Yes, it does sound like more of a deterrent than a right, but it *is* sexist. I'm trying to be fair here.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: A huge hypocrisy factor within gender argument (8/1/2013 8:04:37 AM)

Me too. I'd be more than happy to surrender that right - men don't even need to beg.

There is one that I can think of. Women reporters have the right to enter the locker rooms of male athletes (for interviews, etc.), but men reporters don't have a similar right to enter the locker rooms of female athletes.

since when, in the US, have news agencies covered womens' sports in such detail that locker room interviews would be aired?
Womens' sports barely get a mention, much less any sort of real coverage.

cloudboy -> RE: A huge hypocrisy factor within gender argument (8/1/2013 8:52:09 AM)

It's a muddled question.

FelineRanger -> RE: A huge hypocrisy factor within gender argument (8/1/2013 9:04:33 AM)

Disappointing. I was hoping for some legitimate point to be made and all that's here is an incomprehensible rant.

Missokyst -> RE: A huge hypocrisy factor within gender argument (8/1/2013 9:08:19 AM)

What? You make a circular statement and you want people to jump in where ever and figure out what you mean?
this is going to go well..

That's right, but if they let male reporters in the female locker rooms, there'd be more coverage. [;)]

kiwisub12 -> RE: A huge hypocrisy factor within gender argument (8/1/2013 12:05:07 PM)

Hehe - yes, but it wouldn't be about the sports. ................. or at least, not the one the women are playing.

Men can have the right to abortion the very second they can get pregnant. If men *did* get pregnant, you can bet abortion would have been legal much earlier.

Sorry, next?

Where's all my rights that men don't have?

That is really the only one I can come up with.

There are some different perceptions on receiving mental health service based on sex, but that has nothing to do with rights, it is a cultural and societal issue.

I guess I would have to know what "right" it is that the OP wants in order to really be able to offer solutions.

naughtynick81 -> RE: A huge hypocrisy factor within gender argument (8/1/2013 1:20:28 PM)

Sorry for the people who may be new to these forums but for the people who have been around for a while, they must have bad memories. It's easy to look back on my posting history at the threads I created.

The point I'm making is that whenever a male raises male issues, a lot of the time, people try to shut him down with the "what are you doing about it" tactic. In other words, they are asking these men to beg or else shut up. It's not allowed to be a topic unless a man is begging.

But when a woman raises female issues, sympathy all around. It would be considered sexist to approach a woman in a fashion that's mentioned above when she raises female issues.

Double standards are sexist.

Here's another one, men have less social rights to freedom of speech about male issues compared to women/feminism complaining about female issues when looking at people's attitudes towards the both. Gotta larf.

Women's centres and man centres comes to mind.

naughtynick81 -> RE: A huge hypocrisy factor within gender argument (8/1/2013 1:28:53 PM)

I can go on about less rights to health support and DV support but ya know...

He has a point, people. Our Nick has always been something of a one trick pony.

kiwisub12 -> RE: A huge hypocrisy factor within gender argument (8/1/2013 2:14:06 PM)

I've been around for a while............. and he just doesn't ring a bell. Must not have made much of an impression.
Oh well.

Really? I wouldn't put up with that. I hate women seeing me in a state of undress.

Your thoughts?

Rock on with your bad self, Rocinante! Alonso would be proud. I will state, again, that I think issues important to men SHOULD be discussed. They are VALID issues but as much as you whine about people shutting you down or telling you to beg, those of us who will engage with you are IGNORED by you. So, thread after thread after thread you have had ample opportunity to discuss the issues with someone who is not sitting in judgment of your gender and who AGREES that the issues are important.

Here is another opportunity to discuss the issues.

Let's start with just one that you've mentioned frequently.

Men and domestic violence. It's a terrible thing. It doesn't matter if it's done to a man or a woman and, for sure, men do NOT have the same resources that women have even on an equivalency scale.

Okay, so what, exactly, would you like to talk about when it comes to DV against men? I'm open and willing to discuss the issue with you for as long as you like. You have a voice that you don't think is being heard and I'm telling you that I have ears that are willing to listen.

Feel free. Start.. whenever.
