BREAKING: Senate rejects Democratic plan to extend debt ceiling through next year.
— The Associated Press (@AP) October 12, 2013

Voting was 53-45 with 2 Senators not voting. 51D's and 2I's voted for, 44R's and 1D voted against cloture. Two not voting were both R's (Coburn/Inhofe; both from OK).

It gained majority, but not the requisite 60 votes.

Interestingly,

The path to republican victory appears very similar to a cave.

The republicans need to pass extensions to the debt ceiling for every 2 weeks or so. Let the Democrats be seen as the party shutting them down.
The keep passing bills to address problems. CDC. WIC.

At the same time repubs can start point out -we've already agreed to pay them - we might as well make them work for the money.. Bring them back to work...
Hope they start that line soon..

Most caves are dead ends - one way in and one way out.

Who else but a rightwinger could find victory in a dead end?

"Cave" kinds stands for "cave-in"....

No less a fitting metaphor for embarrassing gop conduct.

"Let the Democrats be seen as"

Notice how the rightist mindset works....?

Couldn`t care less about the Americans who`re being denied and outraged but rather impotently trying to game the PR war........which they have utterly lost.

The ineptitude and disregard for reality is mind boggling...I mean if the gop never got that the entire nation blames them for the shutdown...how in the world do they think that will change if the geopee continues the shutdown?

One thing Obama has to address is the fact that the House Rs did bring funding which he rejected.

Imagine going to the bank saying you need money and they offer to extend loans to cover rent, water, and electric bill but wish to talk about over-extending credit card balances before covering those bill. And imagine you reject the bank's offer. Now, who's fault is it the rent did not get paid?

There was no offer of anything except a defunding.

Imagine that you went into the bank as an employee, to withdraw funds for which the bank had already ordered you to pay, and they said no, we have borrowed and speant irresponsibly, so we are not going to give you the money that we have spent to pay those bills unless you give us your savings account.

And this constitutes the impending collapse of the Evil Empire? You might keep in mind that decent America has no real choice: if the Tea Party has its way, this country will be wrecked. Under those circumstances, Obama has nothing to lose. Nice try though, as such usually goes.

Yesterday, at the National WWII Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial and the Lincoln Monument a few thousand Veterans, myself included, proved that decent Americans do indeed have a real choice...the Democratic Republic which America has been since it's founding or the Marxist Tyranny Obama promised to fundamentally transform America into during his 2008 campaign.

What I do see as interesting, given the ineptitude of the teabaggers, is that after all the mendacity and buffoonery, it would seem that if they can get the government open and the debt ceiling raised, that even the dems might pitch a bill for a year delay in the consumer end, given the massive problems getting the exchanges off the ground.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

Like in real estate, the only thing that matters is "Location. Location. Location.".

In this case, the same applies.

Yeah...we saw republican bigots Sarah Palin,Cruz and Larry Klayman speak at the rally......
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The march, which started with protestors removing barriers from the World War II Memorial and ended with a conflagration before the White House, quickly became the center of controversy. One man waved a Confederate flag; Freedom Works’ Larry Klayman told Obama to “put the Quran down” and leave town; the crowd invoked “brown shirts” and Kenya when police arrived.
http://www.mediaite.com/online/million-vet-march-organizers-we-were-hijacked-for-political-gain/
A march protesting the closures of war memorials in Washington, D.C. on Sunday featured marquee conservative figures like Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sarah Palin and ignited controversy over everything from the presence of a Confederate flag to calls for President Barack Obama’s impeachment.
Now the organizers of the march are decrying the usurpation what was supposed to be a “peaceful and apolitical” demonstration for political gain.
The group posted the following note on their official Facebook page and website.
"Official Stance of the Million Vet March on the Memorials:
The political agenda put forth by a local organizer in Washington DC yesterday was not in alignment with our message. We feel disheartened that some would seek to hijack the narrative for political gain. The core principle was and remains about all Americans honoring Veterans in a peaceful and apolitical manner. Our love for and our dedication to remains with Veterans, regardless of party affiliation or political leanings."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Shame on the bigoted knuckle draggers who hijacked the veteran's rally.

Good for you - and God Bless you.

I'm trying to set up something on Key Biscayne and/or the everglades this weekend.

The civilian private militia brownshirts who were set up to disrupt rival political parties meetings by intimidating people?

I thought someone would have picked up on this by now.

The audacity of the Republicans is breath taking. Knowing what they intended to do, they altered the house rules to stop anyone other than the Speaker or his Deputy, from putting a CR motion to the floor, doing away with members privelege.

If the democrats had done the same thing then the Republicans (Oopsies......"independents") would be up in arms (no pun intended)... They would be shouting about Free Speech, the Koran, Red China, Socialists and all sorts.

Just for yuks, here's Senator Harry Reid saying that [income] taxation here in the US is voluntary. And he's negotiating with the Rs?

Oye Vey! The guy should be making waffles at his local diner. But, in the best interests of definitional accuracy and taking him at his word...
