be a size 8.5WW could be a regular 9 from another company.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: Random (7/29/2013 5:46:12 AM)

FR

My current shoe dilemma is trying to find a pair of steel-toe-capped boots that don't make me look like a child trying on daddy's shoes and/or an extra in a cyberpunk movie.

Also, those things are HOT in the summer. Thank god I don't have to wear them every day.

garyFLR -> RE: Random (7/29/2013 5:54:08 AM)

I always use shoe trees if my shoes are cutting into me, it just gives me a little more room to manoeuvre.

jlf1961 -> RE: Random (7/29/2013 6:04:33 AM)

You might look into something like this.

I used shoe and boot stretchers on everything but deck shoes. I have size 13 D/E feet, depending on who made the shoe or boot, and with Justins, an E is not quite wide enough and a EE is too wide, so I loosen up the leather with mink oil or saddle soap, stick in the stretchers and wait about a week.

Of course if J Leddy's son made boots the way his dad did, I would go to him, however he is a "modernist" boot maker not a "traditionalist" like his dad was.
