Instead of showing critical missing children bulletins, the federal Amber Alert website on Sunday displayed a sparse, white screen with a simple message... "Due to the lapse in federal funding, this Office of Justice Programs (OJP) website is unavailable," ~NBC
 
In other news, the golf course at Andrews Air Force Base where Obama plays golf is being maintained.

Joyce Spencer is 77-years-old and her husband Ralph is 80. They've been spending most of their time in the family ice cream store since going home isn't an option. The Spencers never expected to be forced out of their Lake Mead home, which they've owned since the 70s, but on Thursday, a park ranger said they had 24 hours to get out. ~KYNV

It's fine to oppose cuts to SNAP, and I'm not saying that this comment necessarily applies to you. But both the Republican majority House and the Democrat controlled Senate have proposed cuts to SNAP. It's pure partisan bullshit for people to cry about "starving children" when the Republicans propose them, and remain silent when the Democrats do.

Have the democrats threatened to shutdown the federal government to impose the cuts they suggested?





One of the worst aspects of this looming disaster is the depraved indifference of those imposing it on those that`ll suffer.

Blocking access to trails and programs at South Dakota’s most popular attraction was one thing, but state officials didn’t expect Congress’ budget stalemate to shut down a view of Mount Rushmore.

The National Park Service placed cones along highway viewing areas outside Mount Rushmore this week, barring visitors from pulling over and taking pictures of the famed monument.

The cones first went up Oct. 1, said Dusty Johnson, Gov. Dennis Daugaard’s chief of staff. The state asked that they be taken down, and federal officials did so with some of them. The state was told the cones were a safety precaution to help channel cars into viewing areas rather than to bar their entrance.

“I think reasonable people can disagree about that,” Johnson said.


So the overlook, or whatever, was coned off but not to bar entrance to the overlook or whatever. Boggles the mind it does.
