PeonForHer -> 1940s Female Underwear. (11/22/2013 2:47:37 PM)

I've been watching 'The Bomb Girls' series and there are lots of scenes of women in their underwear as they change for their shift in the bomb-making factory in WW2-period Canada.

I've concluded that all women should wear 1940s underwear.

That's it. Get to it and post the pictures soonest. I don't like to be kept waiting.

Girdles and pointy bras I assume.

I remember girdles. It ain't happening. Those things are nasty.

Not sure about the pointy bra (fairly sure I'd never get one in my size anyway) but I quite like the high-rise bottom half. Since the post c-sec pooch is the part of my body that makes me most self conscious, I can imagine feeling pretty sexy in some of that stuff.

I would love to do a pin-up style photoshoot too, while we're talking about 'sexy days gone by'.

They are beautiful, but those bras are have modern "Wonderbra" style construction.

I'm a big fan of 1940's clothing. The tailoring of that era was very form flattering and I have several 1940's vintage and retro dresses, blouses, and skirts in My closet. Yes, I wear them in public.

It's funny you should post this now. I've been perusing the internet all week for a 1940's bra in My size. The cut of the bra will better compliment the 1940's clothing it is worn under than modern bras.

I'm actually planning a 1940's Pinup photo shoot with a sub or two I know. One in particular is of short stature, slim build, and soft features that could be adapted--with minor effort--to pass for a woman in public.
On Wednesday W/we went to a large departments store where I helped him pick out a full makeup ensemble to compliment his complexion...and then ABANDONED HIM at the crowded checkout line. Oh, didn't he SQUEAK INDIGNANTLY afterward about how HUMILIATING the experience was!!! *EVIL GRIN*

I agree about the pointy bras. But the stockings and the knicks - (are they 'camiknicks'?) they were just fab.

I like the men's attire, too. I went to a friend's surprise birthday party a while ago - it was 1940s themed and we were all asked (by the man-of-the-day's GF) to be appropriately outfitted. Hell I'd love one of those military greatcoats. And one of those hats, which I'd wear at what I understand was considered to be a 'rakish angle'. Hoh yes.

Lucylastic -> RE: 1940s Female Underwear. (11/23/2013 6:00:47 AM)

cami knickers yes
My gran used to talk about making her own camis out of the silk they used to make parachutes out of during the war, (she worked munitions factory, and used to get the cut offs from the chute factory" Get the nylons from the "Spivs" or the local US troops.
I have some lovely lavender satin and lace to make camis from:)

TNDommeK -> RE: 1940s Female Underwear. (11/23/2013 6:01:54 AM)

I'm a big fan as well

grrrrrrr I love stockings but rarely find a pair that fit just right.

You can go to google's pictures section and search the term "sweater girl".

It wasn't until the mid to late 60s that women's underwear left the natural waist for hip hugging.
Before panty hose:
1> A girdle was worn to hold up stockings. There were clips that attached to the lower hem of the girdle to attach stockings. According to my mom, a girdle is much more comfortable than a garter belt and doesn't leave painful lines on the back of the legs after a day at work. (with her it wasn't a desk but in front of a microscope)
2> "Firm" was sexy but today's concept of sexy would have been considered "unattractive starving waif look"

Also have a look at "long line bra" which was a bra and girdle combined .... think of a corset that actually came to mid thigh in some cases.

Old fart remembering his mom's closet.

Depends on the waif...  Audrey Hepburn didn't do too badly.

Hmm, those links to the Dita Von Teese collection are a good example of fantasy 40s underwear.

I'm thinking, in modern terms, the difference in what you find at J.C. Penny's and at Frederick's of Hollywood. <grin>

Hard to find but I did find some advertising from the 1940s and a kink film clip from the 50s....

See what it looked like back then:

Newsreel advertisement from 1942 hawking rayon fabric. Hey, that stuff took off when the U.S. could no longer get silk from asia.
http://archive.org/details/Tomorrow1941

Stag film clip. Late 40s or early 50s .. cone bras and loose fitting panties
http://archive.org/details/Co-EdSecrets

Nudie film from 1927 anyone? (yeah, off topic a bit but so cute today and so erotic then...)

That second link was a class bit of BDSM history all on its own, MT. Nice, thanks!

Ah yes. Pointy bras. Gone . . . and best forgotten.
