So...

In this poll a racist is defined as someone who thinks that someone with another skin color by definition is either superior or inferior to himself.

By non-USA American is meant anyone who is not a USA citizen.

Of course people who are in denial of being a racist cannot be expected to answer that they are racist, but for reasons of completeness I added the two in-denial options nevertheless.

I am just wondering whether there is a difference between USA Americans and people from other parts of the world, and whether there is a difference between males and females.

For my definition of racism in the context of this poll see my first post; that definition does not mention nationality anywhere.

With four replies thus far, it is becoming clear that most respondents (75 %) are USA Americans.

I'm reading Subliminal by Leonard Mlodinow. It's about the unconscious mind. I'm convinced many of us make unconscious stereotypes about race, gender, age, physical appearance, etc. without being aware. I picked "I'm in denial about being a racist" because that option was the closest to describing what I believe is actually true for most people's minds.

Using your narrow definition of racism I have voted for the "I am a USA American female and I am not a racist" category. But....

I'm not sure of the whole purpose of your poll, but it seems to me that "racism" as a construct is a more layered one that your definition and is not restricted only to the concept of "inferiority/superiority". I think there are more nuances to racism than that, and as a result I think all peoples, of whatever background, are, in fact, racist in some way, shape or form. The more important issue is whether or not that inherent racism results in actual discriminatory treatment or behavior towards others (either positively or negatively). For example, I know many people who treat people of all backgrounds, races, religions, etc. with tremendous respect and kindness, but who prefer to marry within their race/ethnicity even controlling for religion. In other words, for example, a liberal white Catholic who would prefer to marry a white Catholic, even though there are Catholics of every ethnicity and racial background. Does anyone really believe that there is such a thing as being completely neutral about race? Do certain exclusions and treatments seem more valid than others even though they still reflect a "the other race is different" mentality? I don't know the answers. I'm just positing that racism is complicated as a construct.

I am not interested in the billion nuances of racism, nor in actual behavior. This poll singles out only one of those nuances: the one defined in the opening post.

By analogy: when I am studying the paw of a horse, neither am I interested in the paws of the billions of other animal species. I hope this example by analogy clarifies the purpose of the poll.

We're all equal, apart from minor physical differences that are usually irrelevant but occasionally come up in a medical context - people with dark skin need a bit more dietary or supplemented vitamin D to make up for their lower production, and people with light skin are more susceptible to severe sunburn.

What a ridiculous poll. My Nephew (who is mixed race and loves both of his parents equally) calls his white friends the 'N' word. Is HE racist?

i am an american and im not a racist... i cant be otherwise i would not love my children cause they are mixed.... all races in america are american so it should be worded differently imho
