Interesting that they don't seem to have considered it worth a mention on their website or a press release.

The bottom line is, if it were a white male at the helm there would be no complaints. Call it what it is. Racists who cannot stand to see a black man in office. A diseased mindset.

I don't like him in office because he's stupid.

Does the name Abner Louima mean anything to you?

Nope. Nothing at all.

quote:

As I said in my post if he was playing with the lips of the mask that evokes racist imagery to me.

IF?!? I have only heard a retelling of the scene as the videos I've seen on Yahoo don't actually show the clown moving. So, this could have been racist if he played with the lips on the mask?!?

quote:

I don't equate him wearing the mask with blackface but an action like that puts things in choppier waters.

farglebargle brought "blackface" into the thread, even though it was clearly a mask and not blackface. No surprise there.

quote:

How deliberate he was in his actions I don't know. Then add things like saying "Yahoo! We're gonna
smoke Obama! which again might not be explicitly racist but has a cumulative effect. My personal reaction is that it was at
the very least in terribly bad taste.

You do know that the voice you heard wasn't the clown in the mask, right? The banned-for-life rodeo clown in the mask was in the arena, not on a microphone.

quote:

My general view of rodeo clowns is that they are in bad taste enough(and lame enough) without bringing Stepin Fetchit
imagery into their acts.
I think any rodeo clown I've ever seen gave off a vibe of rancor mixed with self loathing. Perhaps that's why Glenn Beck metaphorically identifies as one.
But I can't say that I think this man should be banned forever from performing from state fairs.

Where was the "Stepin Fetchit" imagery? Where? You can bring all that bullshit in, but you'll be called on it. I called out farglebargle for his "blackface" BS. Where was there any "Stepin Fetchit" imagery?

The Washington Post article mentions the lip thing.
It also quotes the announcers lawyer as saying it was
the clown that was speaking. If the lip thing happened
I have no problem in putting it under the umbrella of
Stepin Fetchit. I was also speaking in a general sense,
broader than this incident as in if a rodeo clown brought
actions into his performance that have racist overtones.

No need to get aggressive, Desi.

What an amazing and disgusting crock of horseshit! The IRS targeting people based on ideology? A filmmaker locked in prison because he made a movie that was disliked overseas? Chronic unemployment as the new norm? 47 million Americans needing food stamps to feed their families?

If President Obama wasn't black, with a corps of ignorant, loudmouth, vile, shitheads to scream, "racism" at every breath of criticism, he would be making Bush's approval numbers look glowing by comparison.

You sicken me.

Your party is so full of race baiting scumbags that you don`t know how to deal......

They used a Bush mask in '94. Where was the outrage?
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3054432/posts
It's about a third of the way down.

btw. Wouldn't it be funny as shit if the bull had been named "O'Brahma"?

The only thing that would be cool about this would be if Obama invited the guy to the WH to chill with a beer and laugh about it.

A fine pun, but one that you need to know at least a tiny snippet about foreign (hoch! ptooie!) cultures and (worse still) religions to find funny, I'd have thought.
I'm not saying that anybody at the fair was so ill informed they wouldn't get that reference, but it's a fair bet that'd be the attitude the organisers and ents board who put it together have towards them. That's the nice thing about plain folks if you're an arsehole: condescending to them makes you feel clever and superior, however poorly informed and half educated you happen to be yourself.

Or a person could just not be totally ignorant about livestock and be aware that a very common breed of rodeo bull is the Brahma.
If one were to go all foreign culturish, the proper word is "Brahmin"
Of course, all we non ignorant people know that don't we?

I'm not sure if the two cattle breeds are connected in any way, but the Brahmah bull is named after the Hindu sacred cow, which is sacred to a God called Brahmah. "Brahmin" is derived from the same root, as obviously high caste people are more Godly than the underclassmen.

It is the same breed.
In the US, they are a popular rodeo bull because of their size, speed and strength.

The ones who don't make it there are eaten.

Much healthier than the situation in India, then.
