Approval of Affordable Care Act Inches Up
More Democrats now approve of the law, while most Republicans still disapprove
by Frank Newport
PRINCETON, NJ -- Despite the highly publicized technical issues that have plagued the government's health insurance exchange website that went live on Oct. 1, Americans' views of the Affordable Care Act are slightly more positive now than they were in August. Forty-five percent now approve of the law, while 50% disapprove, for a net approval score of -5. In June and August, net approval was slightly lower, at -8.

These results come from a Gallup poll conducted Oct. 18-20, a few days after the end of the recent government shutdown -- which centered on partisan debates over funding the healthcare law -- and as media coverage of the poorly functioning health exchange sites increased. The results suggest that the problems with the health exchanges have not negatively affected Americans' overall views of the law, at least to this point."

Just wanna say Im happy that a few of the people I know who have signed up are happy with their new found insurance abilities!!!!!

In spite of the avalanche from bull-shit mountain...[:D]

Faux news is even avoiding running ACA success stories.....

Cuz you know....righties gotta have their ignorance and who are we to disabuse them of it ?

DarkSteven -> RE: obamacare 2 points up! (10/23/2013 7:36:25 PM)

Kinda early. Let's wait until it's been tried out for a bit, and the glitches get fixed. Right now, people are only hearing about it, not using the actual plan itself.

Owner59 -> RE: obamacare 2 points up! (10/23/2013 7:47:07 PM)

Glitches have nothing to do with the fact that folks want to sign up.

That fact stands on it`s own.

OsideGirl -> RE: obamacare 2 points up! (10/23/2013 7:55:08 PM)

I don't want to sign up.

Kaiser has cancelled our policy and our premium has gone up from $477 a month for a good policy to $605 a month for their lowest level of coverage which is so crappy we might as well have nothing.

At this point we're considering taking the penalty and putting the difference into a managed care account.

You could always look on the exchange and see what is out there. Very few people will actually pay more for equivalent coverage.

I can get slightly better coverage than the ACA for the same cost as the ACA directly through a carrier. But, that's not the point. I had a good policy that I could afford. Now, I am being forced to pay more for less. I'm being punished for being middle class and I don't think that's fair.

Pretty much the same thing with us. We get insurance through her work. New rates in January jack us up another 2,500.00 annually. I can't wait for this fucking train wreck to fall apart.

It must be just republicans getting their rates jacked up and getting dumped off their insurance rolls.

In Florida 300 freakin thousand people just got dumped from their insurance company.

http://www.ijreview.com/2013/10/88662-300000-health-insurance-policies-cancelled-florida-hundreds-thousands-states/

"Over the past three months, hundreds of thousands of Americans who buy their own health insurance have received cancellation letters from their insurance providers. Some will be automatically enrolled by their provider in an alternative (and, in most cases, more costly) plan, while others will have to shop around for a new option.

The cancellation notices have shocked and outraged many Americans, particularly in light of President Obama’s repetitive promises that they would be able to keep their plans if they wanted."

I'm going to have to take that poll with a great deal of skepticism.

Nah, this has been happening in state after state. Some insurers are losing 40-60% of their total individual insurance market.

papassion -> RE: obamacare 2 points up! (10/24/2013 3:29:33 PM)

face it, if you're smart, skilled ,and have a good well paying job, you don't qualify for a lot of government subsides. If you're Liberal, know everything except how to get a well paying job, you qualify for government help. So the dummies will love Obamacare!

As long as you set up that you owe a few dollars rather than get a refund from the IRS, there is zero provision for collection of the penalty tax. None. Nada. Zip. IRS only has ability to deduct the penalty tax from a refund, unless one pays it.

Isn't that plan? Eventually get everyone into government sponsored insurance then shift to single payer?

Phydeaux -> RE: obamacare 2 points up! (10/24/2013 4:18:50 PM)

Yachtie, the only problem with not paying the penalty is the IRS can do all the other things the IRS does when you owe them money.....

Phydeaux -> RE: obamacare 2 points up! (10/24/2013 4:20:03 PM)

The most important question of all is this:

At least 1/2 the country does not want obamacare. Why should the democrats insist on forcefeeding it to us?

Like what? There is no provision for liens, entering your bank accounts, garnishment, etc.

Give it a little time. Some bureaucrat at the IRS will eventually figure it into the policy. After all, the fine or tax or whatever the fuck it is, is in the law. Depending of course whatever the meaning of is is. [8|]

But conservatives are not very often smart, skilled or have good paying jobs, nor are liberal. What do they do? [:D]

An yet the majority voted for the Democrats, who created the bill into law with heavily Republican opposition. So 'yeah', everyone in the nation got their chance to have a say on the law's creation. Nobody is force feeding you anything. If you don't want a health plan, don't get one. As with any law, there is usually a penalty for not doing something. If you don't like the Affordable Care Act, you just have to convince the moderates to join your lunatic band wagon. As most of them are VERY aware that conservatives nearly cost this country greatly a short time ago (like two weeks ago). I don't expect them to be to open to any of your conservative/libertarian schemes.

As people acquire a health plan, they'll shift their attitudes and wonder how they lived without it. And when they get upset at things within the ACA, they will press Congress to make the ACA.....BETTER!

I'll be happy to explain how this will work, and no its not in any document, just what I EXPECT to happen

year one you owe a penalty, you don't pay it nothing they can do, NEXT year its no longer a PENALTY you owe it just show up as previous years tax NOT PAID and will be treated like ANY OTHER NON PAYMENT of a tax...
not sure I am explaining this correctly, but in essance after the actual year you OWE the PENALTY, from then on it will just show up on the records as you didn't pay your taxes in full...

here is ANOTHER lil ploy they might try, you owe some taxes, even if you get a refund there will be some money you OWE that they KEEP, so they take the penalty out of THAT MONEY then say well you PAID THE PENALTY, but you still owe us for THIS TAX AMOUNT and again its treated as any other NON PAYMENT OF taxes

this is just TO EASY, there may be NO PROVISION in the ACA, to collect, but when you OWE THE IRS YOU OWE THE IRS PERIOD!

think of this lil fact, what provision is there in any document for the collect any other penatlies, for say LATE FILING etc etc etc

but trust me after it acrues interest etc etc etc eventualy they WILL COME FOR IT!
