The kid -- and he IS a Kid -- is headed for treatment (at an expensive facility) and LONG probation. Do you know anyone on probation? These guys/gals are not your nice uncle/aunt.

The parents are not even allowed to take the kid home. I don't think anybody's is getting their way here.

I do think a judge is responsibly trying to sort out an awful mess without knee jerk reactions causing worse messes.



Music, I see your point, and I know that the parents are ordered to foot the bill for treatment.

There is a slight problem with probation in Texas, and not based on wealth, but state funding and man power.

At present, Probation officers are overwhelmed in most metro areas. Although no official allegations have been made, and I expect they will be soon, it is alleged that probation officers are falsifying reports about offenders, cutting in office meetings real short and skipping required home visits.

If he gets a hard nosed by the book PO, then yeah, his life is not going to be a cake walk. But if he gets one of the ones that are just trying to keep up appearances because they are overwhelmed, he is going to skate.

Personally I would have liked to see prison time after the treatment center followed by a strict parole, since the punishment I deem appropriate for drunk drivers killing people is considered to not fit the crime.

Status: offline 		 Which is a reasonable position JLF... but that's a different argument to this being an example of the poor being disenfranchised by the  justice system.

The defense psychologist says that the kid has Affluenza, which means he thinks his wealth means he doesn't have to face consequences for his actions.

And as a result, he shouldn't face consequences for killing these kids.

Wow. Just wow.

Had I been this kid's attorney I would have produced "expert witnesses" that testified that his parents, his schools, his media, and his federal government had taught him since birth that personal responsibility was an outdated concept for losers. And truly, from mortgage loans to murder, form defenses as weak as "I didn't understand what I read. I never knew interest rates could go up" to "the Twinkies made me do it", isn't that exactly what we- not just his parents but we- have taught him?

If Kathleen Sebelius and Eric Holder and Malik Shabazz and James Winston do not even face charges, why shouldn't this little killer get off easy too?

Status: offline 		when they see nutsackers howling about how fiscally responsible they are, while driving the country to massive debt, W lying and treasonous with a big retirement, the nutsackers down in the house spewing imbecility without being shot on the spot,  they say, aw this kid didnt do to bad.

With all the nutsackers being given a pass because they are just plain stupid, why shouldnt the kid get off?

After all, we are even as we speak witnessing "the greatest heist in human history" and, to date, not a single person that I'm aware of has been charged or brought to trial much less convicted. There's ample evidence of a great many crimes which were committed. Finally, the poor don't have the money to hide behind the legal protection of a corporation.
