The downside of a chastity device is that's it requires nothing from the user. The user does not learn to obey. The user does not learn to keep hands away when told to keep hands away. It's more like a cheating device than a training device.

kalikshama -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (11/4/2013 4:54:59 PM)

They sound unhygienic to me.

This thread has posts from UllrsIshtar who has used them: Chastity Belts?

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (11/5/2013 6:11:26 AM)

FR

I would think hygiene, comfort, finding a good fit, (potential) expense, and awkward conversations when going through airport security.

Most of the downsides are things that would go away if you found one that fitted just perfect, (and had a reasonable plan for washing) but unfortunately by the time you've worn it for a day and found out it's a poor fit, it's too late to send it back. Might get expensive.

Also (and forgive me, because I'm not sure whether you're talking about a cock cage or a chastity belt) it can serve to put more focus on the genitals, which could be a great, fun thing, or it could defeat the object of denying someone by basically drawing a lot of attention to their private parts and causing them to focus even more on their own pleasure.

UllrsIshtar -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (11/5/2013 7:53:40 AM)

In no particular order: chaffing, hygiene, motion restriction (especially on female chastity devices), clothing restrictions due to visibility (both male and female devices), physical discomfort, decreased libido (depending on how they are used), bathroom visits more complicated (for both male and female devices).

Basically I've found that if your goal is to achieve physical erotic abstinence because the s-type can't be trusted or isn't willing to abstain, they are a disaster and not very effective (for starters most males can slip most male devices if they really want to, and most females can achieve orgasm by putting vibration on the belt if they really want to).

If on the other hand you're using them as a prop to sustain a bondage fantasy of control which is erotic to both parties then they are absolutely great, because at that point the logistical issues become irrelevant, because you can just take the damn thing off when you need to, instead of having the base foundation of trust in the relationship destroyed due to the wearer's inability to keep the device on as originally planned when first locked in.

I'm not convinced that's true. It's common for cb's to have a primary shield which doesn't touch the clitoris and a secondary shield which sits away from the primary shield so that it also doesn't touch the clit. As such vibrating the belt doesn't result in direct clitoral stimulation.

I can say that a Hitachi doesn't do much for my girl through her belt. What belt do you have experience with?

cloudboy -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (11/7/2013 7:44:44 PM)

BOOM!! Now I call that an answer.

UllrsIshtar -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (11/8/2013 2:52:55 AM)

This one: http://www.dhgate.com/product/female-fully-adjustable-y-type-stainless/136129779.html

I personally don't need the belt to be in touch with my clit to achieve orgasm. I don't even attempt to put the vibration to my clit. What I do instead is use the belt's connection to my hips to create resonance on my pubic bone to give me an internal, instead of an external orgasm.

It does take something with a lot of power, like a Hitachi, to do that, normal vibrators are absolutely useless, and it does take a while, but I've read several other women online describe doing the same thing (which is how I originally got the idea to even try it). So if your girl can't that way, great for you, if you/she doesn't know if she can this way or not, don't tell her the method exists. [;)]

David92506 -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (11/8/2013 2:31:19 PM)

I refuse to wear one because the downside is that I go to the gym everyday and use their locker room and shower facilities. I live in a small town where gossip runs wild and BDSM isn't accepted.

GotSteel -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (11/9/2013 6:49:26 PM)

Wow, I try to be well read on topics I'm interested in, I'm not surprised very often anymore.

But I've got to say, I've never heard of that one before.

experiment2 -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (11/21/2013 7:34:31 AM)

to me the downside of a chastity device is the comfort. too often just as you think you can handle an extended time period for long term use the skin on your cock and balls will become very irritated and swell in places forcing you to remove the device for a day to two. i have been successful on sevral occassions. going for a period of almost two months at the longest.

keeping in chastity for a lengthy period maintains the desire for sexual release but cripples the ability to stay erect. you cannot stay focused on your cock since you can not really feel or touch it. this may be an upside or downside to some.

NullHypothesis -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (11/22/2013 3:49:32 PM)

I'm confused by this post. If you're in chastity, there is a 99% chance it's because a Dominant put you there. That being the case .... arguments against wearing one (discomfort, chafing .... "I refuse to wear one") are all pointless.

Why exactly would arguments against wearing one based on a health concerns be pointless?

Methinks that any "dominant" ignoring such arguments, or consider them pointless is soon going to find them without any s-types around.

SilverFoxBDSM -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (12/22/2013 10:36:20 AM)

Chastity, Like most of the stuff on here is a "FETISH" largely. There are those who engage it in lifestyle play and full time.
Stuff happens kids. Really simple solution to the entire discussion.
ONE> If chastity go big or go home. The off the rack stuff is just like walmart. Yeah it might fit ok. This should be a custom fit unit for a man. Using a QUALITY device not the chinese crap. Folks like Mature Metal and Steelwerx have taken due diligence with the male anatomy.
Two > Caviet Emptor is just as valid in this as in any other purchase. Do your homework read up. May have to try a few devices. Kinda like taking up a hobby like woodworking or sewing. Equipment costs money. Ya go cheep you will buy it twice. Use common sense have communication. Both Dom(me) and sub should be aware of what the hell is happening to the body. Then like grown adults make an adult decision. Or are we all still in seventh grade here? Just sayin. Peace all.

SoapyOne -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (12/26/2013 8:03:21 PM)

We have been into male chastity for about 13 years. From leather and steel, to silicon devices, hard plastic and metal. With the exception of full belts or a Prince Albert lock, we have tried most of the "Off the Shelf" devices (mentioned above - and yes, it can get expensive.) Every device we have tried, can be pulled out of at the base, to include the Kali's Teeth Bracelet if it is only locked around the shaft, (This is a great item for torture if you are into pain in the genital area.)

The harder plastic devices such as the CB2000, CB3000 and CB6000 we have tried and they have had the plastic cage split and at times the rings break around the posts. I wore them 24x7 sometimes up to 73 days at a time. Usually, they don't stay on that long, as there are always either supervised cleanings or Mistress wants to have intercourse, etc. So, cleaning and hygene is extremely important. That being said, currently in a CB6000s and the cage has not had the "zipper" effect from splitting and catching the penis skin in it when it closed back up. (Yes, it is painful.)

The rings when sized incorrectly on non-belt type devices can cause all the effects mentioned above, to include tearing the skin when stretched, depending on the tightness of the ring. The biggest complain isn't with the plastic splitting, it happens, it is with the rings not adhearing to the body, as the space between the ring and the back of the shaft, the human body changes with heat, cold, motion, and the biggest complaint is that one testical or the other always seems to find a way to squeeze out of the ring when excersizing or bouncing around (just one of those things that happen.) This gives the feeling of the nut being busted, but then the device basically falls off.

Metal rings we found had the unfortunate habit of having weld spikes sticking out of them, requiring filing down, but by the time you have a penis locked in place and then growth happening, it is to late to realize what is happening. This too can cause punctures in the skin which is not recommended for long term use, obviously.

There has been no issues with urination or climaxing without the cages on. Urination with the cages requires sitting... I have tried it standing and it is not a good thing.

I work out at home so I don't go to the gym, so that isn't an issue with me as it is for some people. We use plastic luggage locks when travelling and have not had issues even when going through airports (plastic cage and rings for travelling.)

Generally I can request to be released for medical reasons, for taking care of business and for cleanings and Mistress is very good about it. She also likes to tease which reminds me there is a cage on.

I would agree with the comments above about getting what you pay for and to experiment. You have to have trust in your partner when using chastity devices, as I haven't found a device yet I can't get out of, non-belt types, that is. So, I try to be honest when in the CB series, as I know if I really need out for an emergency, there are no issues with it in our relationship.

Lucylastic -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (12/31/2013 7:19:08 AM)

Im loving the advice here, thank you, Ive been "playing" with them on and off for ten years now, but have decided finally to go with either the Bon 4 or the birdlocked. Weve worked thru several issues over the years, the infrequency of me being there, the hygiene issues, the chafing, sleep , yes its important to me that he can get a good nights sleep, and not be in pain when he is working. Theres a whole whack of rules for it to work, but we need something flexible but snug, im not sure I like the silicone coverage, maybe just use it as a night one...heh Im sure it will get used and enjoyed.
Again Thanks for the good advice :)

Irishm57 -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (1/1/2014 2:48:52 AM)

A few years ago my girlfriend and i played with chastity. It was semi costly experiment. All 3 plastic ones broke or cracked. CB2000, 3000 and the curve. One thing i hated was the plastic rings turned into chafe hell when perspiring. Even making the skin raw.

One other thing with them is the cock ring is big, i mean fat. So it pushes the sack out forward a lot, which made them difficult to conceal in anything except baggy pants.

Recently i was looking around amazon and saw metal ones and very cheap. So i figured what the heck and bought 2 different ones. When they arrived i was very surprised they didn't seem like cheap junk. And I was really surprised at how comfortable both were. No sharp or rough edges. And with the ring only being made from about 1/4 inch metal it didn't push the ball sack way out front. The monday before christmas i put one on to try it. I even shoveled snow with it on and it was no problem. I wore it for the entire week and sleeping was no issue either, no chafing. The samurai one is kind of large and the cage is pear shaped so it does show a little through shorts, and it just looks wierd but very functional.

So if you want to try a low cost entry into chastity, i would take a a look at these
The samurai one
The samurai one

The bird cage one
Bird cage style

The above is just my experiences. One draw back to the ones i just bought is they only come with one size cock ring, not 3 like the plastic ones. So when i bought the metal ones, i bought the samurai with a 2 inch ring and the birdcage style one with 1.75 as luck would have it both sizes worked fine. and Even with the 2 inch ring and being active , i had no pull out issue ( like soapyone mentioned a ball can pull back through and it is painful).

orgasmdenial12 -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (1/2/2014 5:08:48 AM)

The downsides are that there is simply no device in the world that could actually prevent me from orgasming, if I chose to. I can simply rock my hips and squeeze (the humping technique) or use clamps on my nipples, or be caned on my ass, or knife play on my back - all of these have caused orgasms before. So a belt is completely pointless and ineffective.

Belts can also train both sub and Dom to rely on kit rather than self control. In that respect, using a belt instead of using training creates a vicious circle. The Dom becomes ever more reliant on a piece of kit that cannot guarantee what it is supposed to do.

Chastity belts can be exciting and erotic as a part of play but, imo, long term orgasm denial is best achieved through training and a desire, from both parties, to achieve that level of denial.

experiment2 -> RE: Chastity devices downsides (1/2/2014 9:07:51 AM)

i also agree that most chastity devices do allow for an orgasm in some manner. the soft silicone ones can be squeezed producing stimulation and an ejaculation. while you are in the hard ones plastic and metal it is possible to use a q-tip or simular object to stimulate to orgasm. an orgasm can be had from nipple stimulation for some as well as from CBT activities.

that said, the orgasm produced to me is very unforefilling. it generally results in a dribble ejaculation that is over in 30-60 seconds. the chastity cage wearer is left with a frustration and the guilt that he knows will come. if he has a Mistress or Domme, they must be informed and generally the results will not be good for the chastity wearer. not only has he had a poor orgasm, he is now in trouble and likely to be punished. so yes you can cheat, but is it worth it.

I have not tried the newer type chastity cages with the hollow metal tube inseted into the penis. it would be interesting to hear from any users as to how effective they are preventing unapproved orgasms. i suspect they are effective.
