Water is good for you... we all know this. If somewhere, someone hidden under a rock is now tempted to try it, great! Lol

Really??

I hate water. I can't stand the stuff.
I have a good memory and I can remember as far back to before I was three years old and the only time I can remember drinking water it made me vomit. Even today, if I get an upset stomach, rather than take any meds, I drink water to make me throw up and I feel better.
That said, I also tend to avoid soda's too - too fizzy and full of artificial crap.

If the President (or First Lady) came out and argued breathing fresh air is good for your body; conservatives would come out stating dirty and contaminated air is better for the body.

Actually, there's more truth to this than you might think.
If we lived in a pure sterile world, we wouldn't develop immunity to many diseases and ailments.
In a dirty, contaminated, environment, our body would naturally build defenses against many things.

Good work on the references, Dom. Isn't it wonderful how the Talking Heads pile on when the Administration says anything, even something as innocent as encouraging people to drink water? (NOT soda, SubRob, just good ol' H2O, just like the Good Lord gave us) That bit about water has been around longer than I have - drink 8 glasses a day, they said when I was in grade school, fer fuck's sake. You might think they're funny, Dom, but to me they're simply tiring.

Yea, they taught us 8 glasses a day also. Of course that was 40 years ago. In my last biology class 2 years ago the teacher showed us studies that have come out since that contradict that theory. My human diseases teacher also touched on the subject and said the same thing. But hey, don't let facts get in the way of opening your mind a bit. Just follow what the talking heads say and you will be fine.

If that was taught in your class then it would not be too difficult to link us to the source.

FR,

IIRC a 6-7% solute concentration was shown to be absorbed faster than plain water. This was the basis for sports drinks being pushed as rehydration tools. IIRC, it has been shown more recently, that Gatorade and other "electrolyte replacement" beverages aren't necessary unless you are an athlete and are training rigorously.

What is really funny, though, is that if anyone questions the science behind First Lady Obama's push, they are automatically against that push.

The writer of the article in the OP is ridiculously partisan.

Oh come on now, thought anyone who questioned the current regime or didn't have blinders on were cons???

At the end of the day, we are talking about drinking water. If theres sheeple out there, that need to be told what to consume or not to, and they choose to, well that's on them. Its their body. The guberment (moochelle included) has no right to dictate what we do or do not put into our bodies.

With that said, I don't think that's what she's doing... I think she's just trying to feel "useful" after her lunch program failed.

What is this, a public service anouncement on Obama's part?
Everyone knows that you should keep yourself properly hydrated. Especially when you go to the gym like I'm going to do in about 20 minutes or playing sports, or working or in high temps.
What's the next gem out of the W.H.; "We're $17 trillion in debt but children shouldn't play with matches or walk around with their shoes untied, have a nice day!"
"Vladimir Putin made my husband look like an absolute *ASSHOLE* but look both ways before you cross the street!"
"Gasoline is $3.60 a gallon but make sure you properly inflate your tires."
Fucking pathetic!

The First Lady recommended that children drink one more glass of water per day. So that is the relevant amount under discussion not the4 crazy shit cons made up.

It would benefit you to reflect on the First Law of Holes. You are misrepresenting facts again. Nobody has objected to drinking one more glass of water a day. What provoked raised eyebrows was the First Lady's claim that water is an "energy drink," and the advice implicit in her recounting of the First Family's experience that "the more water we drank, the better we felt."

Kirata, don't you always seek medical advice from a disbarred former lawyer?

A really absurd argument that you are making. Water does give much in the way of energy. A good understanding of what the human body is composed of, would tell you that without water, our bodies would simply not operate at all. What happens to the human body when its without water for six hours? It tends to degrade in ability. And after twelve? Headaches, nausea, weakness of limbs. How about twenty-four hours? Take what happens after 'twelve hours' and amplify it by a factor of eighteen. After thirty-six hours? The person is laying on the ground and near death. Go ahead, B.S. to someone that teaches (and does) survival. Without water, the body wears down, makes dumb mistakes (leading to further problems) and dies without a good supply of fresh, clean water. Yes, water gives energy and can be considered an energy drink.

Now, combined OTHER chemicals with H2O has led to a new type of drink people have dubbed an 'energy drink'. I believe the First Lady and most 'sane', 'intelligent' and 'reasonable' people can understand the difference. The same as people can understand that while a pound of feathers verse rocks have several different attributes, but they BOTH weigh one pound.

Ridiculous argument. energy drink means something in the vernacular. You don't get to make up what you think it means.

By this argument, air is an energy drink .. because the body "dies without a good supply". Ditto food and shelter.

Energy drinks are characterized by high calories (energy) as well as high concentrations of stimulants (caffeine) and things with promote blood sugar levels (B12 etc).

Water does none of these things.

And since we're on the subject of a pound of feathers.. which weighs more - a pound of feathers or a pound of gold?
