Has anyone checked to see if the Texas legislature is brain dead too?

If this law is anything to go by there seems to be some evidence to suggest it is.

Since the woman was without oxygen long enough to be brain dead, wouldn't the fetus also be brain dead?

This question is far too rational for this discussion.

These events are taking place in Texas, where discussion of anything that might possibly be related to a woman's right to control her own fertility ceased to have any connection with reality a long time ago. We now witness the eerie spectacle of the State keeping a pregnant woman in a vegetative state on life support against her stated wishes, the entire situation brought about by folks who rail against big government and state intrusion into their lives. Does their hypocrisy know no end?

I'm undecided whether this whole sorry episode is better described as sordid or macabre.

What I find so frustrating about all of this is how something so
important can be determined and decided for you just by which state you happen to be in at the time it happened. Here's this man in Texas who wants to put an end to his and his wife's suffering, but the state he lives in won't let him. Then in California there's a family who wants to keep their 13 year old daughter alive after complications from a tonsillectomy......when the hospital wanted to remove the life support.p

I just think it's sad that if this man and his wife had been vacationing in California when this happened, he wouldn't be faced with this dilemma.

I see someone else posted. I had this up earlier but had to edit out something. The edited part is notated

quote:

And you've made your ignorance apparent, as well as your inability to comprehend the written word.

1. The hospital has not pulled the plug because it is against state law. It is not a difficult concept to understand. The state law prohibits removing life support for any reason as long as the fetus is still capable of being brought to term as a live birth. The mother is dead. The child is not. Therefore the hospital cannot disconnect the life support.

Learn to read.

2. What makes you think I give a fuck about your opinion of my political beliefs?

3. Just so you can display a little less of your own ignorance on your next response to me I'll fill you in on something thats no secret here. I'm actually pro-death. I believe in the sanctity of live only as long as the people those lives belong to care about them. Unlike you and just about everyone else of your ilk, I sleep just fine without having to make my beliefs sound more socially acceptable. If he has no love for the child, then he can set them on fire and serve them to the family pet for all I care.

4. I could care less about womans alleged wishes, unless those wishes are part of a living will. I don't really even care about the fathers medical expenses or the cost of raising the child if it lives. Every parent takes a risk that their child may have health problems. He was unlucky. I see no reason to concern myself with how he plans to raise his deformed child any more than I feel the need to concern myself with how every other family who has a child that suffers from any other physical or mental disability raises their children. His situation, if the child lives, is no different than millions of other parents whose children are not exactly normal.

EDITED

As an addendum:

Apparently the courts caved and heard the case. It appears the husbands desire to take the mother of life support and he is now going to be able to murder his unborn child.

Anyway, here's a link.
