Warm Greetings,

I happened to see on a profile the title "Grand Master," trained in such and such place. I was just curious if there really is such a thing and exactly what they are trained in.

Yes, there is such a thing as a "Grand Master", but in the Masonic (Freemasonry) context. One must be elected to the office by the other Masonic brethren of his state. the title "Grand Master" is the equivalent to the title of "president" of the state body of the Masonic Lodge-the Grand Lodge. If one was elected to the highest position at the local level of their Masonic Lodge they would be referred to as "Worshipful Master".

There is also the title of Grand Master given in many forms of martial arts, although it is considered rude to use it when refering to oneself.

That means he is a member of the Ku Klux Klan and trained in making hoods out of pillowcases, burning crosses and some other stuff. Or is that a Grand Dragon?

This means he plays chess and has a numeric rating of 2000 or higher. Here's the formula:
The Rating Rn which is to be published for a previously unrated player is then determined by taking the weighted average of all his Ru results. e.g. A player has Ru results of 2280 over 5 games, 2400 over 10 games and 2000 over 5 games:
Rn = [ 2280 x 5 + 2400 x 10 + 2000 x 5 ] / 20 = 2270.

10.31 Where a player`s first performance(s) is less than 1801, the result(s) is ignored.

10.32 Rn for the FIDE Rating list (FRL) is rounded off to the nearest 1 or zero.

Only Rn>= 1801 are considered.

I don't know how active they are in the lifestyle.

I'm decided, as tribute to not only my lifestyle but my heritage, to only recognize those that refer to me by my proper title,
"Emperor-Merc"


and only when it's displayed in it's proper Royal Purple, italicized, and size as indicated here. My first choice "Grand Puba" was already taken my Ralph Kramden.

A GRAND MASTER, is older and wiser and is a Master that is a Grandpa therefore Grand Master......

My Dom tells me he is Grand all the time, does that make him a Grand Dom? In that regards, I can be a Grand submissive [:D].....Someone, please send me a certificate...make me certified.

Well, I have read some of these responses and I am SHOCKED, I tell you, shocked at the rudeness shown to Grand Masters!

Do ANY of you people realise just how long it takes to train and how difficult it is to make a piano obey your will?!

Now, we are not talking "baby grand" here... that's just sick! But a fullsized grand piano is not a beast to trifle with if you haven't been instructed in its use and movements.

After years of study, a Grand Master can subdue and humble even the proudest of uprights. The crux of the issue is to recognise which pianos are eligible for dominance and which are not. Usually if the piano's keys are mostly to the right, they are considered a player piano. Some are into electric play and others percussion, but all can be made to sing at the hands of a true Grand Master!

So let us hear no more snide comments!

It takes more than just a rating of 2000 to be a grand master in chess. For one thing, 2000 isn't even master level; master is 2200. But in order to become a grand master, you need to have the requisite rating AND accumulate a certain number of credits which you earn by performing well at tournaments and defeating other grand masters. A lot of top-notch chess players don't become grand masters because they don't have the time to earn all those gold stars. They're called "international masters," the highest level you can attain without being a grand master.

Back to the question at hand. I've seen a few people online call themselves "Grand Master" this or "Grand Mistress" that, along with dates of study, the name of their teacher, and so on. It has always sounded like complete bullshit to me, but those people do take it seriously.

Okay we are having WAY too much fun with this line of thought. Not that I am complaining, personally extreme titles bother me, after all why do they need them? What self-esteem issues are they having? I mean I understand, DOM/DOMME/DOMINA even MASTER, MISTRESS, Lord, and Lady. However, to title oneself a grand something or rather seems a bit pretentious. Of course, that is just me, and I mean no disrespect to those who feel they have to have great and powerful names.

Of course, all this reminds me of the Genii in Aladdin... 'Phenomenal cosmic powers... itty bitty living space.'

While my first impression is much like everyone else's (a big "Oh pleeeease!"), the thought occured to me that it really could be an earned title. I know that European Houses give titles. I know one such Diva, where Diva was the given title. However, beyond that speculation, I don't know, since I really don't know all that much about the Houses. I suggest asking him for references if you're interested in him, and, by all means, CHECK those references!

I finished wiping the tears from my eyes (too funny ;0) and would like to thank you all for the responses. I had thought maybe I was clueless about some secret group or bestowed title for training rites.

I have a feeling people who use titles dont read forums :)
