Apocalypso, are you friends with any feminists?

Yes. Funnily enough, they believe in equality and don't promote violence against men.

So they aren't the straw feminists from your head I'm afraid.

Check the other thread. It has now been pointed out that you couldn't have seen the video in question on television a few days ago, because it hadn't been released.

Yes, of course, my eyes must have been playing tricks when I have clearly seen it around twice in free to air tv here just in the past week. But just because someone claims it hadn't been released, well my eyes are wrong. My bad.

I asked you this question because you said this:

quote:

If a woman came on here and constantly whined about how the evil menz were holding here down she'd be mocked.

What? hold on here, in a nutshell, feminism is simply about complaining, right? If there are no women's issues, what is the existence of feminism?

Do you think feminist leaders complain more than me?

Do you think people who take women's studies classes complain more than me?

Do you think people who hang in feminist spaces complain more than me?

Do you have respect for these people?

So how can you be two faced and respect a person who self labelled themselves as someone from a movement that is simply about complaining, complaining, complaining, complaining, oh and complaining. Not to mention, these feminists you respect support and like the feminist leaders who give them these feminist theories. These feminist leaders would complain a million times more than me.

So here you are disliking me for the amount of complaining I do while ignoring a huge elephant in the room.

Gotta larf

MsMJAY -> RE: Anti-lads’ mags – and anti-people (8/29/2013 6:37:19 PM)

I thought the biggest stink you make about a petty issue, the worse it makes one look. The more whiny it makes one look. The more pathetic it makes one look.

Actually no. One person looks whiny. A thousand consumers or registered voters with their lawyer standing beside them looks dangerous.

We see these types of topics repeatedly all the time in forums.

And not everyone (especially not YOU) agrees with the OP of those topics.

So if they just rant about their opinions about these issues on a forum and aren't actually doing anything to change it, does the same standard apply to them? Or is there only an isolated standard when its a man complaining about male issues?

If the only thing a person (male or female) is going to do is bitch about it, not vote, not write letters, not join a movement, not donate money..... NOTHING but talk about it, then they are perfectly welcome to rant about it in the appropriate forum, but they have no right to expect anyone to agree with them or take them seriously about wanting to see change. Because the first question is always going to be "what are YOU doing about it?"

Can you see why I don't take such diversion tactics seriously when the same standard doesn't apply for people complaining about anything else in the world?

Trust me your real problem is that people very well ARE applying the same standard. This is EXACTLY how women are treated when they first begin to raise awareness about an issue that is important to them. Until women show that the issue is more than an isolated or rare event they generally get ridiculed. The only thing people asked you to do in the last topic was prove that the one song by an unknown was not an isolated or rare even and you left in a tizzy.

Well either YOU or the ARTIST is not being truthful. She said on her Facebook page that it was finally released THIS MORNING. And not on TV, but on a website. So it has NEVER been on TV. She's posting on her FB page right now about haters harassing her about it.

Her Quote:"On of my proudest moments is here. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you "The Glock Song" presented this morning by Jezebel.
Luv ya xo :)"

Now really, whom are you gonna trust: the primary source or some dude on the Net?

And please consider laying off the caps. Shouting seldom encourages folks to take a poster seriously.

So making a huge noise and exaggerating the problem as for going mental on the streets over it is considered minor, in the ways of being whiny, compared to just simply making a topic about it on a forum because that's what forums are for. Forums are meant for making topics about something that you either agree or disagree with. Forums are for discussion basically. I am using a forum for what it's for and yet, you and others are trying to tell me that I shouldn't be entitled to this.

It's all okay to make complaints about any other world issue of course, like what we are seeing everywhere in this sub forum. You are in total denial about the double standard, aren't you?

Your logic seems to be way bent out of shape.

quote:

but they have no right to expect anyone to agree with them or take them seriously about wanting to see change. Because the first question is always going to be "what are YOU doing about it?"

I certainly don't expect everyone to agree with me. After all, I believe today's political correctness and social standards in the matter of gender issues is heavily in favour of women. It's 100 percent socially acceptable to complain about female issues while it makes a man a social outcast to complain about male issues.

People seem to have terrible difficultly in understanding what equality/equal treatment truly is.

That said, can you please cite me where and how often people are asked in this forum "what are you doing about it" when they complain about an issue in the world? I've never seen it once said to anyone else but me.

It's not like I have some magic wand that enables me to stop this woman from having that video available for the world. It's utterly ridiculous and extremely stupid to place the responsibility and blame on me for someone else's bad behaviour. The only person who should be to blame and place responsibility on here is the woman who created the song. But due to female favouritism, that logic won't get acknowledged. It's all the fault of the menz.

quote:

Trust me your real problem is that people very well ARE applying the same standard.

As I asked earlier, show me where in this forum that this is happening.

quote:

She said on her Facebook page that it was finally released THIS MORNING

Released by Jezebel? But the past week or less, I've seen it on free to air TV in Australia.

quote:

She's posting on her FB page right now about haters harassing her about it

Are the feminists who protest against lad mags haters too? Or is there a double standard once again?

In the youtube comments, people were saying ridiculous shit like that the men who are against this video don't respect women.

WTF? So a woman or feminist who appear against such media that indicates violence against women and thinks it's funny, it must mean they don't respect men.

It never ceases to amaze me how such ludicrous attitudes are given a pass when it's in favour of women while if such attitudes exist when its in favour of men, OMG misogyny!

No wonder why I don't take the claim of "male privilege" seriously.

Woman shoots men in the penis and it's humour. But if men shoot women in the vulva, it will most likely be deemed as misogyny. And women are the underclass? ahahahahaha

stef -> RE: Anti-lads’ mags – and anti-people (8/29/2013 11:43:18 PM)

I don't see anyone here who thinks that video is humorous. General consensus appears to be that it's pathetic, much like your repeated attempts to rally your pet cause around it.

You will clearly see in the youtube comments that people find it humorous, therefore, men shouldn't be complaining. Only the haters are complaining.

Never seen all the movies were violence against women were seen as comedy? Airplane comes quickly to mind. The scene where everyone lines up to slap the lady?

naughtynick81 -> RE: Anti-lads’ mags – and anti-people (8/30/2013 12:12:52 AM)

One isolated video from the 80s about slapping? lol

Not to mention, can you cite where it has been classed as humorous in media to mutilate a woman's genitals?

At this modern age, it's even humorous when it's not in a movie or tv show. It's even humorous when it happens in real life.

A mainstream TV show with an audience laughing along with it.

Okay.

I'm happy to condemn these feminists for being condescending, narrow-minded, not backing up their claims with evidence, and generally portraying their gender as victims.

I'm happy to condemn you for the very same reasons.

You're incorrect. Off of the top of My head:

* Complaints about fake profiles on the site when I've asked folks if they are reporting those profiles.

* People who have complained about issues in their local BDSM community but don't make the issues know to the DM on duty or the host of the event.

* People who have complained how hard it is to find someone using online only but refuse to make the effort to go to a munch. (How anybody on this site could have missed that, I'll never know.)

* The poster who, for approximately eighteen months, in every original thread that he started complained about how 'wrong' it was that he had been fired from his previous job, but for a very long time he would do nothing about his depression.

* Countless cases of people who complained about being miserable in their relationships, yet didn't want to leave the situation.

I'm actually really big on what people are actively doing, so I can promise you that it's not a singular occurrence. Just because it's not all in Politics and Religion doesn't mean it doesn't exits.

As to the original. I hadn't read anything about this until it was being discussed in the other thread earlier today. I found the article that tazzy had sited a quote from and I've also read the link that you posted in the OP.

Even in the article you listed, those folks are actually doing something about the cause they believe in. They are doing the letter writing, the protesting, etc that shows they are putting their concerns into action. In My mind, that is more than just complaining because they aren't *just* complaining.

From what I'm reading, it isn't one issue that is listed in your article. It's two. The other being that the magazines have come under fire for the covers being inappropriate for open view of all ages. We had the same here in the United States decades ago and magazines like Hustler and Playboy couldn't be displayed on the front rack unless certain conditions were met. The link that I read specifically said the covers would change.

quote:

Highly explicit front covers of "lads' mags" may be a thing of the past, Tesco said on Friday, after the country's biggest retailer responded to pressure from campaigners and customers and demanded action from publishers of the controversial magazines.

Zoo, Nuts and Front have agreed to make their covers "more modest", the retailer said – meaning no more nudity, with less salacious coverlines and a more conservative feel.

They must have had enough support for that issue to get that kind of change from the publisher.

How about at least more than one example at this modern age where it's classed as "humorous" to kick a woman up the vulva or damage her vulva one way or the other in mainstream media entertainment?

naughtynick81 -> RE: Anti-lads’ mags – and anti-people (8/30/2013 12:28:08 AM)
