I like 1/4 inch poly. I buy it off the reel at Home Depot.

I use fire on the cut ends to prevent unraveling but shave the final result with a knife to remove abrasive edges. If you run it through the washing machine it gets a little softer.

Me too. Except I never could dress it well with fire so I used white tape. I thought about purple rope for color but never have felt the urge to replace white. White looks better in the darker light common to play time.

Anyway I digress, maybe it's the contemporary CM way that I should take my first venture into the Gorean boards to tell any and all how I don't like or relate to Gorean...? lol

sure!

Just to clear up any potential confusion:

Gorean Lifestyles - This is a forum for those who identify as Goreans and for others who wish to learn about it.

Now back to the rope discussion.

Fire is much better. It's a little more work at first but it lasts forever. It even lasts when you've got to wash the ropes. You need to take a razor or a very sharp knife to the finished product to prevent it from snagging on the knots or cutting your partner.

Don't trust me because I am a self-proclaimed dom. Trust me because I was a Boy Scout.

I have limited experience with rope however I do do some bondage play.. Not to change the subject but since most of you seem knowledgeable I thought I'd ask here.

Looking for some good instruction on some basic knots. For example, rope cuffs or shackles.. Which, I've done a google search and I've watched some youtube videos.. But was wondering if some of you may have a go to source when needing the reference?

Thanks!

I know this guy in person and would highly recommend him as a teacher http://esinem.com/ He's paved the way forward in rope safety and studied what can happen to the redial nerve from TK or box-tie. You will also find him on FL and can join in his debate groups.

Tying anything other than a double figure of eight or a bowline would be too bulky with 11mm climbing rope. Personally I will only use static climbing rope in suspension but I tend to go for something a bit daintier than 11mm.

I think coloured rope is a very subjective thing. I like the visual of the naked model and I don't like the rope to stand out more than the subject who is being bound. SunTzuSwe said it all when he mentioned the patterns left on the subjects skin, left by jute rope. That looks amazing!

Agreed, but the few times I did work with rope, I liked having the ability to tie big, easy-to-work-out knots if I had to. The smaller stuff always turned into 'granny' knots on me.

NiceButMeanGirl -> RE: Rope? What Rope? (11/12/2013 9:36:06 PM)

I like 1/4" or 3/8" cotton for my rope bondage needs. Unless it's for cock & ball bondage, then I use cotton clothesline as it's smaller diameter and better for finer work. As for color, I use Rit Dye, it works wonders and comes in a gazillion colors.

I'm sooooo jealous of you.... Okay, not really, but.... I'd love to have someone that knowledgeable in my local community to rely on for inspiration and teaching. Not to say that my own city is lacking in that department, just that you have someone that versed in rope.

We played with a couple of their books at the last rope practice. Definitely something I need to have on my own device so I can brush up before the next meet.

I learned how to whip the ends of rope in sailing. It lasts almost as long, and works on natural fiber ropes as well (those that don't melt together from fire). It's especially effective if you get the waxed whipping twine (designed for sailing applications). It stands up to most abuses.

You realize it's scandalously neglectful that you don't match the rope to her heels, right?

Trying again after last night's posting technical difficulties....

It's a conversation. People digress, unless they're made to feel they can't or shouldn't. Was that your desired result?

Well golly gosh and geeeee whiz, guess I'm the perpetual rookie round here.

This particular "digress"; started at the 4th post, or 3rd reply.  Seemed more like cold water since there'd been buggar-all discussion to digress from - so I ask....  <shrugs>

This, right here...!

You can find images of naked women anywhere, not that it ever gets boring.  Still, too much of a good thing and all that, one tends to look without really looking, if you know what I mean.  Now, add even a hint of a restraint or anything that can be construed as a collar and yours truly is noticing every little detail of said image.

Which is where my 3rd rule of bondage comes from.  It's not enough that my girl is bound safely yet securely, there's 2 parts to the finished.... errrr.... article/product here.  Her naked form complemented by aesthetically pleasing (to me) bondage.  And nothing spoils that balance like too much bondage.  Or messy rope work, or loose ends etc.  Hasta be the whole package or I'm not happy so I take the time that needs to be taken.

So both the amount of rope is subjective to what you're trying to achieve as is the colour matching personal taste and the particular bound subject.

caelestis -> RE: Rope? What Rope? (11/15/2013 5:05:21 PM)

From someone who is usually the one tied up instead of doing the tying, I really prefer hemp or jute. Especially if there is going to be suspension involved. Not only do I love the feel of it, it seems the knots tighten up less when pressure is applied, which I think someone touched upon briefly. Also, you can get it in LOTS of colors, and even customize it by dying it yourself if you can't find the exact color you want. I've even seen some multicolored stuff that's drool worthy. However I do know a few people that don't like the "scratchy" feel of it.
