I realized first and foremost that she is an American, and free speech is promised to all citizens. I still admired her music and talent. And, I actually agreed with what she said. The aftermath of her words are what really bothered me. I'm sure many of you saw people lining up and burning their CD's, and even, throwing them in piles for a bulldozer to crush. History demonstrated to us that the Nazis engaged in this behavior. This is what bothered me the most. With actions come consequences. I don't dispute their right to voice their opinions, nor do I dispute the right of the public to burn the CD't they bought in protest, or to call radio stations and voice their own opinions as to the music they don't wish to hear. [and WayWardSoul made an honest and very important point, the books, etc. the Nazi's burned were removed forcefully from the homes of the owners and burned...the CD's were burned by people who owned them...a big difference] quote:
But of course, why would someone object to someone that shares their narrow point of view then hides behind an american flag. After reading every post in this thread, it appears that the majority of people, no matter which side the may stand on, appear hypocritical. In my opinion, it all boils down to consequences for actions. If you don't think you might like the consequences for the actions you take, reconsider your actions. There may have been a better way for Jody to have done what she did. I don't care what people say, they have a right to their opinion and to express it. I also have the same rights, and if I choose to burn someone's CD's or not listen to a radio station who plays their music, that is my right. I will choose whom I support and who I don't, and to those I don't...tough cookies. (oh, and if anyone chooses to block me, please let me know so I can talk about you behind your back![;)]) lol...it was a JOKE!
