Does anyone know why some soaps actually clean you, as in squeaky clean and other soaps don't? Anyone got a recipe for that? We have an extra crock pot and if I could make good soap with my house logo on it, I would make home made soap . . . the first time. Then I would teach the slave and make her do it from then on in. :)

It's in what's called "super fatting". A 0% super fatted soap will have no oils left unsaponificated, so it will do the squeaky clean thing. Most soapers usually do somewhere around 5% superfat, because it's actually better for your skin to not strip the entire acid mantle from your skin. So, all you would have to do is choose 0% as the superfat on the soap calculator. Just be aware that there is no margin for error and your measurements will need to be dead on. I would also suggest that you look at the oil properties and choose oils that are high on the cleansing numbers.

I use a moisturising gel and that costs me about 60 cents or less and lasts me about a month if I only scrub once a day.
Yup and it's made up entirely of detergents. Your skin is your biggest organ. Look at the label and try to tell me, without looking any of it up, what you're putting on your skin.

$30 seems an exorbitant amount to pay for soap - even hand made stuff!
No, it's not. It's a better product made with better ingredients. You're essentially complaining that the gourmet burger place doesn't have the same price as McDonald's $1 menu.

And, in our house, any bar of soap goes soggy and melts in just a few days and is wasted.

Which means that you left it directly in water. Real soap needs to be on a soap rack out of the direct flow of water.

Thanks for saving me the keystrokes, Oside!

FUUUUUUCK!!!!

I built my house to be....what I wanted....wake up....want some Oreo's? 20 packs waiting.

Want Chicken Noodle soup? 90 cans in the bin (labels all facing out, lined up, by the way).

Tomato Soup? Same....

Until I had a girlfriend (who was convinced that all my spaghetti sauce {15 count of every possible variation} was made by chemists, intent on spoiling the universe, whereupon she dumped every freaking ounce of it....but I got the jump on her when we bought "Organic" spaghetti sauce {at 3 times the price}.....it was made by the exact same company....{at I might add....at the EXACT same fucking TIME!!!!})...she tore apart my whole gawddamned pantry!!!!

So....now you know...gotta have what I want when I want it....OCD...(maybe)...still....gotta have it...I want what I want....when I (fucking) want it.

Now, it would appear, I have a soap problem.

So it seems.

I always liked my soap.

I chose that soap. I love that soap.

It smells good and....it feels luxurious.

Now....that soap is making me (it would appear) unclean.

Now I have to buy new soap.

No one's complained about my smell (yet)....I stink, don't I?

Fuuuuuuuck.

It's actually getting you too clean. The acid mantle on your skin protects your skin from bacteria. So, by using products that remove that acid mantle you're leaving skin open to bacteria that can cause rashes, inflammation and break outs. Which is why people who use harsh products on their face can end up getting worse acne.

I just ordered 2 bars of this. We shall see.

That may work. It has coconut and palm oil, which at higher levels can cause dryness. So, you'll have to give it try to see.

I like "too clean".

I'm good with too clean.

I will, however, buy the other soap.

Thank you very much for explaining that. Luv ya'!

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Crock pot soap recipe # 1. As requested!!! (12/19/2013 3:22:08 PM)

Well, I have had 2 showers with the soap I ordered and I gotta say I think I like it. When I first got out of the shower, my skin felt squeaky clean, which is not something i am fond of honestly, I thought it was dried out. By the time I was getting dressed for work, I felt like I had put lotion on, a step I intentionally skipped to see how the soap did.

The bars were huge, and while I am sure I will probably play around with brands some, I believe I am hooked!

shiftyw -> RE: Crock pot soap recipe # 1. As requested!!! (12/19/2013 4:35:06 PM)

Oside- you seem really knowledgeable so I'm going to pick your brain a bit...
I paid out the nose for this locally made "shampoo bar" soap.
It works pretty well.

I have thyroid issues so my hair falls out and breaks easily- I was hoping that avoiding commercial and chemical shampoos would help with this- however it has not.

Have you ever made shampoo bars, or is this really just soap labelled differently?
Is there something I should look for in a shampoo bar?

I tried the baking soda/ACV thing before and that just dried my hair out. Any help would be great :)

OsideGirl -> RE: Crock pot soap recipe # 1. As requested!!! (12/19/2013 5:03:36 PM)

Bar soap doesn't really have a good PH for hair which is why many recommend doing the ACV rinse afterwards.

You may want to check out Phosphate Free shampoos, or you could try something that is really popular with people that have very curly hair...using conditioner to wash your hair. Conditioners actually have enough surfactants to wash your hair, if you tend to have very dry or hair that tends to frizz.

shiftyw -> RE: Crock pot soap recipe # 1. As requested!!! (12/19/2013 5:19:28 PM)

Thanks so much. I do have dry wavy hair so perhaps just conditioner is the way to go.

calamitysandra -> RE: Crock pot soap recipe # 1. As requested!!! (12/20/2013 1:44:13 AM)

I do the conditioner only thing, and it works great for my thin, dry, and brittle, wavy hair.

All you freaks that believe that making shit is something that even 3% of the rest of the world can do...haven't been to my place.

Pairing matching socks is a big fucking step for me.

I was told 10 days ago how to order soap by someone here who seems to know this shit....I'm gonna do that.

Don't make this shit harder.
