I love the design of Collarme. It is easy on the eyes and easy to navigate. The message boards are the best designed I know.

Agreed. I like, as in love, the one dashboard format. FL kills me the way you have to dig and search for forums. That's why i spend almost no time there.
If CM went that route, I'd be outta here in a heartbeat.Fuck, I'd move so fast Snagglepuss would be envious.

I don't care for the massive abundance of scammers. Wouldn't mind seeing some sort of sci-fi foto sorter that pulls out obvious spam, especially the 10 million XNXX chat gals who peer in daily. Would like to see fins charged (Hey-you get something for nothing. Carry your weight.Don't be a freerider), the site's kinda slow and the forums can really be so. Can't stand that oh so convenient placing of the bondage toys ad site right next to the mailbox.

But these are just quibbles.Overall,I'm a big fan. Two thumbs (And a winkie) up!

It is a classic and familiar 3 tier menu BBS system. A sound design that makes for a good navigation. Like Kana, I hate the bullshit at FL search with that filter menu system. Their passion for that piece of shit Ruby on Rails platform made them completely forget the UX (user experience design).

Nobody wants this site stuck in the future, how would you get to it? Let's get real here.

(in reply to both Kana and Resident Sadist.)

I absolutely loath FetLife's design. I spent about five minutes on it before saying "fuck this."

To any and all it may concern: Well, I'm off to Stratford, Ontario to take in some Shakespeare, Fiddler on the Roof... and Tommy. Should be an interesting combination.

See y'all when I get back next week.

The site looks fine on my mobile.
The site is slow sometimes.
The other side worked like a charm for me.

I saw the ad and laughed my ass off. They need a platform that can deliver a nice experience first. Take a pile of shit and make it pretty, still smells like shit. For what they are trying to do, mixing all that social stuff with all the custom fetches to personalize your page, they should just step up to something with some beef in it (like Sitecore) and get a marketing profile on visitors too. Would make their banner ads worth something if the were filtering sales to males, females, D types and S types. Posting all those banners in dumb rotation is a waste. Trying to sell me dildos & pro Dommes instead of dungeon furniture and leather is a waste. The whole damn site is a waste.

It hate visiting that place and only go once in while. My friends send me notes like this I found this morning, "are you going to the Woodshed this weekend? I'll come over and we can party". I hate the site so much, I didn't get that message until just now. There was a great presentation/workshop at the Woodshed this weekend by some of my fav speakers on the M/s topic. Master Obsidian & slave namaste, holding the International Master and slave title for 2010. Would have been all warm and fuzzy if we all could have gotten together... But I had to write them back today and say, "I went and it was fun. Sorry I missed your letter on this antiquated piece of shit social network site that is fueled by dinosaur shit. Which is why I don't get my mail here regularly". They understand I am a snob, I built their commercial website 10 years ago and they spent $13,000 in consulting fees to have it analyzed for upgrade by design and marketing companies. Once at 3 years out and again at 5 years. Both companies said the original design and keyword relevancy for search engine optimization could not be improved. The site I built still stands today.

So I shot a quick market & traffic overview to CollarMe showing how they lose over $45,000 a month in revenue on existing traffic that already pays that much elsewhere, at sites with less traffic. But alas, the management at both FL & CM have good hearts but bad business and web sense.

Dude, you preach to the choir. There is (and thats fine I guess) a mentality that these guru owners are really with it, and if you try to tell them anything (especially if you actually know something) you end up in the bitbucket with the many clowns that say.........

Here's what you aurta do (from their basement)

But I expect the owners of both sites make their actual living by other means, and this is sort of a hobby.

Even simple shit like block report and hide user in one column under the profile (yanno organization) is ignored.

I hear ya! There was a time when $400,000.00 - $500,000.00 a year was real money and these sites would have been well designed and attended. But the owners of CM & Fet must feel that isn't enough money to chase after, it is too much work or just outside their field of vision. Danni's hard drive was making 7 million a year a few years ago when I last looked. They have a fraction of the traffic. They are ranked 55,724 in the US. CM is in the top 2000. Before the CollarMe site started dropping in ranks, CollarMe was 1,468 most popular in US. Danni pulled 7 mil a year being the 55,724 most popular site in the US. Granted, she is the only woman in the world who appeared on the cover of both the Wall Street Journal and Juggs magazine, but fractionally, and by sheer traffic weight alone, CM should be wealthy and have a paid staff with the best IT department and server software available.

Did you know that in 2011:
1 in every 5,000 North American internet users visit collarme.com daily.
1 in every 22,155 global internet users visit collarme.com daily.

I met someone from the oil industry a few years ago that turned down a medical deal because it only made $150,000,000.00 annually (at 70% profit) and it wasn't enough money to waste his time on. He knew the figures when he came down but thought the world market slice was bigger, he didn't release it was already near cap. We got drunk, he jumped back in his jet and went home.

. . . and so it goes with CM & FL. People say the owners don't care, in a small way they are right. They care to the limited degree they can afford to care or are able to care. They gave us these sites to fill a great need. They had the vision to do that. But their focus in life is elsewhere . . . or this is outside their expertise. So they do their best to keep it going, or do the best their business expertise in this field allows instead of hiring or partnering with someone that is an expert in the field and will make both the owners and the visitors happier.

ya ya ya . . . put the mirror down, I can see I am on a soapbox preachin' to the choir. However, I am not just preaching. I have been slowly accumulating resources to see if I can put the management muscle behind a free membership style leather web and get it launched. I remain in touch with several of my fav ex mods and post authors from CM and they all say they will get involved with my leatherlifestyle.org project. I don't know what will come of it because like CM & FL, I have my main focus elsewhere. I just came out of retirement and revived a business that was making considerably more than a leather web could.

Luv ya bro, BCNU!

Compare the site to other ones out there.

- Its design is way out of date.
- Composing a message doesn't take account of line breaks when copying from another editor.
- The instant chat/webcam doesn't work for some browsers
- The site looks like crap on mobile.
- The site is really slow sometimes!

Point 2 really annoys me. I like to take my time in composing emails. However when you copy and paste text from somewhere else, you lose all the formating and then you get a reply asking if you copy and paste it to everyone.

So what is it? Is it a case of funding or are your IT guys lazy?

Better be careful, maybe some day someone will launch a much better/functioning site.

I presume when you say "the site", you mean this one.

I'm sure you're right....and so?

The format apparently doesn't appeal to you. And? Your point?

You don't like the chat function (I actually wasn't aware we had one).

You hate the mobile function (that's gotta suck...truly....I don't know how you manage frankly).

FUUUUUUUCK!!!!!! Point number 2 is pissing you off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!!

(What was point number 2????)

Oh yeah.....sumpin was pissing you off.

GAWDAMN that sucks!!!!

I fucking HATE that shit!!!!!

(Now I'm fucking bumming).

"Better be careful, maybe some day someone will launch a much better/functioning site."

Shit man....I bet they will.....and that would suck wouldn't it? Then you'd, like have to go to a totally different fucking site.....

FUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!! That is so fucked up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It might be the site does not have the IT expertise that other sites have!
