A student who pulled a once common high school prank at a game has committed suicide, likely because of the threat of a life sentence on the sex offender list. Sex offender laws are completely out of control. Some people are even on the list for urinating outside! Don't want to get charged for violating indecency statutes and risk the chance of being put on sex-offender lists? Don't whip out your junk in public. It's pretty simple. The laws may indeed suck, but you have to take responsibility for your own actions.

Of course at the time I also knew if I got caught I could be royally screwed. I decided that the chances of getting caught were not high enough and did it anyway. If I had been caught I would have dealt with it like I did every other time I was being really stupid. That said I think it is asinine that they put streakers on the same list as pedos and rapists. Personally I think there was a whole lot more behind this kids decision to end his life. To try to put the blame on this one incident is unrealistic. From what I read they hadn't decided what they were going to do yet.

The laws may indeed suck, but you have to take responsibility for your own actions. no I don't agree, you can't end up in a list with rapist and pedophyles just for that, you can say running around in the nude you are forcing other people and maybe or maybe not children to assist and offensive show, but I still think there is a huge gap in the violence and effects of the two acts that makes this acessory punishment just harsh. Than I don't even agree with the concept that if a punishment is unfair there is no problem because you can just avoid committing the crime, it's like saying if you don't want to be wipped in arabia just don't drink alchool, yes that's obvoius but the fact I can avoid it doesn't mean it's not an unusual and cruel punishment!

I feel for his family and their loss, but everything is not a lawsuit or a reason to make a new law.

OK. The kid did a stupid thing, followed by the ultimate stupid thing. Should we wipe the laws off of the books in case the offenders can't live with the consequences of their actions?

If you're male and your female neighbor hates your ass, all she has to do is say she saw you piss off the back porch at 4AM in court and you're on the list. Now, if you're a female teacher and want to have sex with male students, you get 2 years tops with no latter repercussions .

Two points: Justice would not have been so harsh for stupid harm no one events. Streaking is stupid. Nobody else was attacked not will they likely be by such a person. The punishment in this case was excessive and those that apply it to that extreme are just plain unjust. In my state, they code the list by severity and likelihood to harm another person. The lesser rated "dangers" offender fall off the list after two years. IMO, that would be excessive if all that occurred was streaking. (running nude past an offended person). ================ Locally before the registry was passed, a local church leader needed to piss at a local ball field. Some park employee forgot to unlock the park bathrooms. He did the necessary act out of view of those at the game, but was observed by a patrolling cop who charged him. His church supported him in the legal process but he was still convicted of a felony. If it was treated as a minor misdemeanor, all would have been unhappy but understanding. No ... the powers that be hit him with everything in the book including insuring he was humiliated in the press. Again, justice was misappropriated Those that prosecuted without mercy paid the price at the next election.

I'm talking about in general. A male teacher bangs a female student, they throw away the key but a female teacher serves 2 years typically.
