ORIGINAL: mnottertail But what part of 'Reality' don't 'conservatives' understand? They are borrowing and spending at massively destructive levels. With medical costs at a ridiculous amount now, Obamacare is not the answer! Well, it is true that single-payer would probably be a much better way of controlling costs. Countries that take that approach manage to cover everyone at half the cost of the US, and have longer life expectancies and lower infant mortality rates. Any proof that starting where we are right now and adding in singlepayer would result in where they are now? No? Obamacare was partially a response to the high dollar amount we are spending in health care. http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=4550520 Here, I broke down some stuff, made a couple assumptions, and showed that we are already spending more in public dollars than everyone else. The CBO just came out with a report showing that spending is expected to rise to almost 20% of GDP by 2022 (total, not just public spending). And, we still won't have universal coverage (93.1% coverage in 2022; leaving approx. 30M people uninsured; up from 85.3% in 2011). How are we going to cut costs in half while adding more people/services into the mix?
