I take it you didnt watch the maddow piece. Now while Im not having a go at any conservative/republican person my feeling is for the girl and the attitude of the damn court.
THe girl is in this position because of the conservative/republican bill that was passed that stated that the minor has to have parental consent.

My feeling is for the girl also. That is why I said I wanted to see her answers to the questions they talked about. But my comment on conservatives was directed toward this comment "I look forward to hearing all our resident conservatives hitting the roof about the State's unwarranted intrusion into her life." So please tell me how our resident conservatives had anything to do with the bill? Or why some posters feel the need to make a snarky comment about the right in any post they make?

I make a snarky comment about the left in every post? How about some examples of that, because my memory is failing on this one.

The parents have guardianship responsibilities over their minor kids.

Are you going to challenge Nebraska's statutes stating the age of majority is 19, except in those cases where a minor under the age of 19 gets married? Unemancipated minors, according to NE law, are also not able to enter into legal contracts. Should that be done away with, too?

Shouldn't a parent, who is still the legal guardian of the minor, have some role in the decision for that minor to get an abortion?

I think it depends on who would be legally responsible for the child. If the minor, upon giving birth, assumes the responsibilities of an adult, then that minor should be allowed to make the decision on their own. It's just consistent to say that if they're old enough (in the eyes of the law) to raise a child, the law ought to consider them old enough to decide whether to terminate a pregnancy.

If, on the other hand, the parents or the state are legally responsible for the child instead then, yes, they should have a say.

FAST REPLY

If posters derail a topic with comments about each other it becomes a hijack. The forums have had guideline and rules since the beginning about hijacking topics. Some of the back and forth about each other is getting dangerously close to a hijack. Those involved should stop before it becomes a hijack.

I am hoping that these warnings in the topic about certain posts will give posters the opportunity to restrain themselves and further action not be needed. Part of moderation is posters being able to restrain themselves, especially after an open warning.

If there are any questions you can message any of the staff. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY IN THIS TOPIC.

Thank you for making CollarMe a better place,

I have trouble understand how a judge with known problems with abortion on ideological grounds wasn't asked to recuse himself? Isn't that a blatant conflict of interest?

It seems like this girl should have grounds for appeal, but by the time she does it could be irrelevant. She may already have carried the baby to term by then.

On thing that's unclear, it says that the girl was abused, but not whether the pregnancy was the result of abuse. She obviously suffered physical abuse, having a broken collar bone, but not whether there was sexual abuse. I'm asking because I thought abortion was always allowed in cases of rape/incest.

too immature to have an abortion(doesnt understand the ramifications), yet they made her go thru all this legal shit, court case, abuse trial for her "parents" she was what four weeks pregnant, now shes four months...sounds like me they are hoping they can drag it out until the legal limit for abortion so they dont face the "you forced her to give birth" accusations

Dingdingding!!

Too immature to have an abortion but not too immature to become a parent.....

FR,

This is a clusterfuck.
It is just as likely that she isn't mature enough to understand the emotional toll raising a child carries.

I disagree. She obviously is mature enough to understand she wouldn't be a good Mom right now.

You missed my point.

    quote:

It is true that she may not be mature enough to understand the emotional consequences of an abortion. It is also true that she may not be mature enough to understand the emotional consequences of putting a child up for adoption. It is just as likely that she isn't mature enough to understand the emotional toll raising a child carries.

If she's not mature enough to understand the consequences of an abortion, or from giving up a kid to adoption, she's not likely to be mature enough to understand the emotional toll of raising a child. Lots of "if's" in there. How the State thought she was mature enough to understand two of those, but not adoption, I don't know.
