This doesn't address LaTigresse's question at all, but I had the most f--ed up dream the other night about a good friend getting crushed by this elevator/stair contraption while we were running together to get to the bathroom because she really had to go.  It was really gory and nasty.  And I woke up completely convinced that she was dead.

As another aside, I'm reading Stephen King's On Writing right now and he says he got the idea for Misery from a dream he had on a plane.  Upon waking, he wrote it down on a cocktail napkin and, after some thought, it grew into Misery.  Perhaps the key to your fame and fortune is in that dream journal, Level.

Heh heh, with the way I write, j, I better keep playing the lottery .

That's a good book of King's; I enjoy his non-fiction almost as much as the fiction, and over the years, I've built up a nice collection of "how to write" books and articles. Again, let's hope I dream up 6 lucky numerals lol.

I hope this topic goes on and expands, I love talking about dreaming and things

quote:

I had a dream where I went through the whole dying process and it had an effect on how I think about death now.

There was a period of time in my life where I was having a series of dreams about dying. I died so many ways, in so many time periods throughout history during these dreams. They were all so vivid, like they werent really dreams.

I also have dreams where I am another person in other era's, in a different country. I dream I am one particular woman quite often, totally different body and looks and am aware of being in a different country and era but I know it is me none the less.

I've always had a vague sense of de ja vu while walking around during the day. Then later, i realized i dreamt about the thing i was doing. It's quite disturbing.

Though i once had a dream where my dad pushed my step brother (i have no step brother btw) over a cliff, then my step mom (i don't have a step mom either) jumped after him, and my dad jumped after her. So i drove to the nearest gas station, and explained the situation to the guy there. He didn't believe me so i drove him to the spot, and pushed him over the edge for not believing me.

Yes, that's how mine were too. They really were so vivid, I could feel the material my clothes were made of.

I had another set of dreams where I was living another life, in another country, in a different time. It was over the expanse of me being a child there till I was married. I could describe the house in intimate detail. Strange thing about it though was, it was in the time of american slaves, I was white and there were slaves around but I never saw any mistreated, there were no bad feelings around it. I loved the woman who looked after me, I can recall playing with a little black girl as a child having fun together, running through long grass or something long. There was no war around. Nothing traumatic happened, it was just a good life. I never saw my mother in these dreams, my father was always off doing something, although I loved him dearly.  The dreams went on for about 3 months.

Jali I think, perhaps, this deserves a past life thread.

Brightspot and slave jali,

These types of dreams definately sounds like past-life memories
to Me.  Keeping a journal near the bed to write about the dreams
would be a great way to record what you are remembering.

Good idea about the journaling, this is a difficult task as whenever I stir awake I have to remain still and go over a dream. I have to help lock it in my brain and then process it again later because if my animals are aware I am awake my private moment flies out the window.

Some of these particular dreams, as jali has mentioned are very crisp and clear, I even remember smells.

Brightspot, I know exactly what you mean. If my dogs hear me wake up they are pushing and dragging me out of bed ASAP. German Shepherds can be very convincing and of course wish to be taken outside imediately. This of course alerts the horses to the fact that it is breakfast time and they are yelling at me at soon as the door opens.........so much for any quiet contemplation. I have found, that as you said, if I lie still and think for a few moments it fixes the dream more in my conscious mind. I have also noticed that my dream cycle changes with my whoremoans. (sorry guys for that one)
I feel sorry for people that say they do not dream. For me its like reading a book or watching a movie only I am even more "in" the story.
Another question, has anyone ever dreamt as another gender? I have asked friends and family that question and they look at me like I have lost my mind which I of course, love! I have also dreamt in a more out of body state alot. I love flying dreams though I do not do that as often as when I was a child.

Yes, used to be weirded out by it, not so anymore.  Everyone in my dreams has the ability to end up not being what they started out as in the begining of my dream  I've had most every kind of dream you might can imagine.  Dreams inside of other dreams, out of body drreams, watching myself die.  Dreams that cause me to wake up in a sweat so disturbed I have to turn on the lights and of course those dreams that seem to turn out to be preminitions.  (Woooo, I see dead people.   lol).  Btw, I used to think everyone drempt in color.  I used to keep a journal, but over time, it had become so time consuming that just stopped.   I'm sure, if I weren't so lazy and grammatically challenged,  I could give Steven King and Deen Koonzt a run for their money if I were to put some of my past dreams into book format. OK, a gal can 'DREAM' can't she.

Mostly, these days, the dreams I used to have that disturbed me, now bring me such joy, the ones about my siblings and just doing routine things with them, I love those dreams now its like their still with me whenever they appear in my dreams.  I also used to have many dreams about weather disasters, this was prior to Katrina and before I moved to FL from NY.  Now I seem to not have these dreams so often.  The one dream I can always make out is when I dream about reptiles, mostly snakes.  I know to watch out for the people that I'm dealing with, as someone around me means me harm.  When I have those dreams I know I need to watch my back and anytime I've not paid attention to those warnings I've regretted it.

Over all, I do believe dreams are our subconscious mind working out things that we struggle to get a grip on duing our waking moments.  Whether there's info from past lives, I have know idea any thing's possible, but there's certainly important information that can be contained in our dreams when we are stressed and searching for clues that we already know the answers to, but struggle to face them.

LaTigresse, first thanks for inspiring a giggling spell, as you described how your animals react to your awakening I went along with you visually, very funny!
My dog is Husky/Lab and quite persistant too, I think he even notices when my breathing changes from sleep to awake breathing. My three cats arent as anxiously awaiting my consciousness as much as the dog initially but also soon begin the who's going to get my attention first comedy routine. So I agree not much space in there for "quiet contemplation" hehe.

I love flying dreams too, they are the best(well maybe second best), even though I am scared of heights when I'm awake. Sometimes it's a mixture of dancing and flying for me, like I can be really dancing up a storm and then all of a sudden leap into the air, fly, flip, soar all in dance movements.

You ask about being a different gender, I can't say that I see myself as a male in any of my dreams but I do sometimes dream that I am making love to a woman and there have been occasions where I feel as though I am a male, I can feel the sensations of a penis, of being male, at those times I am only seeing the dream through the individuals eyes not like most of the time I am looking through my set of eyes in the dream but also can view the dream as a whole. I don't know if that makes any sense, that is the best I can describe it.

BTW, I don't think you may have lost your mind having asked that question.
I am curious about what others have experienced in that vain.
Sometimes my curiousity makes people think I have lost some marbles too, I have many times gotten the reaction, "You think about some really weird shit."  Then my standard retort is quoting Einstein; "Imagination is more important than knowledge." Then seek someone else to ask.

Yes!!! flying dancing! And yes, I am also not at all cool with heights, isn't that odd. But then if I was certain I could fly I would have no need to be afraid of falling, rather like in Witches of Eastwick.

I am glad that others get similar reactions to the interesting treks their brains take. Not caring if people think I am wacky when I express it is one of the delights of getting older and more self confident therefor caring less what others think.
As far as dreaming as a male, oddly it is always as a young man, usually I would say around the age of 12-15ish. Only a few times as an adult man being "with" a woman. Most of the time it is at an earlier time, I would say earlier 1900's.

Something else I just thought of that I do quite often is a half awake dreaming. I am aware of what is going on around me but napping and dreaming. The dreams are always very vivid and I am more able to remember them upon waking.

Have to laugh about pets and dreams... Our female malamute Sasha, will if her kibble bowl is empty pland a cold wet nose in Neets's face and talk untill one of us get up to rectify the matter. Other times when it is daylight she wilkl walk around the bed talking to us, usually because she seems to thinkthat if she is up, the least we humans can do is to get up and keepher copmpany or turn the TV on for her. If the talking and singing doesn't work, she has now developed the habbit of dragging the false fur cloak  off the bed, sitting on it and staring at either Neets or myself from about 2' away untill we wake up. I often have the waking dream of a pair of big brown eyes staring at me...... If Neets is up and gone out I often awake to a wel nose on my face with Sasha's head on my shoulder and hearing her talking.. Guess that is Malamute Love but it does make for some fleeting dteams upon waking especially if I've been watching Underworld or Underworld Revolution before going to bed.

LaTigress, I do the half awake dreaming too. I also have times where I know I am awake but do not feel my body. Also sometimes when I am in a sound sleep and I am jarred awake by say the phone, alarm clock or a loud noise outside, I can actually feel myself slam back into my body, it's a very uncomfortable feeling.

IronBear, animals sure can get their message across in very funny and entertaining ways, part of what makes them soooo adorable even though we may not find them so cute at the moment.
BTW, one of my cat's name is Sasha spelled the same way too.

About every 2-3 years I have seem to have a dream that is so hellish it can only be described as a nigthmare. Last time, a group of evil looking total strangers had me in a room they'd locked me in and were actually trying to skin me alive after following me up and down an escalator in a big store for what seemed like hours. I woke up before they succeeded (thank you, God).

I am sure it was related in some way to what was actually going on in my life and head at the time - but couldn't put my finger on it (but am glad it only happens once in awhile. I rarely remember my dreams, but I always remember those dreams - sometimes for years. - Susan

Interesting, verrrry interesting. That "slam" feeling when returning to the body is usually a sigh of Astral Projection withthe astral body reuniting withthe corporeal one. Most people on their return usually feel a falling sensation. The danger is that if they "Hit the deck" before they return to the body, they are likely to suffer a heart attack, usually cause by the terror of hitting what they percieve to be the ground.... I find that the return feeling is completely different and often more gentle when on a spirit journey using a shamanic canoe and again different when ona vision quest where you are aware and can see the "normal" life around you withthe vision superimposed....

That slamming into the body after flying dream has been repeated
throughout My life.  I have had dreams and regressions as being
both male and female, from various times and cultures. I also talk
in My sleep and do not remember what was said, which makes for some
very interesting conversations later.  lol

When I had a housefull of 4 legged pets, just turning over
in bed could be a problem since the cats would grumble in protest
and if I wanted to go get a drink of water that meant stepping over
the dogs.  Accordingly, I left on a low-level night light so as to not
trip or fall on any of them.

Vendaval this made me smile because I can relate 100%. As we live in the country and it gets pitch dark some nights we do what we call "the puppy shuffle" in the middle of the night. Walking slowly, feeling for big furries laying in the way. I think its funny how we coddle and spoil them, I would feel terrible if I stepped on a paw on the way to the bathroom.
