FR Wouldn't it be an interesting twist if the particular weapon used turns out to be something the US sold to Iraq?

There already is a World Court. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Court_of_Justice The USA is not a participant: "After the court ruled that the U.S.'s covert war against Nicaragua was in violation of international law (Nicaragua v. United States), the United States withdrew from compulsory jurisdiction in 1986." same source ETA: One of the main reasons for it ineffectiveness is that cases can only be referred by States, or the UN ie it is subject to political processes. The Court should have the power to initiate its own cases. BTW if you don't know about Nicaragua and the 'dirty war' there, best you check it out.

Now, if I were a Syrian on the ground and saw a bit of, say, shell casing, I might - taking the proper safety precautions, natch - be tempted to hide it so that I could give to, say, a visiting UN inspection team. Said team would then be wise to keep quiet about it till it had left the country. Well, maybe. But I do feel that we could become much clearer about this atrocity over the next few days.

It shouldn't matter who did it because it's none of the US government's business. What is their business is US citizens. Why aren't US tax dollars being spent here at home? That's what governments of other developed countries do because they actually care about their own citizens.

It would remove enforcement from the political games played at the UN. Tweak, I wasn't referring to (you) specifically, correct you havn't suggested that this is a U.S. responsibility. I really don't think it's anyone else's "responsibility." If Australia were having a civil war I don't think anyone would want to see a million Chinese troops there. Or any other country for that matter.
