I'll probably get one. I've just moved, so I'll have to see whether I can make an appointment to get a shot (in which case I will), or whether I'll have to attend a walk in clinic packed out with every fucking hypochondriac coffin dodger in the catchment area (in which case I won't).

Lmao @ hypochondriac....... The irony Moonie, the irony. Plus, if you dont get the jab and get flu, a ten minute wait may seem worth it in hindsight.

I am getting one as advised by my doc, due to Asthma and age. Had one for several years now and only once got the flu.

Moonhead -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/19/2013 5:22:49 PM)

I'm not talking about a ten minute wait, sadly. I wouldn't have a problem with that.
I'm talking about being told that they might be able to fit me in this clinic at some point over the three hours it's open, but if not, then they'll be starting another clinic in five hours, and maybe they'll have run out of Mail reading scrotes who'd never normally bother getting a jab, but have seem some bullshit scare story about swine flu this year by then.
Fuck that.
Normally if I'm driven to blow out a clinic (something I've only ever done twice to date), I can get the jab as part of my diabetic review check up.

A flu shot? LOL!
No way, I'm not a masochist. I'd rather stay healthy and keep known toxins out of my body, thanks. Flu shots are for the misinformed. If you don't know if I'm talking about you or not - I am.

Moonhead -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/19/2013 5:30:52 PM)

Well quite: I got a 'flu shot back in January and the evil toxins the Conspiracy hid in the vaccine killed me stone dead. I got home and died of mercury poisoning. However, as an Englishman, I am not one to let something as trivial as death interfere with my internet use, social activities, or sex life, so I'm still posting on here.

Agreed, thats why flu deaths are down in the UK, no one is getting the jabs as we are all too clued up.

Yep, I'll be getting it. A simple cold drops into my lungs and is a freaking catastrophy. I'm immune suppressed and don't want to count on herd immunity.

When stuff hits my lungs, I get asthmatic bronchitis; I've landed in the ER several times with what my PA called "life threatening" asthma attacks. When I'm not doing that, I'm coughing so hard I almost puke.

I wont be getting one.

MrRodgers -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/19/2013 8:32:43 PM)

Nobody should take a flu shot...it very likely, will give you the flu.

Spiritedsub2 -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/19/2013 8:35:04 PM)

I've never had a flu shot, only had the flu maybe twice in 20 years if that often, and work with masses of the public every day.

NeonicDreamer -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/19/2013 9:00:03 PM)

I will get one because my employer offers them free of charge thanks to my position.

if I had to pay for it I probably wouldn't get it.

snappykappy -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/19/2013 9:11:58 PM)

I have to get one because I do not have an immune system in fact anyone who ever had a transplant has no immune system and will get it thru the veterans admin due to the fact I had the tansplant via them and the university of wisconsin

theshytype -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/19/2013 10:07:17 PM)

Nope, no flu shot for me. I've only ever had one - while I was pregnant with my last.
I rarely get sick and if I don't have to put meds or vaccines in my system, I won't.

slavekate80 -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/21/2013 2:36:58 PM)

No. The benefit of the flu shot is a slightly reduced chance of getting the flu - that doesn't seem to be a big enough benefit to be worth getting a vaccine with limited safety testing. Especially since getting the flu, for me, usually just means feeling lousy for a week. At worst, I might get a sinus infection - though since quitting smoking those have been rare. If it looked like this year's influenza strain was exceptionally deadly I'd consider the shot, but for garden variety seasonal flu, I'll take my chances.

littlewonder -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/21/2013 8:18:18 PM)

There is no such thing as "garden variety of the flu".

MistressDarkArt -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/21/2013 8:36:11 PM)

No flu shot for me. If I get sick at all, it tends to be URIs or SIs which flu vaccine won't help.

Since I started douching my sinuses with Alkalol for the last few years, I haven't really had anything significant. This stuff's safe and amazing. I mix it 50/50 with saline and give each side 10 sprays morning and evening.

NuevaVida -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/21/2013 10:39:16 PM)

I'm undecided. We have flu shot day at work, where shots are doled out. I usually decide that day. Last year I was sick that day so I didn't get it. I usually lean toward not getting it.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/21/2013 11:08:47 PM)

I had it when I was pregnant, I don't need it this year but I'm not against it. My husband probably will because he's diabetic. The kiddo is due a shingles vaccine when it becomes available for her age group.

Yes, I vaccinate my child and I am totally confident in that decision.

sexyred1 -> RE: are you getting a flu shot this year? (8/21/2013 11:45:44 PM)

Regarding the shingles vaccine, they usually do not recommend it if you are under 60 unless you have an immune issue.

I am neither over 60 nor have an immunity problem but because my Mother suffered so badly with hers and I had chicken pox, both my brother and I were able to approval to get them.

Believe me you do Not want shingles. My Mom said it was more painful than any surgeries or pain she ever imagined.

As for the flu shot, it cannot hurt you and each year the strains get worse.

No, I am not.

Not using the public transport helps a lot.
