You are just DETERMINED to score points. Okay, you get another point!

Hoorah!

In the meantime, $17 T isn't our debt. It's over $100 T. Congress puts so many things "off budget." If the private sector did it, they'd be in prison. I'd love to be a senator!

The equation has more than money velocity. It's an equation. But hey, you reached your goal, and scored 3 points today. Give the man a prize!

I, too, think the comfort of Americans, ought to be completely beside the point. I love them reproducing at less than their replacement level. Americans are VILE!!!!

I really love the angst over the "debt ceiling". It is a completely artificial - and completely unconstitutional - invention of Congress. The 14th Amendment clearly states that all debts of the US government WILL be paid. There is no option for default. The real problem is that our president does not have the guts/stones/balls/whatever for a constitutional crisis/showdown.

As for the whole ACA "negotiation" nonsense, I'm with the president on this: There is nothing to negotiate. The ACA was passed by Congress and signed into law. It survived a challenge in the Supreme Court and has not been repealed in 40-some attempts. The Republicans and their Teabagger puppet masters need to get over it. They lost. Game over. Move on. If they really want to impact healthcare in this country they should work to improve the ACA. Instead, they continue to whine and cry like a 2yo who just heard "no" for the 1st time. We are quickly becoming a laugh-stock of a nation with this level of partisan bickering - in needed to end back in November.

Well, no it doesn't.

AMENDMENT XIV

SECTION 4.

The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any state shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

So, that is a fur piece from reality.

Uh, slavery was in the constitution, and the Supreme Court ordered its enforcement inthe Dred Scott decision.

The republicans didn't go along with that either. I do think maybe they went about that wrong, too.

As for law being law....

Uh, immigration law is law, but Obama keeps unilaterally changing it.

Obamacare is law, but Obama keeps changing it unilaterally.

Again, more point scoring.

Really, be better if we all went our own way, and then all you folks who want to point a gun at me and tell me what I have to do, would be gone.

Frankly, I'm over it. The U.S. of A. is dead. It was so much better when people lived in a wilderness, and the government was too distant and too weak to enforce its desire to be tyrannical.

And frankly, I don't care if anyone is a laughingstock. Just more point scoring.

What someone else thinks isn't relevant. Just another point to score.

The question is, what's right? But people who love government don't care. They're willing to point a gun at other people, and say, "Do what I tell you to do, or I'll kill you."

We haven't been free in decades. Maybe a century.

I'm pretty sick of people with their hands out, telling me how they're happy to shoot me if I don't give them everything I have.

But, hey, it's still great entertainment. Lots of drama. A sure hit!

If all you keep doing is trying to score points, then I know you're the least serious person in the room.

You have each revealed your true goal, and your actual priorities.

And calling a group of Americans "teabaggers." That is so insanely offensive - not to mention, rather inappropriately injects BDSM into a political discussion - that anyone that utters it, reveals how fundamentally they revile America - as she was conceived and carried on for 125 years.

I attend tea party events. You don't really join, per se. People just show up. I don't call my self a tea party "member." But I'm a veteran, I attended law school-- at what point do I deserve a non-sexually objectifying description of my sentiments?

Do I have to storm Iwo Jima? Oh, no-- that's right - that qualifies as less than being an illegal alien in the New World.

All who despise America, yet are "Americans," reveal the utter emptiness of their souls, and utter ingratitude for all the bounty they have received. There ought to be a demeaning word for THAT.

Yeah, so I was thinking.... "teabaggers".... BDSM....

So you want to be the top, and the GOP you've decided has to be the bottom.

Well, you don't get to decide.

We have input, too.

And if we resist tyranny with manly firmness, you'll just have to deal with it.

I just wish I trusted John Boehner to have that character trait.

I'm not interested in being your bitch. And not interested in watching you make other decent Americans your bitch, because you want something you're morally not entitled to.

Oh-by the way- all this claptrap about the supreme court has ruled it constitutional:

There are plenty of grounds on which to challenge it.

and

2. As I learned in law school, as far as litigation goes, the supreme court isn't last because it's right, it's right because it's last.

Learn the difference.

This has nothing to do with a potential shutdown. This is all due to Liberal thinking to give everybody, everything, the hell with the cost!

And yet you ignore the actual reality posted not two posts above yours. After all the rhetoric is done, it is the Democratic party that wants to raise taxes and cut costs and the Republican party which wants to do the opposite.
It's just when I personally want to trim a budget I do not start out with the nickels and dimes. I look at the heavy hitters right up front. And in the US, "heavy hitter" means "military". Conversely, raising taxes on poor people is an idiot's play. If you need more revenue you need to go to the folks who actually have money... that'd be the rich folks.
Is there some part of that very sound fiscal strategy that eludes you? Don't get me wrong, I know and understand the economic war that is being wages against the US. Heck, it's nothing more than we've been doing to other countries for a long time, the only difference being we are on the losing end this time because the Republicans have gutted our economy..

Jeff, they don't want to cut costs. They just want to raise taxes. The R's want to cut costs and not raise taxes. Neither side is willing to truly admit and commit to doing both.

Sequestration was fought tooth and nail by the Democrats. All the horrendous falling skies due to sequestration were the GOP's fault. Yet, nothing major really happened.

Sequestration wasn't actual cuts, but reductions in growth. As an example, with purely made up numbers and programs, the 10% increase in spending on the study of espresso use of capuchin monkeys to $110B was cut in half to a paltry 5%, leading to a "spending cut" of $5B. So, the pols can claim $5B in cuts when spending has still risen $5B.

Sequestration was little more than a reduction in spending increases. That's pretty much it.

You're just wrong.

100% wrong.

If we don't raise the debt limit, it just means we don't spend money on everything we wanted to spend it on.

Instead of paying for new construction or maintenance, we forego that, and pay the due debt payments instead.

Households do this all the time. They want a new suit but have no cash. The credit card company won't increase their limit. They also have a credit card bill due on the 1st and instead of buying a new suit, they pay the credit card payment.

The idea that not raising the debt ceiling equates to not paying debt, is an idea which benefits those who want the government to spend more. But it's not accurate.

If you think it's accurate, then simple concepts elude you.

Wrong. No, increase in the debt limit means there will not be sufficient cash on hand to service the debt and do all the other things the country must, by law, pay for as well. Since they cannot do all of those things then, since none are given priority all would receive less than is needed and one missed interest payment means the US defaults on all bonds presently in circulation and that means the collapse of the world economy as interest rates throughout the developed world go through the roof.

I assume you are a person of average intelligence. If you will read your paragraph carefully, word by word, you will find at least some of your errors.

One word at a time. Think about that ONE word. After you do that, then go to the next word.

Your third sentence is the most entertainingly in error. We clearly do have priorities.... because 80% plus of government has been up and running regardless.... Not to mention, the House has been setting priorities like mad for a week. Even if the Senate resents priorities, cause they aren't the Senate's priorities. Must have socialized medicine, must have socialized medicine, must have socialized medicine. :)

"defaults" on "all" bonds. You sure about that? You want to rethink that? You think the U.S. government issued "all" bonds on the same date? Do you think they "all" come due on the same date?

"interest rates through the roof" Interest rates now are so low they are impeding investment, as no one finds risk worth a paltry 1% return.

Other big errors here, but you get the drift..... Remember, one word at a time.

BTW, one reason the Fed wants interest rates so low, is because the federal debt is so large, the government would have a harder time paying interest payments at a higher rate.

So, investors are given the shaft to help the big spenders in D.C.

Ho hum.
