Arturas -> A&E reverses itself on Phil Robertson and "Duck Dynasty". (12/27/2013 3:54:09 PM)

"Duck Dynasty" supporters have won their standoff with A&E: The network has reversed its suspension of star Phil Robertson for making anti-gay comments, and he will not miss a single episode of the upcoming season."
Tim Molloy, MSNBC, December 27, 2013.

Reversal on far left agendas is becoming a habit in America. Reversal on shutting down Duck Dynasty, reversal on the re-opening of abortion clinics previously ordered closed for a lack of nearby medical facilities, reversal of Obama's popularity, reversal of Obamacare requirements, what else? Obamacare itself? The Senate?

So a company enforcing a contract provision with an employee is a "far left agenda?" Would you care to try and make some sort of rational argument on that?

He may not. But of course I am happy to.

Of course the 'far left agenda' referenced had nothing to do with A&E, rather the GLAAD and those on the left that made this a national media circus.

Nice, deceptive spin, as usual.

A group condemning a bigoted statement is a "far left agenda?" What precisely is the agenda and how precisely does A&E exercising their contract rights over an employee have anything to do with GLAAD?

DaNewAgeViking -> RE: A&E reverses itself on Phil Robertson and "Duck Dynasty". (12/27/2013 6:46:29 PM)

It doesn't do any good to argue with them, Dom. Right and wrong have nothing to do with their 'agenda'. No sense in worrying about it.

Well, it's not a far right agenda. [:)]

This one was an overreach. A&E stepped on their dicks, and have figured it out now.

It's really just a company making a business decision. If they had held firm, the family would have bolted, and another station would have picked them up. A&E would have lost out on a massive revenue stream.

And, their decision is a great decision, if they think so. Now, the consumers and advertisers can react whatever way they want.

Its pretty clear that A & E conpletely played the LGBT Community. They got koudos for their quick action but never had any intention of actually following though.

servantforuse -> RE: A&E reverses itself on Phil Robertson and "Duck Dynasty". (12/27/2013 8:05:50 PM)

It's all about the money. Someone at a&e did the math. Now they can go pound sand ,

Of course they did! They have $ Principles$.

Maybe I am mistaken but it was A&E that first said his comments were against their way of thinking...They made this a circus by reversing their position...not glaad or the left have changed their minds.

Yup.
8 figures worth of free publicity, and not once was their name spelled incorrectly.

And you are. I didn't say that GLAAD or the left changed their mind - I said they made it a media circus.

Dec. 18: Robertson's comments are released online in an interview scheduled for the January 2014 issue of GQ. When asked what he considered sinful, Robertson replied, "Start with homosexual behavior" and then brought up bestiality, adultery, racism and prejudice against non-Christian religions.

Dec. 18: Within hours, GLAAD releases a statement that calls Robertson's remarks about homosexuality "a stain on A&E."

Dec. 18: A&E announces the indefinite suspension of Phil.

Dec. 18: "Duck Dynasty" fans respond with a petition to reinstate Phil and plans to boycott A&E. By the time the network relents, more than 250,000 sign.

Dec. 19: Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz claim that the controversy is trying to suppress Robertson's right to free speech.

Dec. 19: The Robertson family issues a statement in which they defend Phil and question the continuation of "Duck Dynasty" without him: "As a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm."

Dec. 20: Cracker Barrel announces that it will no longer sell "Duck Dynasty" items in its stores.

Dec. 20: PETA jumps in to the fray because they can and condemns the "slayers of ducks."

Dec. 21: Charlie Sheen randomly jumps into the scandal by using Twitter to demand an apology from the "shower dodger."

Dec. 22: Robertson responds publicly to the controversy, saying he loves all people but would not retract his earlier statements.

Dec. 22: Cracker Barrel reverses its position and resumes selling "Duck Dynasty" merchandise.

Dec. 24: Twitter blocks a website hosting a pro-Phil Robertson petition. The social-networking site later reversed this decision.

Dec. 24: Palin admits that she never actually read Robertson's interview before declaring her support for his freedom of speech.

Dec. 25: A&E runs its pre-scheduled Christmas "Duck Dynasty" marathon.

Dec. 26: All's quiet on the A&E front.

Dec. 26: Never one to stay away from a good controversy, Jesse Jackson compares Robertson to the driver when Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus.

Dec. 27: On an otherwise quiet Friday night amidst the holiday season, A&E makes the surprise announcement that Phil would be returning to "Duck Dynasty" with new episodes coming in the spring.

And that is my point...only those that change their minds have made it a circus... It just shows that the media is only worried about money as well as the advertisers. By changing their minds they made themselves look like wimps. If they had come out and said they respected his right to say what he did and agreed with him then I would have thought them wrong but would have respected their decision. GLAAD stated a position and stuck to it... No circus there.

Why are thy in business?
To make money.
Did Robertson call a press to make this announcement.... no
He was asked, what do you consider a sin.
You ever hear "if you don't want the answer don't ask the question" ?

We have laws that say you can't discriminate against certain peoples and groups and that's a good thing.
However there are no laws that say that you have to "like" certain peoples and groups and that's a good thing too.

As clear as mud bruv. It is absurd to think a TV company would take such a risk, but let that fuzzy thought keep you tingly at night.

EdBowie -> RE: A&E reverses itself on Phil Robertson and "Duck Dynasty". (12/28/2013 5:11:22 PM)

It might have been a bit less circus like, if GLAAD's characterization of what Robertson said, bore closer resemblance to his actual, in context words.
