I hate to say it, but...

I think if the other side where cleared up a bit of the many fake profiles, that would cut the traffic to the site drastically. That traffic count is likely used in the advertisement revenues.

Secondly, implementing code changes (like captcha stuff) isn't easy, so maybe that would require hiring someone.

I like this site because it reminds me of some of the other sites I visit now and in the past. I personally prefer this format over what they have at FL. And what RS said about plugins is true, with the correct fixes you can copy/paste in here, but why? Other than to speed up the spam process is the only other reason I can see it. I prefer to type my responses in here as they occur to me, not after the fact, and if I want to quote something offsite, I just link to it. That avoids the 'citation needed' responses to a minimum.

She's still around. Her profile pops up when you get a 'profile not found'.

The question with websites is often whether your prefer a lot of eye candy or prefer content.

So many sites have become more about "look" than content.

I really hate the "it's free so you can't complain" bandwagon.

I do too, but it always helps if the complaint is actually legitimate.

Not only is it sycophantic, it also completely misunderstands how CM's business model works; the content provided by site users is the primary factor that gives CM its market value.

You don't say? How come no one ever thought of this before?

quote:

It's pretty evident that CM's business model is based on quantity, not quality. From their perspective, traffic is all that matters.

You can't be serious!

Realistically, they've found their market niche and they'll stick with it.

Realistically, this site has a business model which is the same fundamental business model as 95% of all websites that engage in providing a forum or a platform or a "network" or whatever for those interested in that niche, or herd direction, or hobby, or 'professional interest,' or any of whatever, to make few bucks from adverts (Collarme) or a few million bucks per fiscal quarter (Google, Explorer, Firefox, 'newsgroups,' Myface, Spacebook, TweeterMeter, etc.).

Yeah, that was a total shock to me, too.

why would you change what's working? It's obviously working for them. If it wasn't I'm sure they would change it but why change a good thing???

They get plenty of money from their advertisements and draws in plenty of people to make this site successful. Businesses change when business starts to go bad. Obviously it isn't.

Yeah really. Especially when you don't know what you're doing.

What does any of that matter? I'm serious.

IT matters a heck of a lot. Collarme is pretty much the biggest and most successful site of its kind, as far as i'm aware. i've tried quite a lo of other bdsm personals sites, and they get nowhere near the same traffic level. Maybe alt.com could complete, but that's not a free site, which brings a lot of issues. There are lots of people here, so more people come here. This is a vicious (virtuous?) circle that makes it difficult for other sites to really matter.

Are you paying for a service here?

many people would happily pay for the service, and love to. i'd love to help pay for improvements. But the admins have mentioned in the past that they're not interested in doing that.

quote:

I guess if it mattered to anyone then there might be something done about it, as it is things stay as they are. the owners of this site must be happy with things the way they are, or they don't feel like doing anything about it.

it matters to a lot of people, the site owners just apparently aren't among them. i think i recall reading an admin post a while back saying that they don't have the time to improve the site, are busy with other things/etc, and we should be grateful for what we have.

What we have is a gilded cage :<

To add to the list of issues:

-The site is quite unfriendly to non-US citizens. The distance searching features only work with US zip codes.
-The site doesn't keep track of what you write in the "Keyword(s) or City" box, blanking it out every time the page is refreshed. this is annoying when ou depend on it to show people in your city.
-The search features are weak, only allowing us to choose either one option, or a wildcard, for each of the dropdown box fields like gender, orientation, etc. This means you have to run several searches and manually look through several seperate sets of results to see everyone that might match your preferences.

Or you can hide those people so they never show up in a search again, thus cutting down on future search time.

Maybe- but there is also fet life. CM is not really an adult site- since we cant talk about many things. CM is overly moderated, where as FL flows better for an adult audience.

true, and i do do that. but it's a slow process, and it still doesn't account for new peolple which might come up in those categories

or if you're referring to hiding EVERYONE i'm not interested in, that gets pertty difficult. too much traffic :<

the hide button itself also has another problem, clickingit refreshes the page (and throws away some of my current search settings, as welll as what page i'm on. I've worked around this by, when browsing people, opening up hundreds of progiles in seperate tabs. but it gets annoying.

You seem to misunderstand my point while making it for me at the same time.

You admit that this site is heavily used, therefore my point of "who cares" was that the owners of this successful site don't seem to care to make it any better - their goals are achieved. As you say, it would cost them time and money, why would they choose to expend that time and money if they don't have to? People are using this site as it is! Therefore, it doesn't matter how much the OP or anyone else complains about anything, what CM is to the owners is a success. If it weren't they'd change things; if they had to appease their users somehow, they would.

The owners have a captive audience for the time being. Seems to me therefore that things will stay the same. People who come to this site have 2 choices, stay or go. If they go, there will be thousands more users to take their place within a few days. If they stay, they have to suck up whatever their grievances are and use the site as it is.
