jlf1961 -> Kera updates (9/25/2013 11:48:58 AM)

I started this in another thread, but it no longer seems appropriate to put these there.

Yesterday, she let us know she has a voice, no barking but what I call dog mumbles. This morning, she was quite vocal and decided to sing for us, it was outside thankfully, but her howl was just great to here.

She is playing with our other dogs, she enjoys getting attention from my 20 month old great nephew and has decided that my bed is hers.

So have you been demoted to a dog bed then?

Seriously, I'm glad she's integrating into the household so well.

Here she is today

Nice looking wolf hybrid. How's she healing?

jlf1961 -> RE: Kera updates (9/26/2013 5:09:32 AM)

This is the worst bullet wound, I took this yesterday to send to the shelter. If I had not been told the vet found bullet fragments... It is a miracle that it did not shatter anything.

The round had to be spent or a very small caliber.

Some idiot with an air gun maybe.

unlikely,two wounds if I remember right.
Air rifles that are pumped need time between shots to get nuff power to knock through flesh.
Unless the pup pup waited patiently to be shot twice
The ones that are powered by co2 don't have nearly as much power(in the lower price ranges anyway)
most likely a 22(able to spit out 2 more shots quick nuff to catch a running dog),or it's some other kind of injury completely,like if the dog jumped a barb wire fence and got it's leg caught on the way,ect.

hlen5 -> RE: Kera updates (9/26/2013 10:07:19 AM)

I thought maybe she was shot on separate occasions. I'm very glad she's feeling well enough to sing!!

Ken the vet pulled bullet fragments out of both wounds. I am thinking a 22 short maybe

I will be posting more pics in the tomorrow. Suffice it to say that Kera has come to an agreement with my other wolf hybrid, Princess is boss. She also has gotten used to our walks in the early morning, which is getting fun since she likes to stop and bark and howl at a local colony of prairie dogs.

yourdarkdesire -> RE: Kera updates (9/28/2013 11:13:27 PM)

Bless you jft, for taking Kera into your heart and home. I hope her recovery continues smoothly. xx

ShaharThorne -> RE: Kera updates (9/28/2013 11:26:31 PM)

I fear it might not be a foster deal. Can Princess deal with her since she has ingratiated herself in the household?

I would love to take her but Mom makes the rules...no fleas, no canines...our neighbor's dog is the only one around here.

jlf1961 -> RE: Kera updates (9/29/2013 9:41:29 AM)

Kera this morning, AFTER I was rudely informed with bounces and nudges that I was finished sleeping and Kera wanted my bed.

Looks like someone chewed a pillowcase.

Don't you worry about having wolf hybrids with the toddler?

I would be.

I would be careful with any dog around a toddler. A hybrid that wasn't aggressive when injured is probably as reliable as any other dog.

DesFIP -> RE: Kera updates (9/29/2013 2:14:20 PM)

She is so adorable.

If it wasn't so far, I'd offer to adopt her. Except I already know wolf hybrids are illegal in NY.

Personally, I'm not a believer in letting dogs on the furniture unless specifically invited. That's what dog beds are for.

If anything, she and my other wolf hybrid is very protective of Damian.

I have never kept dogs off the furniture, except for the dinning table. Kera will not sleep on a bed at night, so she sleeps by my door and blu sleeps under the covers next to me.

DesFIP -> RE: Kera updates (9/30/2013 7:54:30 PM)

Weren't you the one who said only one pillow on a bed? Seems like there are more than that on yours. And no fair blaming the dogs for bringing them all in, you've been found out!

The extra pillows are there because my great nephew likes to come in and watch music videos when it is his bed time. Because he has been diagnosed with asthma and he has allergies, not to the dogs but to the weeds that are being cut, dug, and otherwise removed from the "yard" part of the property.

The extra pillows are to prop him up when he is in my room.

So I have learned that the extra pillows have a use. Kera uses a couple of the older pillows to lay her head on at night when she insists on sleeping on the floor, Blu uses one to sleep on, after I make sure the covers are pulled up (he is more demanding than Damian.) Actually, Damian gets the covers situated for himself.

And there are occasions when I use a couple of them to elevate my knee (family wont let me get a DIY knee repair tool at Home Depot.)
