Slavery as a relationship style is a choice, and it's as temporary as either party wants it to be. The reality is that d/s is about having a relationship "as if" one party has 51% of the vote. It's a metaphor.
By definition, when it comes to real slavery, there's no need to "convince". It's not an option. What we do can feel real, but it's not in any legally enforceable sense. Jews celebrate because they did not want to be slaves and were finally freed -- there is no comparison between that d/s.
It's "as if". If a slave "escapes" the police don't get called, the owner has no rights and if in fact he/she tries to reclaim the slave without their consent, it's the owner who goes to jail, and likely gets sued as well.
Perhaps it will help if you think in terms of surrender and yielding, of finding one who will give themselves to you (and who has the right to put an end to it) rather then a slave that one would buy like chattel.
Freedom means having the right to choose, and you are chosen as master as much as you choose someone as slave.
And yes, I'm Jewish. Family emigrated after the war; I had an aunt and an uncle in the camps (both survived) my maternal grandparents were the on the last train to Auschwitz. And my family converted. I was born and raised Protestant (why? because my father thought it was the most benevolent/least intrusive denominations). All my parents wanted after the war was a melting pot democracy (my father had spent 6 months in a labor camp for not joining the communist party).
