Just think, with that experience, you could be a college Professor! lol

Having a degree need not actually denote intelligence. I have a degree, but at a practical level, I can't tie my own shoelaces .

Has anyone in here actually been to college in the past few years? High debt to get a piece of paper. I'm all for education but I've known way too many people who spent years, a lot of debt and still can't find descent jobs. I'm not going to go to college just for the sake of saying I have a degree. If I have a true field of interest, then I would be all for it.

Well then... I will just have to stay out of Australia

I couldn't resist...

I got a doctorate in Divinity but I don't require people to call me Doctor or Reverend. I study religion but know better than to argue about it.

I place a high value on intelligence, on the paperwork, not so much.

As Jeff pointed out, there are many ways to be intelligent. Having complimentary brains makes for great teamwork.

I was lucky, when I went to Uni, I didn't have to pay for it, I would recommend a university education to everyone, the piece of paper at the end is nothing, the journey is everything, the people you meet, the ideas you encounter shape you for the rest of your life.

A degree does not guarantee a good career on the production of a certificate, & if that's the only reason you take one, perhaps you should rethink. What it does do is expand your horizons, gives you the ability to embrace new ideas & makes you a well rounded human being. I look back on my Uni days with much affection.

BTW I don't mean to suggest that those without degrees are not well rounded, sentient people, but, it was the making of me.

I blame you entirely Bath University !!

Very well stated, Gary!

I changed directions so many times in college. It took me some time to realize it wasn't the idea of having a degree that turned me on, it was very much the variety of classes and different ideas that I enjoyed.

There were prerequisite courses I learned absolutely nothing from and only took them due it being required. Other courses absolutely helped to shape ideas and skills.

I agree, a piece of paper should not be the standard to determine one's intelligence. Sometimes (not always) it seems that once one holds a degree they assume they're done learning and are no longer open to new ideas.

We both believe in the value of education. And push the hell out of our kids to get one. My oldest is going for her master's. My son wants to get a law degree. His oldest has just finished her BA while working full time and raising two kids, her office is now sponsoring her to get her CPA.

I have been attending college for the past two years and will be starting my bachelors degree in a month. Yup, it costs lots of money but that piece of paper I will receive means a job making awesome money. I already have a job in my major plus once I have that degree I already know I won't have any trouble at all getting a well paying job in my field...simply because I already have the experience and knowledge behind me. It's not impossible to find a job. It sometimes just takes lots and lots of work to get that job. No one said life was easy.
