No. You are not missing anything. No one here has been able to, or has even really tried to, show how it was racist.

The mask was one of a black man. If that makes it racist, then, wouldn't it be equally racist if it was any other skin tone? Apparently, we'd have to have a mask that had all the various skin tone categories on it so as to not offend any race.

I can't wait for some jabrone to wear a rainbow colored clown-hair wig and the LGBTQ crowd go apeshit over it being offensive.

He was making fun of Obama, don't you know that any criticism of him is automatically racist?

Now I do not deny there are likely many racist at that state fair, it is happening about an hour away from me and I know the people of the area. That does not automatically make the clown wearing an Obama mask doing something racist. Before any jackass wants to call me racist, be sure and first tell my bi-racial son that his Dad is racist.

Seems like the typical race baiting that has been going on to me. Drama lama's should be avoided at all times.

I grew up in NE Missouri and you are right the are more racists per capita than here in Alabama.
That said there were no such repercussions when showtime had a scene with Bush's head on a pike.

The mask event seems like a major over reaction to me
But the reactions in here are not a surprise

Personally, I find it hilarious how most of those who consider themselves left of center have yet to come out against this on this thread.

This is a redneck hillbilly part of the state...They are prejudiced...everywhere you go in this part of the sate you will see Confederate flags hanging from the porches. That said be black or white they are friendly gracious people all and all. They just want their way of life to continue and feel the Obama administration is doing its best to take it away.

All the above said... This is a free speech country, and in that part of the state what was said and how it was said it is not offensive. It was distasteful and the clown and announcer should have known that this was a state wide audience. At the most they should have been disciplined and or fired from the fair... But it is ridiculous to band the clown from ever working at the state fair again. That is taking the food from his families mouths for using his Constitutional right of free speech.

Now Obama did not demand he be banned this was the states idea...I don't care who made the discussion it is wrong.

The bottom line is, if it were a white male at the helm there would be no complaints. Call it what it is. Racists who cannot stand to see a black man in office. A diseased mindset.

The term -blackface- is getting bandied around here.

That term refers to a (usually) white man covering his face with black shoepolish or the like, then adding a clownlike mouth etc in white greasepaint. Think of Al Jolson singing -Mammy-.

But also often accompanying this with name, voice, mannerisms that are deliberate and insulting caricatures of stereotypical negro ones. It is condescending and derogatory. And it fits to a T the definition of racist.

THIS INCIDENT WAS NOT IN ANY WAY LIKE THAT

It was not -blackface-. It was a FACE mask depicting a president. Who is, yes, BLACK.

The term has baggage. Using it frames the whole incident inappropriately. And does so to force reactions that are, with the facts alone, unjustified.

According to some posters here, it is fairly common (perhaps even by rodeo clowns) to wear a mask depicting the president.

If so, this is no better or worse.

Is it wrong because the clown behind the mask was white? If the clown had been an African-American would that have -saved- this situation from being a racist one?

How about a political cartoon involving Obama... If it includes negroid features and is at all negative toward him or his policies or actions, is it racist? Or legitimate political commentary or satire?

As BamaD said:

He was making fun of Obama, don't you know that any criticism of him is automatically racist?

But it is your right and mine to be prejudiced if we please... It is your right and mine to tell the world if we like. It is his employers right to fire him from the job... but it is not the States right to take away his livelihood for life for exercising free speech...In my opinion anyway.

Otherwise discipline was the proper response to his actions...Everyone has the right to say what they want but they have to suffer the consequences for what they say...but banning for life is an overreaction.

The problem is, he thinks it's great. Apparently, so do others.

----------

Obama truly is the Jackie Robinson of politics. He always remains calm and dignified no matter what kind of shit happens around him.

I wonder what John Roberts thinks of the Rodeo Clown (having repealed the voting rights act.) Frankly, it might be nice if Justice Thomas piped up and said something about this kind of incident. There's no way he can like it.

I was chastised by a black man who heard me criticizing a government policy.
He said I wouldn't be having the conversation if we didn't have a blank president.
I was talking about a policy put in during the Clinton administration that costs me about 300 a month from my retirement pay. Just like some of these folks he was making race based assumptions founded on his prejudices. Previous presidents have been ridiculed just as harshly and it was written off as bad taste. Lighten up.

Oh please!! Do not lump Me in with the one who spoke to you. Unlike him I am well aware of the politics of the US and have been BEFORE Obama came into office. Perhaps he was not but I assure you I am not speaking just because our president is black. What I speak on is the sudden outrage of government policies in full force because he is black. Were was this outrage of the patriot act,etc when Bush and Cheney was at the helm? The mice were quiet in the church because the one's who were telling them what was best for them and butt fuckin them at the same time were white. Stole their homes, jobs, and savings right from underneath them. Robbed the treasury with the first bailout unaccounted for before leaving office. That president was white. By the time the sheeple got around to realizing they have been fucked over, the man that stepped in was black and took the brunt of the anger when the sheep wiped the sleep from their fuckin eyes! Then it became lets pit the poor and middle class against one another by using their deep seeded racist mind sets to do it. It's the black man's fault. An old classic.

NO previous president has been ridiculed and criticized more than the one we have now. It's not about any fucking lightening up!! It's about seeing things for what they are and as long as you continue to refuse to. the more the foot will continue to be on your neck. The more you will be a Political pawn and a sheep!!

So don't talk to Me like I don't know what time it is. I saw the corporations taking over government and those in Congress who are suppose to work for the people 20 years ago ( a reason I made a conscious decision to only have one child. Saw what was coming) The citizens of this country was warned that we would be were we are NOW 20 years ago!! The sheep weren't listening. To busy grazing, lazing, getting fat, and swallowing prescription medications!!

Instead of poking one another with sticks in regard to differences of appearance, lifestyles, and opinions ask yourselves how are you going to weed out the poison in Congress that sold the government to the highest bidders and it doesn't start with Obama. He is only doing what his handlers tell him to do. We have a president that was BEGGING you sheeple to take control back but your ears were and are blocked because ALL you can see is the color of his skin and if you deny it you are filthy liars. He BEGGED you to stand up and do something and vote those out who sold your country but you are too busy listening to your inner racism. Things will only get worse until you deprogram your thinking and see clearly what is going on around you. Everything is being taken from you, us. The right to do what you want as a woman with your own bodies, etc. What next? But here you are bickering and debating over stupid shit!!

And NO, civil unrest is not the answer. That will only get you a dirt nap.

Bunch of bickering fools!!

I disagree. If Obama cant handle this he needs to step down because it means he is a failure.

We have to stop being victims- this game is wearing then.

It's disgusting! Blame blame blame. As long as you can point the finger and blame you do not have to do any real work. Now we elect these insane assholes into office who lie to get there and then when they get there those who voted them in start listening to the undertones of racism, etc. Fuckin sad.
