This has nothing to do with a potential shutdown. This is all due to Liberal thinking to give everybody, everything, the hell with the cost!

And yet you ignore the actual reality posted not two posts above yours. After all the rhetoric is done, it is the Democratic party that wants to raise taxes and cut costs and the Republican party which wants to do the opposite.

It's just when I personally want to trim a budget I do not start out with the nickels and dimes. I look at the heavy hitters right up front. And in the US, "heavy hitter" means "military". Conversely, raising taxes on poor people is an idiot's play. If you need more revenue you need to go to the folks who actually have money... that'd be the rich folks.

Is there some part of that very sound fiscal strategy that eludes you? Don't get me wrong, I know and understand the economic war that is being wages against the US. Heck, it's nothing more than we've been doing to other countries for a long time, the only difference being we are on the losing end this time because the Republicans have gutted our economy..

girl4man -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:01:31 PM)

You're just wrong.

100% wrong.

If we don't raise the debt limit, it just means we don't spend money on everything we wanted to spend it on.

Instead of paying for new construction or maintenance, we forego that, and pay the due debt payments instead.

Households do this all the time. They want a new suit but have no cash. The credit card company won't increase their limit. They also have a credit card bill due on the 1st and instead of buying a new suit, they pay the credit card payment.

The idea that not raising the debt ceiling equates to not paying debt, is an idea which benefits those who want the government to spend more. But it's not accurate.

If you think it's accurate, then simple concepts elude you.

girl4man -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:03:03 PM)

Also, it is laughable, that anyone in the United States of America, thinks democrats want to cut expenses.

Sure, they'll gut the military any day of the week, but on the whole, without question, they favor one give-away after another.

Seriously, the amount of delusions the spenders indulge in.... breathtaking!

How do you plan to put out social security checks without borrowing, or active military or any retired government without borrowing?

How about the myriad government contracts we signed and that don't stop just because?

and so on?

girl4man -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:11:20 PM)

Well, every entity, whether it be an individual, a company, or a government, has to prioritize.

The federal government spends so lavishly, on so many things that the average person isn't familiar with, cutting it would actually cause little that can be described as hardship.

I forget the website with the federal budget on it. But do a net search and find it, and start reading it....

Just some examples that come to mind:

Grants to study habits of prostitutes in China;
$460,000 outhouses in some park out west (with no ppower, but a slate roof)
Obama phones (in this day and age, where cell phone charges have dropped like a rock)
SS disability, wherein certain law firms have a lock on obtaining it (think West Virginia) where the have 100% success in obtaining disability ($300k per claimant for life
20,000 fake refund checks ($46 million) to one home in Atlanta, georgia

I mean, seriously, wake up.

If anyone wanted to save money, there's billions of chances to do so.

Oh-Also, SS checks are prioritized in our society. They wouldn't need to be cut.

How would you do it in your household?

mnottertail -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:13:17 PM)

Reagan phones are now Obama phones?

Seriously, wake up.

The WR Grace commission under Reagan and the bipartisan whatever commission under Obama were summarily dismissed and ignored.

girl4man -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:14:42 PM)

Oh, yes, and the $80k spend on Pelosi's liquor on her plane, when she was Speaker.

Yep, $80 grand on liquor for a multimillionaire.

Cut out subsidies for ethanol - the fuel that takes more fuel to make than it produces. woo hoo!

Cut out farm subsidies to multimillionaires like Sam Donaldson.

I mean, anyone SERIOUS about reducing the budget has plenty to choose from.

But no one is actually serious.

girl4man -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:18:09 PM)

Reducing Obama's entourage, that would be good.

No one else on the planet - no foreign leader, that I'm aware of, travels with 200 or 300 people. I could see it when we were concerned about the USSR nuking us, but seriously, right now, we're on the verge of being a second-rate country.... Very pretentious.

The royals in England travel commercial as I understand it. OR most of them do.

Push back retirement age another year. That's a good one.

Get rid of Obamacare and sue the company that designed the website for a refund. it doesn't work. They have some splaining to do!

Then, make medical insurance premiums deductible for everyone from their income tax, and unlimited deductions for out of pocket medical costs. So much simpler than building a bureaucracy for medicine. Gee... A little imagination....

Look, I don't care whose phones they are. They're a giveaway we can't afford.

If we're serious about reducing the budget, then they have to go.

If we're serious.

Otherwise, it's all theatre, and we can just wait for the $1Trillion bill to be printed, ala hyperinflation like Zimbabwe. Then yuou'll need a wheelbarrow of dollar bills to buy bread.

Hey, I"m watching the circus. When it collapses, which it will because no one is serious, everyone just want to win points, I'll be ready. Forewarned is forearmed.

By the way, you won 2 points. Good for you!

mnottertail -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:21:37 PM)

But we could get rid of over half of our military since we dont need it or use it. We could outlaw corporations and wall street stock markets since they are a drain on our economy, we could get rid of the teabaggers who borrow and spend, we could reform campaign contributions, we could do lots of things.

And of course we could deal in facts instead of teabagging asswipe.

Got any Credible Factual Citations on that shit you said regarding at least these two?

girl4man -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:26:28 PM)

Oh, another good one, start selling primo federal land. They own a bunch in California that is worth BILLIONS, at LEAST. That would also put it on the tax rolls - that's a twofer!

Also, the next time some petulant veteran hating fool wants to punish combat vets, the feds wouldn't own it. Another twofer!

Also, to reduce spending on food stamps, get rid of the ebt cards and make them paper coupons again. As soon as a person has to pull those out to pay, they get uncomfortable, and work harder to get off of them. Right now, you never know, and they love that otherwise free money!!

P.S. My family used food stamps as a kid, and I remember how glad I was when we didn't need them anymore. So embarassing!

Okay, now you're not being serious again, you're just trying to score points. Illustrating my observation, that people don't seriously want to cut the budget, all they want to do is score rhetorical points.

Ah, America is doomed.

Great show, though! Always a silver lining!

girl4man -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:29:25 PM)

Although about the military- Europe should be pulling its own freight. I was in the Army in Germany. Absolutely, let the damn Germans defend their own damn turf.

South Korea, not sure, that's a pretty bad scene. Have to think about that one.

Again, it's prioritizing.

girl4man -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:30:47 PM)

Babe, I don't post links to facts. I'm watching the show, not directing it.

I already said you won your two points. Gosh! The more points, the better! More entertaining!

The trillion dollar bill will help no one. 10 of the 16 we owe to ourselves. What exactly without bullshit is the deal with these phones, and how much do they actually cost the taxpayers? Now, I think dumping the national parks is a good thing, saving money. Dumping a great deal of websites saves money, but then we are going to back pay everyone, and that came from the house, so I am unclear regarding what was actually saved.

We are in Germany as a hostage to our commitment. I don't really like it either, and there is a great deal of other things I don't like, the teabaggers funding the national azalea collection. Other stuff

girl4man -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:34:45 PM)

Babe, maybe my writing is just really piss poor.... When hyperinflation sets in, the GOVERNMENT prints $1 Trillion bills so banks can give them out, so people can buy things, like bread.

So, you will have in your billfold, instead of a twenty, a trillion dollar bill. Zimbabwe had this happen a few years ago.

"Hyperinflation" after WW1 (one, NOT WWii) is why the Germans are so determined not to inflate their currency. They drank the poison, and never again!

girl4man -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:37:46 PM)

"Hostage" to our "commitment." Well, we need to reexamine the commitment. Not sure, treaties are not my speciality, but I'm sure, IF WE WERE SERIOUS, we could change it.

And if we don't, so what? I'm here to watch the show. When America collapses financially, it's gonna be a helluva show! The Germans, then, won't have a choice..... LOL.

What a hoot!

But the muslims will have taken over, so, so what?

mnottertail -> RE: U.S. Default Seen as Catastrophe Dwarfing Lehman’s Fall (10/7/2013 2:38:06 PM)

We have 17 trillion in crap sitting out there now. What would bring hyperinflation upon us? The money velocity and demand is not there, and unlikely to be for our forseeable future, and I am talking at least 12 years.

Yeah, Brea, is that you? Or what invisible sock are you? It seems that you can rattle of jingos, but don't have much grounding in fact or any depth of knowledge, and not a drop of background, now are you in the states? Cuz you better have a look, you ain't just watching the show, you are in it just like everyone else here. You will not be singled out and saved from your doomsday.
