Best cake?
Short skirt/long jacket is pretty good.

So are 10,000 bills-that's some nice cake there

Otherwise, blackbottom cheesecake. If we're talking traditional cakes, black forest w/coconut topping

Her father doesn't like chocolate, which is a shame, I never met a chocolate cake I didn't like.

I love German chocolate, b/c I love the chocolate *with* the coconut.

Yum.

To me sacher is awfull it's so sweet that after two bites I just can't stand, but while I love a dark choccolate bar I tend to dislike the derived goods.

Carrot cake! I like that better than chocolate myself.

I prefer some combination of strong flavors... Black Forest Cake

Use Kirsch cherries... the contrast of the sour alcoholic cherries with the sweet cake body and fluffy buttercream with dark chocolate grated on gives a taste explosion in every bite.

Well I would have suggested chocolate with peanut butter frosting which is my favorite but you said he doesn't like chocolate.

How about a pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting? Yummy.

Some of my other favorites are angel food cake with just a light whipped cream frosting, or a strawberry shortcake or the the classic standby....a traditional thick Italian cheesecake.

It's my Dad's birthday. He claims to not have a favourite type of cake. What shall I make?

He isn't a fan of chocolate cake (chocolate chips or decorations are ok) and I only have two hours alone time to make it. It can take longer than that, but I will have a toddler with me the rest of the day so can't do anything delicate with her around.

Athena....as a man, I can tell you, anything homemade is a gift from Heaven.

As a Dad...see above :)

Honestly hon....it could taste like shit....if you made it....it's golden.

:)

Athena - is there something that reminds you of him? Did he make something for you when you were a little girl? Is there something he tells a story about? If it were my grandfather, I'd make him biscuits ... when i was a little girl that's what he'd make for me. For my grandmother? Pumpkin pie. One of my strongest memories is of my grandmother baking pumpkin pie. For my good friend, apple brown Betty. I don't think you have to stick to CAKE specifically.

Please let us know what you decide.

Best,
sunshine

I LOVE that song! So yes, thank you!

PS: Do you know what movie it's featured in?

(Sorry for slight hijack...but it's still Cake, yes? )

When I was still a kid, I made my Dad a cake for his birthday - chocolate with white frosting (my favorite). It looked like a disaster...leaning to one side, the top trying not to slide off but giving in anyway...one cut and it kinda all crumbled...

He was freaking elated. Beaming, laughing, and loved it.

We try to make something perfectly special for people we love, and what we forget sometimes is that the FACT that we tried to make something perfectly special for them...well...makes it perfectly special.

I saw a picture of a caramel glazed apple bundt cake recently that was awesome. I need to find a recipe for it.
