After Tennant they chose Matt Smith and I thought, fuck, they are just playing to the kids, but Capaldi is soooo left field you just have to laugh, sorry, you just have to fucking laugh.

Lets not go Bond, thread drift, Moore shit, Connery ace, Brosnan meh, Craig fab

Unfortunately, just what BBC America decides to put on. Top Gear, Dr. Who, Primeval, Being Human, Gordon Ramsey, Copper and anything to do with the royals.

What I want to know is what happened to John Hurt? I was hoping he'd make it to the Christmas Special.

I'm just thrilled they got rid of Matt Smith! As a fan of Doctor Who since young childhood (Jon Pertwee was my first...) I've watched every single episode of every single incarnation...until Smith. I even watched the Colin Baker stuff (with gritted teeth) and coped reasonably well with Sylvester McCoy. But Smith is an annoying little twerp, flapping around all over the place and just generally being a twat.

Personally I love Peter Capaldi and I reckon he'll bring something a bit special to the programme for those of us who are a little more mature *smirks*

Mind you, I think I'd have been in seventh heaven if they'd chosen Benedict Cumberbatch....*swoons*

I have to say I loved Matt Smith and will be sorry to see him go. Having seen just about every episode of Dr. Who from John Pertwee on, and many from Troughton and a few from Hartnell, I understand the cycle of Dr. Who regeneration:

Though I never could warm to Colin Baker - he was just too snide and his companions were rubbish...

This.

I was so freaking excited to see John Hurt as the Doctor. I feel a little bit let down now.

Me too, I sooo wanted John Hurt to be the new Doctor, but hey ho. Lets give Capaldi a chance, he was rather good in the thick of it and most of the other stuff he's done.

Yes, BB, I can understand John Hurt not wanting the role full time, but it would be nice for him to do the Christmas Special. Every regeneration since Hartnell/Troughton, everyone said the change over wouldn't work, they were proved wrong. So Yes, let's give Capaldi a chance.

Oh come on, folks. John Hurt? Of course he'd have been brilliant - but he's 73 and the Dr Who filming schedule is punishing. But more importantly, he's too highly sought-after - he's probably got projects planned well into the future.

Wouldn't I just love to see John Hurt steam up to a whole load of Cybermen in a drunken stupor, going 'your my best fucking mates you are!'. Killing them all with alcoholic fumes! That would be just brilliant .

In defense of Matt Smith:

He had some big shoes to fill. It's likes a little girl trying on mommy's high heels.

David Tennant is a fantastic actor. I've seen him in other things and he is always brilliant.

You guys like my little stories; they are worth a chuckle or two. Now imagine if I was to tell one on stage at the Apollo after Robin Williams or Chris Rock had just left the microphone?

Following Tennant is the same damned thing. He was awesome in Blackpool, MacBeth and Goblet of Fire. Of course he made the best Doctor ever, he's one of the best actors in the world - usually we in the geek world get B-Actors for our movies and shows. We got the best of the best and now are complaining that someone else can't fill his shoes.

Keep in mind, we saw John Hurt as the Doctor in a scene where the Doctor's timeline was all merged together. He could be a "prior to first" Doctor, before the Doctor chose the name Doctor (and hence "but not in the name of the Doctor!" at the end). That would let Hurt be an occasional cameo, if they choose to explore it, and could be used as a way to alter the regeneration limit canon.

True, though general thought on John Hurt at the mo is that he was the incarnation that ended the Time War...

Peter Capaldi I'm not sure on yet, he has been in both Dr Who and Torchwood too.

Still, whenever a Doctor's changed I'm never too sure on them lol. I grew up with Colin Baker and got shown all the earlier incarnations by my uncle, my favourite changes daily. i was just getting used to Matt Smith too!

Well, I'm another who thinks that Capaldi will bring a lot to the role.
His Tucker in The Thick of It was brilliant.
