So would folks prefer that the President act without consulting Congress? Or not act at all?

Not act at all...provided the conflict stays within Syrian borders.

I want us to stay the hell out of it, DC.

I'll be composing my letters to the California Senators tomorrow (for all the good they'll do with those two )

I think his actions are too much, too little too late.

President Obama has been all over the map throughout the entire "Arab Spring" movement and its after math and it seems, since he now seems like he was never willing to back it up, that his "line in the sand" about Syria's use of Chemical Weapons was of his worst mistakes as President.

So what the hell could he have done with any of the 'Arab Spring' situations, short of a general ramps-down invasion? (Been there, done that, got the sack cloth and ashes.) You Rightie foamers need to realize that there are limits to what any president can do in a mess like this, and he is, perforce, winging it with the best of 'em. So why don't you put your bigotry back in your pants and give Obama a little cred for trying to shovel against the tide, eh?

YOU couldn't do any better.

Thank you for re-posting this, Johnny.

I would prefer that we not use our miltary, at all, in a civil war, considering how well that's worked out for us in the past.

I would like to take this opportunity to do something that I don't think I've ever been able to do, before:

I would like to commend the president for the fact that he seems (and I stress that word because I know we've already had ground troops in Syria since my son was killed there) to be going about this next step in the crisis the correct, constitutional way.

For the first time that I can remember, he's acting more like a president than a monarch.

Regards,

John Adams

Don't worry, Hillary Clinton will get her chance to be President, when she is elected President in 2016.

I wonder if the President had any idea on what he was expected to do before he decided to derail Mrs Clinton from her Presidency???

I did vote for Obama twice and I have few regrets. I will say though Yachtie, that "lean forward" poster you have on your avatar is actually quite funny.

Yeah, but if I lived within a bus ride of the lobby, I'd make up for it... Until they banned me from the premises, anyway.

You're welcome. And I'm sorry to hear about your son. You have my most sincere condolences.

I also agree with you that the President is taking the appropriate path by going to Congress. Whether he's required to or not shouldn't matter to anyone. The fact is that this decision is important enough to warrant the Congress having the opportunity to express their thoughts. This is how responsible leadership is done. But I'm only giving him 9 out of 10 since this also seems to have been a last minute thought instead of a modus operandi.

It's almost like someone's opinion changes based solely on opposing whatever the President does.

I think the United States really has no horse in this race and would be best served sitting it out or at best beefing up Israel's defenses. However,, should the President call a joint session of Congress and asked them to declare war, and should Congress vote to do so, I would firmily support the President and the war effort.

Well... is he calling for a joint session of Congress and asking them to declare war on Syria?

Please... speak right up?

I didn't think so.

If the President does that and the nation declares war, I shall support the war effort.

Why is that so hard for you to understand?

However, the President isn't doing anything of the sort.

They also had something to say about creating a Capitol City. See Residence Act of 1790 and An Act Concerning the District of Columbia 1801.

Maryland would be more than willing to get her land back and the tax revenues that go with it though...and then Washington, MD would have it's voting members of Congress.

Thank you for your condolences, Johnny.

On another subject that's popped up: People that live in New Jersey and work in NYC have been taxed for about 25 years in NYC. No one seems to be up in arms over that.

Just more unmitigated partisan bullshit. Better he lie through his teeth to the American people, get Kerry to lie to the UN like Bush and we send 500,000 troops hey ? I am sure it would be berry, berry profitable. The US is after Bush...a war economy now.

Who wants to join up and protect 'our' interests in Syria ? You all just still don't get it do you ? He's been told to intervene, so, he will intervene, Congress will vote it down, then they will vote for intervention.
