Not at all! They already have the kit, and as soon as enough people report the profile as fake, it disappears. I doubt yours would work any better if programmed with the same parameters as the existing code.

If you reported some profiles that you ran a reverse photo search on, why didn't you just hide those profiles so that you wouldn't see them again?

Good, that's smart.

Since so many of you seem to be taking the "attractive" part personally, it has nothing to do with you. Sex sells, and pretty girls sell sex best, so spammers use pictures of women that generally fall into the category of broadly attractive. It's not personal, it's greed backed yet successful marketing based on tried and true practices. It's worked for millennia and it will continue to work in the future.

Because I refuse to do repetitive sisyphean tasks. I write software to do that for me.

There are anti-spam heuristics that have been around for literally decades that can solve this problem with greater than 80% accuracy and almost no false positives.

What I am asking here is, why are they not being utilized?

Tell me again exactly how we know for a fact that everyone behind the scenes of this site is a volunteer? I'm calling bullshit on that. Also, being a volunteer is no excuse for doing a half-assed job. This place was screwed-up for weeks after that last time it crashed. There is clearly a profit motive at work here so maybe it's time CM hired some professionals.

And as to the original complaint: It is in their best interest to allow/encourage the fakes & scammers as it increases the member count - which is how they base the ad rates. More users = more ads = more money for the owner (and not a penny for those hard-working volunteers).

I'm trying to have a serious discussion as to why the site operators choose not to utilize existing, thoroughly-tested technology that has been around almost as long as computers to improve the quality of their site by nixing the profiles that are so obviously fake that people are meta-fed-up-with-them.

And I'm being trolled by people with some unknown combination of poor reading comprehension and insecurities for my troubles....

OK, I will concede that 'all' should be 'a lot'. And the volunteers are doing the best they can - if you want things to improve, why not message Alpha and volunteer your services? I'm sure she'd be happy to consider you. Perhaps you could also ask her about the cost implications to the site if she was to hire more professionals. Not a snark - an honest suggestion. Maybe she'll say it's a good idea, maybe not. But you never know unless you ask.

Because I'm not going to contribute my software engineering skills to a for-profit site for free.

I know it's a good idea because it is literally my profession to solve these kinds of problems.

I'm doing something wrong then. I've never had to hide any single profile here more than once.

There are two problems here. One is that you really can't prove the "fakeness" of any particular profile. Even when you find a picture that comes from somewhere else, you have no 100% guarantee that it's not that person. That's why they don't allow you to have any photo removed from the site unless you can prove that it is your own.

The second problem is that you are going about this in the wrong way. While any discussion can happen on the forums that doesn't violate the guidelines or ToS, what you are doing right now is the equivalent to complaining to fellow customers at a store, rather than taking your complaint to customer service or the owner of the establishment. Fellow forum members don't have any more power than you do to change anything about how the site works. The person who gets the final say on that is the owner(s) of the site. That would be who you need to contact.

Status: offline 		As my mom told me years ago, "you get what you pay for." Since we don't pay to use the site, we have to put up with some inconveniences. That said, all the fakes on here are a pain, and they are getting worse.

Advertisers pay by the number of members, so I suspect that the operators aren't in too much of a hurry to out fakes. As the original poster said, it would be easy enough to do if they really wanted to.
