Senlata -> Gentlemen Master (12/11/2013 9:57:11 PM)

So I was posed with this question today and I was not quite sure how to answer it. What is a Gentlemen Master? Instantly I there were a few things that came to mind but I wanted to do some research before I gave my answer. I do not like giving misinformation. So I am coming to you all as a community. Can anyone tell me what a Gentlemen Master is?

The problem here is that definitions vary. First, what is a gentleman? Second, what is a master? You are going to get varied opinions on each one. Then you want to combine 2 terms which have varied definitions into one definition. Whatever works for you will do just fine. It's all a matter of opinion. Good luck with that.

MasterCaneman -> RE: Gentlemen Master (12/11/2013 10:15:07 PM)

Not entirely sure what you're referring to, but technically it would be "Gentleman Master'. I would imagine it would mean a dominant who wasn't a dick, in the simplest terms I can come up with. Holds doors, pays for shit, that kind of thing. Maybe even unlock the handcuffs from the headboard after the deed is done, perhaps? [;)]

It's not a widely used term, so I'm not sure that there IS an accepted definition - not in the sense you could say 'what is a rope bottom' or 'what is a pineapple'.

For me
Gentleman:
- Someone with excellent manners and courteous behaviours
- Someone with a bit of class, who doesn't stoop to petty things
- Someone who lives by a strong moral code
- Someone who holds old-fashioned values about interacting with woman (pulling out her chair at dinner, etc)
- A member of the aristocracy

Master:
- The owner of a slave
- Someone extremely skilled in a particular field (ie Master Craftsman, Master Musician)
- Someone with a Master's degree
- Old fashioned word for head of the house or teacher

So my guess would be a cello-playing aristocrat, hope that helps.

ResidentSadist -> RE: Gentlemen Master (12/12/2013 12:47:21 AM)

I describe myself as a "old school gentleman sadist and Master". I use the term gentleman to distinguish that I exercise the M/s aspects of my ownership politely through leadership with manners and respect for my property rather than with humiliating degradation. Don't get me wrong, I rule my roost with rank and order, but it is civil and elegant.

There are many types of M/s. They are equally effective and exciting for those that participate. It is just a matter of finding the type that fits you best. Using the term gentleman helps give a better view of your preferred style. I can be an evil humiliating bastard at times, but that isn't the core of what makes me tick or the mainstay of what I seek in a relationship.

crazyml -> RE: Gentlemen Master (12/12/2013 1:24:47 AM)

I think there'll be a pretty wide variation in definitions.

When someone uses the term I tend to think of someone with refined manners and excellent taste. Someone who comes across as strong but polite in public, but who can wield a cane with equal levels of refinement in private.

Blankpain -> RE: Gentlemen Master (12/12/2013 5:16:58 AM)

It is whatever you wish it to be.

MsDDom -> RE: Gentlemen Master (12/12/2013 7:00:26 AM)

While definitions do vary (interpretation and application), I must say that I do like the perspective that both AthenaSurrenders and ResidentSadist offered. I can agree with them both.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Gentlemen Master (12/12/2013 7:47:02 AM)

The word chivalry comes to mind. I'm highly attracted to men on either side of the kneel who understand the concept of chivalry.

Apocalypso -> RE: Gentlemen Master (12/12/2013 8:00:45 AM)

A master with a top hat and a swordcane.

This is the best explanation I can come up with.

I'd think he's a dom or master who's still a well mannered and chivalrous gentleman with his lady/girl/slave.

And I've always liked that concept and the contrasts it enables between when my girl is just meat for my general use, service and pleasure etc and when she's otherwise the most important person in my life. In D/s mode, it's just more..... menacing.

Think of some of those old WWII movies with the evil Gestapo officer who's immaculately presented and has the most impeccable manners while he's messing with his victim. Like a Hardy Kruger. The relatively recent "Inglorious Bastards" comes to mind - if you don't mind constantly pausing and even backing up the disc so you can read all the sub titles and absorb what's being said.

Or even "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (the one with Daniel Craig - ie, the only version I've seen) with your bona fide sociopath and his (apparently) well equipped modern torture chamber. But still a charming host.... [;)]

Yeah...., did I say "menacing"?

Focus.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: Gentlemen Master (12/12/2013 12:36:21 PM)

Ooooh, like Hannibal in the TV series (hopefully minus the murdering).

PeonForHer -> RE: Gentlemen Master (12/12/2013 12:38:16 PM)

I'm not sure it quite fits into the definition of 'gentlemanly' to eat a man's face, Athena. Personally, I would feel that to be somewhat uncouth.

I'm from Manchester, so you know, polite is relative.

[:D] Excellent.

kiwisub12 -> RE: Gentlemen Master (12/12/2013 1:29:11 PM)

lol
Never heard the term before, but I get an image of a man politely directing his sub/slave to the dungeon, and afterwards offering a hearty "thank you".

That would be the opposite of the masters whose idea of etiquette is to say"Bitch, get on the cross". [:D]

DarkLyDesires -> RE: Gentlemen Master (12/12/2013 6:08:48 PM)

I see the concept that I think you are asking about variously described as romantic dominant, gentleman dom, gentle dom and sometimes Daddy Doms consider themselves more on the gentleman side of the fence than the Daddy one....but as everyone else said, it's whatever a person wants it to mean. All I know is that the first time I found a reference to a "Romantic Dominant" something clicked for me and I knew I had finally found what I was looking for within the BDSM realm. It was a very confusing journey for me until then....

Lol, dunno about the "thank you's" afterwards but yeah, I'm not one to use derrogatory terms like "bitch/slut/whore" etc when I'm taking charge. Not my style.... I keep it polite, respectful and calm but she does learn very quickly just how much I loathe hearing the sound of my own voice having to repeat a command.

Same with swearing.... I swear like a wharfie in my everyday but NEVER during a scene. And it'll sting if she does cos this gentleman only does what he does with (or to) a lady. [:)]

Focus.
